I was going to post tomorrow but then I saw @Whyteboar post so here goes…

    KBS Chocolate Espresso
    [IMG]

Poured from a twelve ounce bottle, the body is a dark brown with light mocha head. Good lacing.

Aroma of a semi-sweet chocolate and light coffee.

Taste follows nose but the espresso flavor is stronger without being too bitter. As the beer warmed, the flavor mellowed and a bit more chocolate was expressed. A more vibrant roasted bitter coffee flavor with a boozier hit would be my preference. In the alternative, more chocolate flavor would have been great. I don’t see a need for this stout, but perhaps it will hit the sweet spot for some folks.

Mouthfeel is good with medium carbonation.

A nice stout but I prefer the original Espresso variant to this beer and the standard KBS over all variants.

Social Project Brewing's Full Nelson Double Hazy IPA, 7.8% ABV; w/Nelson & Nelson Kief; 4.43 overall

Pours a very hazed honey color with a thumb of fluffy cream-colored head. Sheets of lacing & nice head retention

S: Tropical fruits, citrus & hint of vanilla & green melon

T: Tangerines, oranges, passion fruit, guava & nectarine, plus dryness & a touch of lactose up front. Lime breaks through along with pineapple as this beer warms up, grapefruit as well & a little less dryness as this beer warms up. Finishes dry with nectarine, oranges & pineapple

Medium body, fairly assertive carbonation that skews creamy as this beer warms up, great balance

Super drinkability on the money! No weak points on this beer, nose fades in the 4th quarter, a little

So you eat back bacon, wear a touke, and tell people to take off while drinking a 2-4 of it, eh?

Just the KBS matter. Merican' Bacon rules all, to include some German Varieties ( small sample size, so the door is still open...)

Postdoc - Drag Force pale ale

16oz can served in a big snifter. Canned on 05/21/24. My friend bought it at the brewery a couple days ago and brought it to me yesterday.

Pours a hazy whitish-amber, small head, settles to very little head, not much active carbonation. Smell is ripe tropical fruit and citrus rind, maybe a hint of grain in the background.

Taste is tropical fruit and citrus pith, interesting combination of the two. Juicy but not sweet. Lots of pith and fruit skin bitterness.

Mouthfeel is medium, maybe a bit heavier. Overall, actually quite nice and hefty, for a 5.1% beer.

good evening NBW folks! I ve got a big tasty barleywine from Barreled Souls in Saco Maine to share tonight. This is a Bombs Over Barley variant and was aged in Basil Hayden barrels for just over a year before bottling. Picked it up as part of bottle society stash. Beer registers 15% ABV. Probably my only beer tonight.

    onto my review:
Sampling a cellar temp 500 ml bottle poured into my snifter. beer was bottled on 12/19/2022 after aging in barrels for 12 months and 2 days.
The beer pours a rich mahogany color and doesnt allow much light to pass through my glass. A slightly frothy beige head of 1.5 cm foams up and fades to the thinnest of edge layers soon after the pour.
Aroma is brown sugar and figs with some raisin notes and a decent amount of bourbon. not boozy fusol and not sweet bourbon, more on the char side of the scent profile. No hop hit on the aroma.
First sip reveals a medium body with smooth texture and very fine tingly carbonation. There is a bit of a light coating on my palate after each sip, but not overly sticky feel or heaviness. I do get a little warming booze after the swallow and my tongue tingles after each sip too.
Flavor is similar to the nose. I get brown sugar and roasted bourbon notes with a little raisin as well. Again, no hop character shows through and the alcohol is only present on the previously mentioned warming after each swallow. No bite or peppery notes.
This is a pretty solid barrel aged barleywine. Im glad I have a few more bottles in the cellar.
    4.34 in the BA DB

Good Saturday evening, New Beer Sippers and commentators. My wife and I are in Columbia, Missouri, visiting our daughter and son-in-law who moved here last summer. Today, they took us to Jefferson City, the state capital, which is about 30 minutes south of Columbia. Although the town itself is small, the state capital is magnificent.
It's more impressive than the photo indicates and there is a very nice museum of state history within. The citizens of Missouri should be proud. I've been in New Jersey's capitol which is a dump in comparison.

After the tour of Jeff City we visited Last Flight Brewing Company, where I bought several bottles, including the bourbon barrel aged version of its Scotch Ale, Mac's Wee Heavy. I have to say this is really good!

2023 release. It pours a ruby-brown color with a long-lasting, creamy, light khaki-colored cap and thick film of lacing. The smell includes roasted malt, caramel, dark fruit, burnt peat, tobacco smoke, and subtle but noticeable bourbon. Wow, this is very good! The taste opens with sweet malt, caramel, apple, raisin, and bitter, charred peat. The balance is excellent and the taste is intense. The bourbon barrel influence is very noticeable. Although a year old it's still quite boozy. But the strength of the barrel compliments - and doesn't dominate - the other flavors. The mouth feel is plush and creamy with moderate carbonation, and it drinks big for the 8.9% ABV. Overall, it's very well-crafted. The whole exceeds the some of its parts.

We have a busy day planned for tomorrow, including 2 more breweries and I hope to get in another review. Cheers, NBW!

Double Nelson has 505 ratings on BA with an average score of 4.53, so I think we can safely assume I'm the issue, not the beer!
I know, I know. I've certainly tried loads of IPAs, but they are way down on my list of preferred styles. I never seem to get past the fact that they make me thirsty, which isn't necessarily what I'm looking for in a beer. I've long since accepted that I'm an outlier in the beer nerd community on this front!

Truth. That tiny can contained 1.16 ounces of pure ethanol and was a perfect nightcap.

Funnily enough the hotel only had paper cups.

So at dinner they served the Tripel in the de Garre glass so I asked the restaurant if I could buy the glass and they obliged. First time a hotel didn’t at least have a plastic cup.

Continuing my tour of the stovepipe juice bombs, Goose Island Big Juicy Beer Hug:
    Appearance: Clear gold, big head.

Smell: Very candy-like, hawaiian punch, pineapple, melon.

Taste: Starts pretty sweet but gets even sweeter. Continues with tropical flavors as advertised, low bitterness.

Overall: Continuing my slow tour of these high ABV-fruity-juicy-stovepipes, this one again doesn't really taste too beer-like. It's ok if you like sweet tropical fruit juices I suppose.

Poured a 500ml can into a pilsner glass. A two finger white head on a clear gold. Good head retention. The head diminishes to a layer. Some fine lacing.

    Strong bready malt smells.

Tastes of bready malts up front. A very mild dry hop finish.

Light body and carbonation. Smooth and crisp.

A fine example of the style. Well worth a try.
