There was a bit of discussion about hops and hop harvesting in the ongoing thread: “How Heat, Cold, and El Niño Impacted This Year’s Hop Harvest.”

Nate Lanier just posted the below video earlier today which discusses a small-ish hop farm in Western Colorado, Billy Goat Hop Farm. I suspect that most folks think of the PNW when it comes to American grown hops (this topic is mentioned in the video). In the video is some good footage on the actual harvest of the hops and then the subsequent processing and packaging. Nate is purchasing several ‘barrels’ of these hops as wet (fresh) hops which he will be using to produce a batch of wet (fresh) hopped beers. I enjoyed watching the video and I hope some of y’all will as well.

    Cheers!

P.S. On a related note earlier this morning I watered my hop plant in my backyard and in a few weeks, I will be homebrewing my annual batch of wet (fresh) hopped beer I brand as Gary’s Harvest Ale.

Not the same as drinking one but you can read about it here:

I spoke to Gary yesterday to pre-coordinate the harvest/brew day but he informed me he will at the Jersey shore (Ocean City) with his family for the next two weeks so harvesting might be a non-Gary event this year? :grimacing:

    Cheers!

Kinda silly to drive across the country from MA > CO to get readily available Cascade hops....they grow just about anywhere in the US - I have a large amount here in my yard in OH....they make a great wet hop brew when i have used them in my homebrewed beer.....

I agree. I grow Cascade hops too. Only problem is those damn Japanese beetles! :rage:

I have had no issues with Japanese beetles this year but in the past I have and I just set up traps nearby and that worked very well for me.

    Cheers!
