When I tried it, it was a fabulous treat. I am glad you got to experience this beer. It aged perfectly and was fantastic to the last drop. You do not owe me anything but enjoy this beer.

It has been far too long since my last indulgence of a Barleywine. Sadly the local distribution just doesn’t carry them. And this is a true treat, more than just scratching the itch.

Muddy brown pour and under bright light, black in the glass. Spotty lacing, after the head slowly settled, viscous film produced no legs. Filled with figs and dates, rich plumb pudding, some chocolate and toffee. The bourbon barrel influence is very light and a nice touch. Sweetness is mild, bitterness is light, nicely oxidized, slight sourness, possibly just a suggestion that came for a ride with the dark chocolate. The mouthfeel is decadent; ethereal silk, smooth, with surprisingly light, fine carbonation. Warm alcohol nibbles at the nose and throat.

Semi-Cross post from WBAYDN...this beer is totally fun, glad SNBC went down this path!

Me, i am getting into my official review of Sierra Nevada's 2nd Alpha Hop release for the year, this one is Bigfoot based and aged 6 years on cherries, then blended with a bourbon barrel aged Wheatwine. The SNBC team did a fantastic job creating this "Manhattan".

    Cheers!

I had to go back to my review to see what releases i had. Turns out i missed the 2016 release but i did get the pleasure of having Release 1 in 2015 and Release 3 in 2018. Miss having consistent access to FW stuff. Back in the day and the lack of high quality BA brews available, it was a mad scramble in PHX to hit the venues that would receive FW BA allocations on release day. I can remember spotting a truck that had an allocation and following it...man have times changed!

Me, onto round 2. Had to get into some Bigfoot after the round one brew. First sips were vegetal, but it rounded into fine form. Always pleasurable!
    Cheers!

My King's Court (New York) shirt came up in my tee rotation and i thought it was high time to crack this "Old Ale". Many thanks to @Mikexw for sending this one in last fall's BW/Stout BIF. Mike, i was shocked how bitter my first sip finished to go with the toffee theme. This is an American Barleywine IMHO, and a tasty one at that.
    Cheers!

Oh my this is wonderful. Slightly chilled, it hits the nose with a wallop. Some toffee, raisin, a bit of spice, and some nice alcohol heat. Nothing bitter, nothing cloying. I could drink this all the time.

Cross posted from the Imperial Stout thread.....

Fox Farm - Mantel. Blend of Rye Whiskey Barrel aged Stout and Barleywine - 14.8% abv. Jack of all trades, master of none. Which they had stuck with one or the other - mostly has the rye whiskey and stout flavors but only a thinner body from the barleywine component.

OH WOW! I let this last pour oxidize for a couple days and it really has kicked into gear. The aroma and flavors have become much more rich and vibrant, with an umami contrast. The bourbon in particular is more pronounced, which is double edged but that’s ok here. The alcohol is still obvious although it has more of a warming impact than nibbleing.

Hopefully D&L Truck Stop in Auburn, NY has several bottles, I plan to pick-up a few (especially as a wedding gift for a couple of new friends).

Well tonight I have Tree House Brewing out of CHarlton, MA and their Tree of Life Barleywine, coffee variant. An 11.8% barleywine, blend of barrel aged and heaps of coffee bean beers. Ive had it in my cellar for a bit and tonight seemed a good time to share with y'all.

    onto my review:
I am sampling a 12 oz can that is date stamped Autumn 2022. Beer has been in my cellar since around that time. Should be fine at 11.8%, but curious about the coffee changes.
the beer pours a dark cola brown color with a fizzy beige head that barely shows up and is the thinnest of edging almost immediately after the can empties.
The aroma on this beer is a little muddled while being complex if that makes sense. Nothing is dominant on my nose but I do get a good dose of toffee, brown sugar, some peppery booze notes, and some charred wood hits. No hops to be found on the nose, and not really any coffee smells either. Lost to the ether of time?
First sip reveals a medium to thicker body with a bit of sticky and coating texture. Carbonation is very fine and soft, adding only the slightest tingle to each sip.
Flavor is similar to the nose, but here I do get some coffee grounds added to the suite. There is the same toffee notes and some booze again, but no warming, just the bite and bitterness. I find brown sugar and then the toffee lingers after each sip. Its not a sweet beer, but is carried by sweeter flavors. Again, no hop character on flavor profile.
While I enjoy the beer, it isnt an amazing experience and i do wonder if it was better fresh with more coffee character. its fine, and I would try a newer vintage.

Needs a few more years. Maybe I’ll go buy a few more 6-packs and attempt.

Saw a single and figured it was time. The beer notes here on BA mention fermentation with white grapes, but for everything that went into this it tastes more like red wine.

I should probably put a 4-pack in the cellar all the same
