1) BlackStack Wedding Season (8.0% no canning date): A NEIPA from Minnesota with Citra, Cascade, & Phantasm for flavors of orange juice, pineapple, and mango juice.
versus
2) BlackStack More Than Just A Phase (8.3% no canning date): A NIPEA from Minnesota with Mosaic, New Zealand Nectaron & experimental HBC 1019 for flavors of juicy pineapple, mango, berries, grape with a smooth stonefruit and mango creamy finish. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

Winner: BlackStack Wedding Season
BlackStack IPA Battle. First is Wedding Season, a collab with Weldwerks in Colorado. I didn't enjoy this as much last year, but this was is extremely juicy with pineapple and mango. Excellent stuff here.
Next is More Than Just A Phase, a collab with Phase Three, one of my favorite breweries in Chicago. This has some great hop flavors as well, but a bit sweeter.
No canning dates and may be some age bias as Wedding Season is a month or two more fresh. It would be interesting to compare the two when they were more fresh because I think this Phase Three collab is a banger as well.

I went outside to do a bike ride in 90° F, 80% humidity in a swamp. Highlights of the ride: watched some buzzards tearing into an armadillo, stopped and lectured a pit bull that runs loose on our route.

Hop Butcher Two-Flat (5.75% canned 5/1/24): A NEPA from Chicago with Amarillo, Simcoe and Idaho 7 for flavors of sweet floral, bright citrus, and pine notes.

Nice orange, nectarine, and light pine notes. That Simcoe and Amarillo coming through here. These guys always know how to sneak an eye in their can art. A simple and nice pale ale from Hop Butcher.

 

This has been a hell of a week, I've been straight out everyday - good thing is - that makes the day fly by. So finally relaxing with a Second Fiddle.

That place looks amazing. The idea to turn a beautiful church into a brewery seems iconic. Iowa has some great taphouses and breweries. Maybe I missed it somewhere, but what brings you through the midwest ...(Sheboygan)? Yes, the Mississippi flooding has been disasterous, similar to last year. Be sure to visit Toppling Goliath if you can swing a visit up to Decorah, otherwise Chicago has plenty of good stops.
