Once again I find myself in the position of starting what is arguably my favorite thread on the site- So please join me in this weekly romp through what new to you beers you are enjoying. Or not as the case may be.
Please describe how it tastes and looks and smells (if you can, I still cannot) and, well, what you think about it.
My entry is one that I have had the BA version many times but never the base version.
Poured stout black with a 1” light brown head. The flavor is much smoother than I expected, molasses and cacao with a little mellow coffee tossed in. Almost no hops bitterness.
The feel is lightly viscous, very appropriate for the style.
OA, it’s really quite good, I plan on having it in my cellar pretty much always now. Cheers!

Well good evening there @Whyteboar I will join you on this lovely Friday evening. This weekend will be an early one and done NBW for me this weekend…just wrapped up a magical summer returning to the camp I used to work at because now both our kids are old enough to go finally. What special 8 weeks we lived in, can’t wait till next year. The early on and done NBW because we are off to our yearly trip to Vermont very early Monday AM so we got a busy weekend ahead of prepping and packing. Hoping to do my NBW drinking while on vacation and sharing for the next weekend.

Today’s picture goes out to @HoppingMadMonk, beer courtesy of my brother in law from a local brewery about 30 minutes away in Hammonton.

Three 3’s - Pitter Patter (German Pilsner 5.5%)

Pours light straw, cloudy but see-through, decent white film persists.

Nose has some pungent honey sweetness; light straw and cracker, touch of herbal character.

The taste is quite nice; balanced amount of light cracker, touch of grain character, hops carry green earthy notes.

Body is medium-light; little full and hefty, some lingering malt on the tongue, light to moderate bitterness.

Overall an average German pils, nothing offensive, but it is missing that crisp dry pop on the finish. I wouldn’t turn this down ever but also probably wouldn’t buy a pack, grateful I got to try courtesy of family.

    -----------------------------

Looking forward to some good beers, cool weather, and lots of green mountains this coming week. Be well everyone, cheers and I’m looking forward to reading all your posts this weekend.

Thank you Craig for kicking off the weekend @Whyteboar , and also for coordinating our visit this week in Grand Rapids! Enjoyed my visit and time spent with you and Garth. Hop you enjoy your trip to Vermont @jonphisher and hope you find great beers to share next weekend.

I'm dedicating this weekend to my in person trade with David @DoctorZombies . The first is an unfiltered NEIPA from a brewery which is also new to me brewed near Miami.

Full review linked above. Overall, this is a good NEIPA which held up well for at least a month or two (undated can) with enough bitterness to contain any sweet excesses, at least based on my sweet sensitive palate. Thank you David, have a collaboration from you to share tomorrow.

Thanks to @Whyteboar for kicking things off. I added a "#" to the title of the thread, which then makes it appear on the home page. I'm starting the weekend off with Mega Devil's Teeth Banana Stand from Modern Times. An imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels with cocoa nibs and banana added. 14.8% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a very thick black with almost no head. The nose is fantastic. Charred wood, toffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, banana, marshmallow, and some roasted malts. Very interesting and smooth.

The taste follows the nose. Banana, bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, molasses, walnuts, almonds, and a bit of maple syrup. The roasted malts from the nose really doesn't make an appearance on the taste. It's nutty and full of chocolate and banana, and quite sweet.

Thick mouthfeel with a nutty banana aftertaste. Overall, a really nice take on the style.

It is, unfortunately, our last night in Liberty, ME. There isn't a lot here, but there is nowhere that I feel more at peace with myself and the world. And maybe that's why - no TV, just about as unplugged as we can be. Ultimate in quiet if you filter out the loons and owls - I haven't slept so well in months.

We did visit Marshall Wharf and purchased two flights. All of the eight beers were average or slightly above, but the setting right on the harbor was fantastic. The food was limited but very good and our server was outstanding. It's a destination kind of place - cool vibe, some fancy yachts to look at, blend of tourists and regulars.

We agreed to make the trek to Barreled Souls for their Barleywine is Life event. I am sure we will be picking up some tasty treats for cold winter nights to come! There's a little trepidation...I'm gonna wanna try some of those big ABV beers and we have two hours more on the road after almost two hours to get there. It's weird, but it is not that far from the over the river snd through the woods route we normally take home from here.

I will hopefully have a new to me Lake St. George beer to share with all ya'll tomorrow night. Until then, carry on!

Poured from a 16 ounce can dated 7-16-24 into a tulip glass at 48 degrees.

Look- Straw, very hazy, sudsy white head, above average head retention and lacing.

Smell- Tangerine, pith, melon, between medium and high strength of scent.

Taste- Tangerine, pith, orange honeydew, high strength of flavor.

Feel- Medium body, average carbonation, moderate bitterness, mild sweetness, mildly prickly, moderately creamy, mildly dry finish.

Overall- Straw and translucent with above average head retention and lacing. Bouquet was tangerine with some pith and orange honeydew. The flavor matched the nose, but was even more vivid. Medium body with a slightly dry finish that kept me wanting another sip and no astringency that is so often found in NEIPA’s. Overall this was a very orange forward beer that delivered an excellent drinking experience.

Doing my Friday night thang, back-to-back

But first a plug; we still have one slot in our BA Fantasy Football League. Contact the Commish
@brutalfarce or me for details or to jump all in.

