A shout out to @stevoj for inspiring me on his "Breweries that you've had more than 100 different beers" thread and thought this may be interesting stats to see if we sort our beer ratings by "You" so your highest rated beers are at the top, look over just page 1 (top 50 beers), what years you reviewed /rated beers had the most high ratings. So here are mine (These have 36 are perfect 5's....remaining 14 drop to 4.94). Also I previously had a few in 2010 and 2011 that would have been here but I rerated and dropped them down some): 2010 - 0 2011 - 0 2012 - 1 2013 - 3 2014 - 5 2015 - 4 2016 - 4 2017 - 13 (Seems to be when NEIPAs blew up) 2018 - 7 2019 - 5 2020- 2 2021- 1 2022- 3 2023 - 2 2024 - 0
Great thread! Here's mine: 2011 - 7 2012 - 7 2013 - 0 ( moved from Germany to US) 2014 - 1 2015 - 14 (my palate is now tuned to IPAs) 2016 - 2 2017 - 0 2018 - 2 2019 - 0 2020- 2 2021- 6 2022- 4 2023 - 5 2024 - 0 Only 4 of these are 5's . #50 is a 4.65. I lived very close to the Belgian border and has several trips to Brussels, up until 2013. Here in Idaho my current circle of friends were into trading and have very deep cellars.
Yes I also was into trading and bottle shares around 2017 as well and that’s also probably why there is a spike at that particular time for myself.
These stat-centric threads are irresistibly nerdy. I'm representing all beers I've rated 4.76 and up: 2011 - 2 2012 - 9 (Moved to FL which at the time had wider distribution reach than DE where I moved from and I started trading) 2013 - 7 2014 - 3 2015 - 9 (Moved to Asheville the year prior and started working for one of the best beer shops in town) 2016 - 3 2017 - 0 (Stopped reviewing beers) 2018 - 2020 - 0 2021 - 1 2022 - 2 2023 - 0 If I have a beer that blows me away, I will rate it and give it a quick review. So 2021 was Untitled Art Chocolate Macaroon Imp Stout. 2022 was Equilibrium/Charlestowne Fermentory Moongazer and Burial And You Know Not Your Own Boundary. Both were insanely delicious IPAs and unfortunately both seem to have been one-offs, but Goddamn I hope they produce something close to those again some day.
For the recent years, 2022 I had 3 perfect “5” scores that included an Imperial Stout and a Helles Lager (both on a visit to Hill Farmstead) and a Wild ale from Trillium. 2023 perfect 5’s included a saison from Suarez, and an American IPA from The Answer. 5 different beer styles and none local to me.
Only 13 out of the 50 I was able to acquire locally at a retail store in my area (only 2 were local brewers within an hour drive), Everything else was on travel or trades.
Guess I'm "that guy", but I haven't given a beer a perfect "5" just yet. Top scores by year: 2015 - 4.68 2016 - 4.68 2017 - 4.78 2018 - 4.74 2019 - 4.76 2020 - 4.61 2021 - 4.89 2022 - 4.96 2023 - 4.89 2024 - 4.71 (so far) Side Project's Double Barrel Derivation Stagg Jr. (2022) is my favorite beer ever. In hindsight, probably should've given it a '5' but those flat imperial stouts don't look like a '5' to me.
Number of 4.75 rated beers (highest rating I give) 2013: 5 2014: 9 2015: 5 2016: 4 2017: 6 2018: 8 2019: 7 2020: 5 2021: 6 2022: 3 2023: 2 2024: 2 My hypothesis was recent years would be lower due to less beer consumed and having had most of the classic by now. Numbers back it up, but closer than I thought. Craft beer is dead, long live craft beer!
My top 50 by year: 2015 3 2016 3 2017 2 2018 7 2019 12 2020 4 2021 7 2022 2 2023 5 2024 5 The 2018-2019 spike is from moving to TX and working through the fantastic European import section at Central Market
Top 50 ratings by year 2015 - 0 2016 - 4 (1x 5 rating) 2017 - 4 (2x 5 ratings) 2018 - 10 (4x 5 ratings) 2019 - 14 (6x 5 ratings) 2020 - 15 (5x 5 ratings) 2021 - 1 2022 - 0 2023 - 1 2024 - 1
