I met some friends at 7:30 am and rode thirty miles on bikes. Now I am watching a replay of the first stage of the Tour de France, which started in Florence and ended in Rimini.

Grapefruit Fest at BuckleDown Brewing today.
Blood Orange Belt, a variant of their house IPA (they apparently dropped the "& Suspenders". A story of which I am unaware)

Great orange focus in this variant, for sure.

 

1) Fair State Side Pull (4.1%): A Czech Pale lager from Minnesota with flavors of pale bread malty, yeast, light salty notes. Light and clean.
versus
2) Utepils Keller Pils (5.2%): A Kellerbier from Minnesota with flavors of smooth bread malts and yeast. Moderately bitter. (Correctly matched the two blind)

Winner:
1) Fair State Side Pull: A couple of my favorite beer styles. First is Fair State Side Pull. A Czech Pale lager. Soft, bready, and smooth with subtle yet complex flavors. A favorite.
Next is Uteplis Keller Pils. Grainy, yeasty, and mildly sweet. Fantastic as well. Slightly prefer Side Pull, but both are fantastic.

Chick Coea's Piano Improvisation albums. Most people think of Keith Jarrett with solo piano jazz albums, but Chick beat him to the punch with these

 

Hop Butcher/Shred Shredded Cheese DIPA (Citra, Simcoe, Maui Nelson, HBC-586). Both breweries are top shelf when it comes to hops. Big white grape, Southern Hemi funkiness, bright passionfruit, limeade, some pink grapefruit, nectarine, navel orange, orange and grapefruit peel, earthy pine. Medium body that's bone dry and dangerously drinkable at 8.25%. Not your typical HB feel. It's soft, but not creamy and much more bright and crisp. I feel like Shred had a big part in this one. This one drinks like a hazy west coast and I'm all for it.

 

After push mowing my oldest daughter's huge yard, (sometimes I think she makes sure the yard for wherever she lives will be a challenge), and a shower, it's time to throw down a Pacifico. Then a nap will be in order. Cheers!

Hot and humid out here but a nice enough breeze makes it bearable. Taking my dad out to dinner for his birthday tonight. He turned 82 yesterday! Pregame Hamms. Cheers!

 

Alone in the Dark by Elusive Brewing. A solid black IPA.

 

Happy Saturday, BAs. We’re at Round Table Brewery in Garnerville, NY, for the first time. It’s in the former location of Industrial Arts Brewing. But the vibe is very different - more of a comfy, euro feel. I’m starting with Dr. Jay, a West Coast DIPA. Big sweet malt balanced by bitter pine sap and citrus. Great beer! Will buy cans. Cheers!

 

Negra is one of my top 3 cervezas to enjoy with Mexican fare. Bohemia Pilsner, Modelo Negra, and Victoria Vienna Lager.

This is very traditional. Not sure many beer drinkers would appreciate it but I liked it.
