@HouseofWortship raises a fair question in terms of what did Averie brew during whatever time period this nomination covers. Has she been brewing beyond several publicized collaboration offerings since Half Acre sold off her brewing location IIRC in late 2021?

I hope that at some point she can open a brewery.

 

If your local crack dealer gave you some samples and disappeared you’d be pretty disappointed. They make beers I look forward to having and I wish they’d hurry up and start brewing again. But seriously, has she been tenant brewing or doing collabs somewhere in the past year? I don’t know. Just odd how you get nominated for a brewing award without brewing.

 

I read the criteria, including the part you bolded, prior to my post. Perhaps Vinepair should not have ignored the "immense talent within the community" currently brewing beer.

The open question remains has Averie brewed anything commercially available beyond a few collaborations over the past two plus years. Without any further evidence, the answer appears to be no. All I've learned in this exchange is it's best to skip over Vinepair links.

She has been working on opening a brewery the past few years, which is admirable. Still believe reasonable people would question why this nomination now, versus say in 2020-2021, or perhaps after she returns to brewing beer on a regular basis, wherever and whenever that may be.

I think the point he and @ChicagoJ are making is if she didn’t brew last year, when did she last brew, and how recently does someone have to have brewed to be considered. Just as an example, what about 3 Chiefs in California? Should the brewer there be considered? It’s been a couple years I think. Seems equitable, right? Where is the distinction.

I am often of the opinion that a hard and fast cutoff without wiggle room is a bit silly. But, if you don’t even state the criteria, then what is the sandbox you’re even playing in?

Maybe you would if they had been brewing the last 2 or 3 years, which was the point I was making.

From everything I read, Avery makes amazing beers, and I’d love to try one someday. And, indeed it is great that she is getting praise. I’m just saying that I think the questions raised about when she last brewed is quite relevant.

Interesting 3 part story about KT’s progress in Santa Fe. I still don’t know why the name of the defunct equipment manufacturer is so closely guarded. Would seem like any reputable amateur journalist would put that information in to (1) verify and (2) make sure no one else gets taken advantage of by the same people.
