Side Project Brewing (2024)

Just for old times sake, I may go stand outside Perennial for a while then sprint to my truck and race to Side Project to pick my BVC bottles up.

 

Man I would have loved to try the base without adjuncts. AB barrel plus rye usually makes a killer ba stout on its own.

Been kinda quiet on the LC party front. I looked back and I think it was available for signup mid June last year and held early Aug. Anyone have any insights as to approximate dates we might be looking at? Only my second year so not sure if this move around a lot as far as dates. I looked back at the '24 membership email and it did mention LC party. I need to plan a trip to STL before too long to get my beer.

 

That day was surreal. I was one of the few that stayed at Perennial and went through the line a couple of times for BAA. I think there were only like 5 of us that went inside to have some pours after they opened (though many more people came back later).

Funny looking back on that and how different things are now

 

speaking of rye barrels in BVC is it about time for rye BBT 24?

 

I remember when Rye BBT wasn’t going to be annual

that better have been a one-time deal on the 375...

 

I may be misremembering but I think they just had to skip a year as they didn’t have enough stock after the first batch yet to make it annually.

 

Last year was the first party since 2019, and 18/19 were in May.

 

Lucked into a splash of pH1 today, and it was so good that now I have to try and trade for one. Damn it.

Also tried Calamansi for the first time. It is way, way tropical. Like some kind of sno-cone flavor. I could move through a bottle pretty quickly, and I'm not a coconut fan.

 

i had a draft pour of calamansi yesterday at the brewery. meant to post a pic but 100% agree - that base beer (brett pale) is so funky and mildly, to almost not even, sour. perfect base for that combination of coconut, vanilla and limes. it was like a tropical tiki cocktail but like way less alcohol to it. i enjoyed it. cheers!

 

....brb floating some light rum in a pour of Calamansi.

 

that might work! over ice of course and i would suggest the frilly umbrella stirrers

 

Yeah, a half measure of white rum added to this does not suck at all, but it definitely has to be over ice.

Or maybe poured into one of those Ninja slushy machines I keep seeing....

 

ph1 is unreal. One of the best beers I’ve ever had.

 

Calamansi really did not feel like a Side Project beer at all but I don't mean that in a bad way.

Just a completely unique flavor for them and I really really liked it. I plan to drink a lot of that

 

Is public BVC sale not a package?

 

“This coming Wednesday, July 31st at 10am CT packages of BVC will be released in our Online Shop. BVC is our collaboration with our friends @CycleBrewing! We wrote a recipe with 11 malts and 2 yeast strains and then aged it in Brandy and Rye barrels for 22 months before finishing it on Indonesian and Madagascar Vanilla Beans and fresh Cinnamon.

Pickups will begin on Thursday, August 1st (Please note all locations will be closed on Wednesday, July 31st for a staff outing!)”
