I don't think I've ever had Red Seal. Scrimshaw is just one of those well crafted, reliable pilsners. Kind of take it for granted frankly.

Red seal...man, I haven't seen that in Atlanta in years. Which is a shame.

...my initial exposure to North Coast beers was around Cascade, MD (military, working at Site-R, Pennsylvania)...anyway, lots of great craft beers developing around then (i.e., the early 90s)...Red Seal and Scrimshaw were readily available...the pale ale suited my tastes then as opposed to the pilsner (but they were close, as far as 'likeablity')...glad this is one brewery that is still making a go of things, especially with some national distribution...

Did you know the cheap trick singer owns a New Haven style pizza place in Chicago? Excellent place and they have their own brewery on site.

...thought about smoking spare ribs today, but too many factors came into play, so baking them instead...also, no Rolling Rock was reviewed in the past weekend's BA American adjunct lager tasting, so, thought it was time to revisit this beer...

    Extra pale

Clear, light gold body, dense, lively carbonation; thick head, white, creamy and frothy. Bright aroma; light cereal grain base with a sprightly sharp and mildly pungent hop aroma, noble hop-like, lightly floral with an earthy spiciness. Very nice taste; very muted malt and hop flavor yet pleasing to the palate; light cracker with a delicate hop bitterness; a bit of corn in the background. Soft, delicate mouthfeel; soft with a whispery dryness.

Geez, what a difference a few years and a different version of a beer can do with one's impressions. Perhaps it's the upper 90s temperature this early summer day that influences my perceptions, but this is one fine, easy drinking beer. Is this how I remember it back in the 70s and early 80s in Ohio...???...I can't really say, but compared to my impressions back in 2015, this is a very good beer for what it is. Balanced, very easy drinking, very approachable.

    --------------------------------------------------------

Original March 15th, 2015 ratings, scores and reviews:

    3.5 3.25 1.5 1.75 2.25; BA weighted overall score: 15.6%; rDev: -15.6%

Very pale, light straw colored body; fluffy, fizzy white head. Grassy, steely aroma. Light, dull hint of grains; very subdued hop bitterness. Light, crisp mouthfeel; watery.

A most forgettable ale. Where's the flavor and feel? There is so little depth and character that it's difficult to see why this beer is still made. One is better off with a Budweiser or a nice glass of ice water. Well, my wife goes for this...and I use to settle for this a few decades ago, but I see little reason to go for this beer if other macro American adjuncts are available...

    1) Venn Pils (5.6%): A Czech Pils from Minnesota with flavors of German Pilsner malt, bread, some lemon hop flavors with a dry yeast.
    versus
    2) Talking Waters Reality Czech (5.0%): A Czech Pils from Minnesota with flavors of pale malts, salted and buttery bread, and yeast. Finishes bitter. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

    Winner: Talking Waters Reality Czech:
Czech Pils battle from Minneosta. First is Venn Pils. A great Czech Pils that has dry, yeasty, lightly salted flavors with a nice bitterness.
Next is Talking Waters Reality Czech. Only my second try at this. Similar, but slightly more of those buttery flavors and just a hint of diacetyl that you get in Urqell. Both are fantastic, but this Talking Waters one is impressing me.

A little respite day on vacation, odd that it’s a Friday, but days ain’t nuthin’ but a thing on vacation.

Last of the Three Notch’d / Deschutes WCIPA collaboration. Had a mostly vegetarian lunch from a local farmer’s market. Walked past the owning farm a couple days back and stopped by today. They likely aren’t the producers of all the produce I saw, but the corn was so sweet and the tomatoes were… well, I hope and assume most of y’all have experienced a fresh tomato versus a grocery chain-offered one.

Watching Office Space and debating braving the humidity on the porch that yielded the pic above. Much cooler today, but still a tad stuffy.

    Obligatory, no?