Cheers to @snaotheus for this Single Hill 2023 Overstory BA Imperial Stout; 11.6% ABV; 3.99 overall

    2023 can

Pours an effervescent chestnut with a pinky of tan head. Head falls away quickly, some head retention & lacing

S: Molasses & barrel, leafy hops, figs & raisins, nose fades a bit as this beer warms up

T: Follows the nose, some cocoa & vanilla as well; barrel is very front & center up front. More hammer down booze & barrel, a little cinnamon, cola & cocoa as this beer warms up, some leafy hops, a kiss of vanilla & coffee as well, dryness of course. Finishes with plenty of barrel, cola & coffee notes & a little vanilla. Almost pulled a 4.75

MF: Medium body, slight carbonation, pretty warming, body thins out once warmed up

Love the flavor, found other parts of this beer not measuring up as well. Still a lovely BA Imperial Stout

    Good weekend NBW!

As I often say when I’m posting here, I have to admit I rarely use this fine thread. Often drink the same beers, though good but this one was a purchase at the proper beer store and got me curious:

    Kappitel Watou Blond…

330ml bottle poured into a Westmalle glass.

Pours a cloudy golden color with a big top of white head that fades slowly.

Aroma is of oranges, lemon, bread, and spices.

The taste is dry and fruity at the start with citric notes and some slight sourness.

Mouthfeel is smooth and soft with a light body.

Overall this is a good Blonde Belgian but doesn’t tickle my fancy as much as others of the style, and there are hundreds more in Belgium alone.

    Duvel Tripel Hop Citra
    [IMG]

Appearance: Clear yellow with a huge head.

Smell: Hint of sweat socks, a little sage, light Belgian yeast note.

Taste: Yeasty to start, then a little lemon and really dry in the finish. The dry hopping seems to cover up most of the “Belgian” character. Not particularly bitter but the dryness stands out.

Overall: The tripel hop Citra is interesting, the hops basically overwhelm the rest of the beer. Not bad but not too exciting either. At least I got a new Duvel glass from the mix pack!

Held up to the light this is a bright, natural yellow. Out of the direct light it's more of an apple juice color. A finger of fizzy white head that receded to a thin, persistent cap.

Aroma has notes of green apple, lemongrass and orange with a good amount of tart notes.

Taste is different than I expected. Not tart at all, with earthy notes taking the lead supported by flavors I'd equate to mushrooms and what I expect bark tastes like. Definitely some wine like qualities. Very light and easy drinking.

Just back from a walk with the dogs. It's starting to get hot here, so I really wanted something to quench my thirst. I found it in this beer, Smoked Helles from von Trapp Brewing, in collaboration with Live Oak Brewing.
The beer is a clear gold color with a small white head that dissipates quickly. No lace.
Aroma is subtle smoke, sweet malt, and grassy hops.
Very nice taste. Smoke still subtle, but integrates well with some caramel and some late bitterness.
    Light-bodied, very drinkable.

Good morning/day BAs! My new to me breakfast beer comes courtesy of none other than @Whyteboar - “Ophidia” an imperial stout by Brew Detroit Brewery:

Canned 11/17/23. Poured at 57°. One finger of dark tan mixed bubbles; ok cap retention; heavy ring and some soapy lace; black with ruby edges; thin legs on swirl. Roast malt nose. Bitter roast malt; bittersweet dark chocolate; roasted coffee beans. Light body; dry feel; light carbonation; no warmth from 9.5% abv. Overall, a solid impy stout that drinks more like a porter; long bitter roast linger.

Pours a really nice copper color with an off-white head. Nice looking beer, without standing out positively or negatively in any meaningful way.

Aroma is relatively nondescript. Some fruity esters. No hops, and light malts.

Taste is much more interesting than the nose. Sweet, caramel like malts that don't go anywhere near cloying. Floral and light esters.

    Overall, tasty beer.

One of my favorite Houston breweries has come out with a new Saison.

True Anomaly Brewing. They have been in the process of moving their brewery and taproom to another, bigger location. So they haven't really been able to make a lot of their Foder aged Saison's lately. Glad to see some more things coming out, and looking forward to what the new brewery will entail.

    Anyway...

Rosette Wild Saison, Foder aged, bottle condition Saison with Scarlet Tea.

Pours a slightly hazy orange color. A dense white head forms with excellent retention and rings of lace left behind.
Very aromatic. With toasted malts, that become more like baked bread as this warms. That herbal, floral tea is a big component. Always in balance with the malt and orange rind, fruity, ester, musty yeast character. Lots going on here, and really nice.
Taste wise, follows the nose. With toasted malts. baked bread, tea and fruity flavors. Orange, citrus, herbal, floral, spicy, hibiscus flavors as well. There is a musty yeast character and a tartness that slowly builds and lingers on. The tartness becomes full on sourness.
A medium body with effervescent carbonation. There is a puckering astringency from the tartness/sourness. Which all leads to a very well done example of a sour Saison that I can come back to.

At first, I was praising the balance here, as there is tons going on. Though the sourness builds and lingers a little to much for me in that department. It is still a well done example of a "Wild Saison" but just a light detraction keeps this from exceptional. As is, just very good anyway.

Overall score is 4.08, easy A-

Making headway on this hilarious satire by Joseph Heller, what else would you expect ha. Also listening to the Brother Thelonious Quintet, which was a student band from the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz. Sponsored by North Coast, of course. I'll probably have some Brother Thelonious later on today :sunglasses: which I know @beergoot is a fan of that paring as well:beers:

Helen Sung was a part of the Brother Thelonious Quintet, she is a great piano player.
