My name is Rich /#rollingmyown. I'm new to these forums and joined up to gain some information on some vintage beer cans. As i have recently and happily been reunited with my own beer can collection from the 70' and 80' that I collected myself as a youth. My parents had put them in storage when I moved out of state in the mid 80's. Yes I'm that old. Lol. Any info and or knowledge will be appreciated as I had forgotten about my can collection. And I'm just working my way through it.

I remember this particular Drummonds Bros 16oz can because it is EMPTY and UNOPENED. No holes in bottom like we did to drain and or drink the brew to leave the tab in place on the top. Ect. This can has no holes I even did a water dunk test and no bubbles cane out. And it is bone dry empty inside just as it was when I added to my collection in the late 70's or early 80's. Was this can that is labeled manufactured in Kentucky possibly produced as a collector can or just a manufactured error with no beer inside. Ect. Thanks in advance and it's great to be a part of your forums!

Drummond Bros. was a creation of the Falls City Brewing Co. of Louisville - aimed at the "youth market" (or what the industry thought was the youth market) - "...the light, light taste of a Western-style beer" went one ad slogan, which meant "like Coors".

It didn't help Falls City survive - within a couple of years, the FCBC brands were sold to G. Heileman (well, all except Billy Beer, which originated at Falls City and was then licensed to a few other breweries around the country - Pearl, West End (aka F X Matt) and Cold Spring, IIRC.)

A sealed empty can might have been a promotion item, meant for display or a can manufacturer sample. Could be a filling line error, too, but those usually have some beer in them. Some brewers even ran off empties just for the hobbyists. They are not all that rare in the hobby.

I wound up with my wife's nephew's beer can collection from the 70s. I provided most of his collection to him, mostly from midwest breweries. I drank some mediocre beer for that project (Zodiac Malt Liquor by Peter Hand, anyone?). He eventually lost interest and his mother shipped (!) the whole thing to me many years ago. It sits in the attic. My son has a bar in his basement that could use them as decoration, but he resisted my suggestion. By the way, I didn't adhere to the convention of opening the cans from the bottom. I always ripped off the pull tabs.

Hi, Rich, and welcome to BA. Although you've already heard from the site's 'beer historians' the best place to discover information about breweraina is in the Breweraina forum under the Interests heading on the main menu. https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/forums/breweriana.42

Can collecting is not a major topic there but you can do a search to find old posts for any information that you might be looking for. Or start a thread asking for can collectors to come forward, and then get a conversation going.

You've found a site here that discusses everything about beer, and has databases of beers and places from around the world, so hang around and enjoy all of the other features that you'll find.
