    Just what i needed...more IPAs

Just saw a sign next to Stereoscope Coffee on Sunset and Laveta that said MONKISH ,LLC. Outdoor patio, parking and yellow beer.

6 to 8 months based on the people I called.

People that want this Reach out...I'll have a deep reach here.

The last brewery i would want in my hood, but hope it works out!

For what it's worth, the few times I've visited Monkish ive tried their belgian-ish offerings and have generally been impressed. It's been like 3-5 years since I was last there so I don't know if they even make any of that stuff anymore. But while you're there harvesting trade bait that might be something you'd enjoy. I remember a beer they called a Belgian blonde ale that was a wonderfully interesting beer.

I’m pretty sure when they first opened, they planed on being a Belgian style brewery. And with that, I was told that they had a sign on a wall in the brewery with the word “IPA’s” crossed out.

the 5 or so times I've visited they had a Belgian on tap, but I think i can say i don't really care for that style of beer ( shoot me) .

@RaulMondesi Looks like they stayed around long enough to become the villain!

I hope they workout in my hood. The owners are good friends with one of my close friends who an industry OG and he might work there .

Whoever reads this if I'm still here when they open I'll send you whatever you want at cost . Just reach out

I’m sure there’s still a lot of die hard monk fans here that will like the new location. I stop in their Torrance location once every 3-4 months on the way home from lax. Won’t be checking out the new Echo Park location. No need. I would like to see Enegren or HpB open a second location in Orange County. Yes when they first opened they were all about Belgium ales. If they didn’t take the hazy ipa route I don’t think they’d still be around. They would be the first brewery to introduce the hazy ipa to the west coast, thanks to Other Half. I don’t know if their hazy cans are still a hot trade bait. No need to trade these days when we have some of the best beers right here.

I go to the original Monkish location almost every weekend or every other weekend for lunch (off a food truck--yesterday it was AGL Craft Meats) and to stock up on cans. They still do Belgian-style beers, they even can them regularly. Since they expanded the seating here, it's been a super chill vibe. Also, they ALWAYS have cans to go now.

That stretch of Sunset is wild now. Was just at Lowboy a couple of weeks ago on a Friday and I can just imagine what that Monkish location is going to be like before Dodger games. Miss the days of Little Joy being a shithole. The Douglas kind of proved that if you make a bar welcoming around that neighborhood, you're set.

Ill stick to Bandini, Semi-Tropic, or Henry on that stretch. Prefer the quiet cocktail bars with the decnt beer selections over the craziness of that block of Sunset.

I used to be at Monty on 6th st before The Teragram even thought about opening.

Short Stop and Little Joy were always kindaa hip spots, but cuz they were shitty.
Gold Room with the $2 shot, beer and taco specials. Barragans , Fashion Of Echo and all that was a great time

This whole area makes me angry now:joy: Especially cuz Sunset Beer closed cuz of greedy developers. That spot was fuckin amazing and full of great people. Not that it will change anything at all ,but Nothing will make me support anything on that strip.

If it's opening next to Stereoscope Coffe that means my buddy lives one block away. I'm trying to make him let me move in but so far I can't convince him to let me be the little spoon and share a bed with him and his fiancé.

Man, what they did to Little Joy was a travesty. Heard they even let go of most if not all of the old staff ahead of the remodel.

just curious, why would this be the last brewery you would want in your hood? Monkish can open an outpost in my neck of the woods anytime they want :-)

Their original spot is only 15mins away from me but I would be THRILLED if they opened a spot down the street

I am welcoming them with open arms since i know people that will be running the place .

My main gripe is that they make mediocre beer (and Horrible BA Stouts )

I'm convinced you don't actually like beer at this point.

Speaking of their BA stouts… I opened a bottle of Twelve-ish last weekend. It was incredibly hot and not enjoyable, even after revisiting throughout the night between lagers. I put my glass in the fridge, went to bed, and picked it back up the next afternoon to see if it was salvageable before I dumped it…. Phenomenal, a totally different beer with complexity, body, and minimal burn. First time that’s happened

I’m just glad there’s going to be another craft beer place in Echo Park again. I love the Douglas, but it can sometimes get a bit boring.
