I was as hill farmstead Columbus Day weekend and as I had posted in another thread, it was terrible. Avoid that weekend at least.

Perrsonal sweet spot has been September before peak leaf season. Weather still usually fantastic and there's a short 2-3 week lull between Labor Day and peak leaves.

Not at all trying to hijack this thread but any northern Vermonters travel to Quebec City at all? Lady and her mom are up there all week and I made a post in the Canada section but it looks like that whole group is crickets. Figure someone up north may visit time to time and be able to recommend breweries/bars.

Also I agree that just before peak leaf season is the best time to go.

If you're trying to avoid crowds in VT (not that its usually that crowded), the best time to come is during the tweener seasons - late March/April (after ski season, before spring) & late October/November (after leaf peepers leave, before ski season starts). You'll miss out on the most beautiful times of year in VT, but you also won't be dealing with crowds. In general, avoid holiday weekends and school vacation weeks.

Anyone know the status on the new yellow barn project in Hardwick? Going up to VT late august and was hoping to make that a stop between hill farmstead and my room in Stowe. They’re planning some local vendors including jasper hill which should be dope. I tried an email I found online but no response.

Projected completion "late 2024", so don't expect it to be open for business until Q1 of 2025 at the earliest

I drive past the site multiple times a week. They're making good progress, but late 2024 makes sense. There's two buildings on the site - the yellow barn and then a giant warehouse. I wonder if the barn will open first. Gotta think they want to capitalize on summer/early fall tourism if they can.

yeah that’s what I was hoping. That if the new building is not complete that they will have the yellow barn part open at least.

Even if the yellow barn isn't open yet, you'll be able to satisfy all your cheese needs by stopping at Willey's in Greensboro or Buffalo Mountain Market in Hardwick. They have the best selections of Jasper Hill in the area. If you really need a stop between HF and Stowe, grab some cheese at one of those spots and take it to the Fisher Covered bridge on 15 in Wolcott.

Red Barn has some nice beer that flies under the radar. Not HF but if you're nearby...

even though i've swapped back to asheville (which I'm going to wing more than I'm going to plan) for next weekend I appreciate the additional comments and I am keeping them in mind for when I finally do VT... that being said, I know HF has its own thread but I wonder if a Vermont (20xx) thread might be useful considering all the additional stuff here. I like this blew up as much as it did but I think its because I kept asking questions as well. *shrug*

Reviving this thread for 1 question. Vermont Brewers Festival is end of July, and I may have the opportunity to attend the Friday night session. Is it worth it?

I'm going to be driving through Vermont this weekend. I remember seeing posts a while ago that Prohibition Pig and Doc Ponds had an incredible onsite bourbon list that included BTAC for fairly reasonable prices. Has anyone been there recently and can confirm? It's a bit out of the way so I was hoping to confirm ahead of time if at all possible. Thanks very much for any help.

I was at pro pig a couple weeks ago and while they had some rare bourbon, it was very expensive. I’ve never noticed the whiskey at doc ponds but I’m usually there for lunch. Blackback pub had some nice whiskeys for reasonable prices last I was there, but not sure about BTAC.

For anyone wondering, the Yellow Barn in Hardwick was open when I drove by today. Not sure if it’s anything more than Cabot at this point though. If I get a chance to stop this week, I’ll report back.

Looks like you may get the latest release of 20th Anniversary Heady Topper too, ready for this weekend. Just missed it but I was happy with my Kiss of Dank and Focal Banger four packs. If you can get one pour I'd suggest Hand Pulled Heady Topper...I'll quote my post this past weekend here for ya...

Will you be discussing this beer in an upcoming NBW thread? It would be interesting what "dank" means for this brand.
Spoiler alert: I will be discussing my Heady Topper from the beer engine in next weekend's NBW thread.

    Cheers!

You know it Jack!:beers: Especially with that recent thread discussing said topic, perfect timing for that beer to be available.

Looking forward to reading your hand pulled heady experience as well.

Not to get your hopes up or anything. But it's the best beer I've ever had.
