Moonlight Brewing's Reality Czeck at 4.9% abv and a BA rating of 4.28. It's a very good example of the style.

Lager love this week: SN Okto collab with Gutmann, Paulaner Okto Märzen and Festbier.

All drinking very nicely. Pictures to come when I can squeeze in some time.

Ta Dah!! What a whamtastic AAL here. Classy tasting with a round feel. Comes with a free side dish of delicious corn.

2024 Festbier. Not sure if I just got an uber-fresh batch this year, or Paulaner has been tweaking their yeast strain, but I'm not tasting the usual very dry graininess I always got from Paulaner (and Hacker Pschorr) beers. Going down very malty smooth!

    I concur, and @ $7.99 a 4 pack, I'll be getting more.

Catching up from yesterday -- and since we're having an excessive heat watch for the next three days, I don't think I'll feel like anything but a nice Pilsner for awhile.

Old favorite, becoming a seasonal standby (Roaring Table, BTW -- logo and beer name in odd spots on the can).

Doughy, crackery malts with a great balance of herbal noble hops.

Another favorite as the years have gone by. Maybe more of a Vienna than a Märzen, but still a well-made drinker and welcome every Okto season.

FWIW -- blame my glass on the weak heads of these two, I think my cleaning from the last beer was a little lax. I promise to do better.

    Cross-post warning!!

This year's H-P Okto Märzen. Tasting pretty good, but I might like the Paulaner a bit more -- just a little smoother and toastier. Maybe a side-by in order.

Can't let this thread fade -- more of this post-workout today. A favorite for sure.

@hanuswalrus -- gold medal stuff for sure.

Another lager for the lager thread here. Shiner Light Blonde. Gets a poor score on BA, but I think it's a rather okay 3.36. Will happily drink the 4, make that 3 now, that came in my variety 12 pack for $3.99. Cheers to lagers!

I mentioned it in a previous post (#448) -- the logo is positioned oddly off center from the beer's name -- local favorite Roaring Table.

I discussed a Hill Farmstead lager (Pilsner) in this week's NBW thread:

What I did for my summer vacation – part 3 (the final chapter?)

One of the places we visited when vacationing in Vermont was the Hill Farmstead Brewery. The brewery is kind of in the middle of nowhere and thanks to some tips from a person working at a bottle shop in Waterbury we properly navigated to/from the brewery. The to part was not tough but the return leg was a little challenging since there is no cell service at the brewery’s location; we remembered the names of the streets to get there and just backtracked.

Below is a photo of the brewery from the front lawn:

It is quite a pretty, scenic location and I would recommend a visit to BAs who may be in Northern Vermont.

Today’s new beer is Poetica and below is how this beer is described in the Hill Farmstead tasting room’s menu:

“A blend of single decocted and step mashed. Old World German-style pilsner; lagered in wood for 3 months, and carbonated via krauen.”

This beer has quite the interesting brewing process in that the wort is blend of both a decoction mash and a step mash. I don’t recall ever reading about a beer like this. Also, the lagering duration for 3 months in wood is quite different as well.

Let’s see what all of this atypical brewing processes yields.

    Served in a beer mug:

    Appearance:

Straw yellow with a white head.

    Aroma:

Mostly hop aromas of earthy and floral along with bready malt in the background.

    Taste:

The flavor follows the nose with mostly earthy/floral hop flavors but also some bready malt flavor as well. There is a medium bitterness.

    Mouthfeel:

Medium body with a dry finish.

    Overall:

This beer is very good - excellent. I enjoyed drinking it while looking over the fields below.

    Cheers!

Mother Nature just gifted us a beautiful cold front; bright sunny and hot only 4 hours ago, now it feels like Oktober…

    Von Trapp - Oktoberfest

Favorite thing about this beer is that it sits on the lighter body side of marzen; and yet lacks no depth of malt character, it’s a drinkable beauty.
