    Eggenberg w/ Schilling - Maibock

    I see this is the #1 rated Maibock here. I don't know how old this is (maybe 1 year) but it wasn't my cup of tea.

    Here is one of my favorite Maibocks, from Enegren Brewing

    Malty and slightly fruity aroma with pineapple in the nose. Frothy and sprightly on the tongue. Clean flavors, spicy, and tangy. Moderately sweet, as usual with many of this style, but flavorful and fruity. One of the better Maibocks that I've tasted. And another delight from Enegren.

    An amazing doppelbock from 2020 (southern Germany). This one has aged really nicely. Dark bread, spice, biscuits, some toffee, figs, and plums.

    Interesting observation -- this week I bought some more UC Old Maibock because I liked it so much. Trying one now and it's already falling off -- has that earthy, toffee-like oxidized flavor starting to appear. Canned in April.

    Oh well, not crazy gone like some Oktos I've laid down for a year or two (yet), so I'll probably be able to stomach 7 more cans. :wink:

    Enjoying Bock Party from Olde Mecklenburg in Charlotte, packaged 5-13. This is very nice, getting biscuit and caramel along with some honey with Noble Hops bringing black pepper spiciness. Glad i stumbled into this at my local grocer!

    My wife and I spent some pleasant days in Bad Krozingen and Freiburg several years ago. Free regional transport and a day pass into the spa were included with the tourist tax. We were able to try Wodan, which we picked up at LIDL. After a short hike in the Black Forest hills overlooking the city, we took a breather at Feierling's urban beer garden (Ganter subsidiary). For dinner we walked over to Martinsbrau ( a solid brewpub). A nice recent review of the area is at:

    Nice! I lived in Freiburg for a year and absolutely loved hiking up to the Black Forest and stopping by to grab a beer or glass of wine on the way back. We lived in Vauban on the edge of the forest. Martinsbrau is definitely solid. Ganter has slipped a little bit (changed some of their labels to boring ones), but there are now some other great options in the city. Cheers!

    My spouse, not German, was born in the city and spent her first few years there. We located the house the family lived in, as well as the rural spot in the hills her older brother fished in the late 40s.

    Revivor, a 10.6% barrel aged doppelbock by Highland Park. Excellent beer. Notes later in NBw.

    I enjoyed a 6.5% Doppelbock called BAHHH-CK from Culture Brewing in the beach cities north of San Diego.

    Aromatic grainy nose. Rich and malty with a delicious sweet and caramel taste. That is followed by a scratch of hoppy bitterness, but just enough to go with the burnt sugar aftertaste. Toffee on the lips and coffee on the back of the tongue. Overall this is one of the better Bock-style brews and reminds me why I used to always try anything new from Culture. From the 32 oz crowler can purchased at the Encinitas tasting room.
