Dates are set for Best of Craft's FH competitions. If anyone will be in Bend Sept 20/21 or Yakima Oct 12/13, DM me.

A truck load of Hobos retreated up to Artists Point to drink a few beers in the altitude and sunshine on Sunday. Discussion was had on making a trip over to the Yakima area the week before the FH fest. Dan and Chris did that last year, and there were more FH beers than could be reasonable consumed, and none of the headaches of the fest.

I’m on the other side of the country and admittedly won’t be able to make it over there this fall, but can you vets let me know what is the sweet spot to plan a week long trip to the PNW to best take advantage of the fresh hop season? This is a priority for me, I just can’t do it in 2024. Thanks in advance for your help.

    I would say mid-September through mid-October but there’s a 50% chance I’m wrong.

What I would do is look at this thread and figure out when the chatter hits critical mass. There’s probably a period of a few weeks when you’ll see the most numerous posts about all the fresh hop beers popping up all over the Northwest. That thread started in July and ran through November but I’d bet most posts were during a more concentrated period somewhere in the middle.

Out of curiosity, when they say that a GA ticket gets you 4 drink tokens, are those full-sized beers or sample pours?

I believe they have gone to 8oz pours. You used to have the choice of 8oz for one ticket or 16oz for 2. And, a lot of breweries definitions of 8oz tended to be liberal.

It varies year-to-year, but mid-September is mostly the peak. The fact that Yakima (where the hops are grown) has their FH fest the last week of September/first of October, and it's after the harvest is complete, should tell you enough.

I think @BBThunderbolt's right. I haven't been since they moved to the new location, last time I went they gave me a shaker pint and it was the server's discretion how much a token got you. I had a rough morning.

They used to give you a shaker, and it had a line for 8oz. Nobody much seemed to care about accuracy.

Hope you have a great time. I've heard so many varying stories about the event over the years (some good, some not so good), I've always put off going. Am very interested to hear your impression this year.

No airfare, but I'll buy you a ticket if you fly out! I'll even drive you from SeaTac and back!

Seems like the Mrs and I booked our trip to the PacNW at the perfect time. Flying in end of Sept and staying 10 nights. Can’t wait to get back to the WCIPAs I love and away from all the hazies here in New England.

… and fresh hop pale ales. It can be a fine line between the two to be sure, but in my experience the fresh hop beers I’ve most enjoyed have often been designated by their brewers as pale ales, not IPAs. Enjoy your visit!

Sounds like you'll probably be around for the Hood River fresh hop fest. It's on the 5th of October.

Reading this thread and then dropping off my kids for dance in downtown Beaverton clicked a thought in my brain..... Are we SOL for FH Eliot this year ?

Oh I’m going to try any fresh hop pale ale/IPA I see at a brewery. No worries there. I tend to prefer a great APA to a great IPA anyways. Too bad not many breweries care to take the time to make APAs anymore (I understand why, but still). Cheers!

That's what I'm expecting, although I would love to be proven wrong.
