Brown pour, opaque appearance in the glass; somewhat thin yet dense head, khaki colored and creamy. Expressive nose; chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, caramel, dark roasted grains. Intensely rich flavors; sweet milk chocolate; excellent subdued bourbon note; caramel and marshmallow. Dense, chewy body; heavy velvety touch; viscous, boozy warmth.

This stunning beer delivers the goods! It exudes dense and rich complexity in flavor and mouthfeel. Incredibly balanced and alluringly complex.

    2020 vintage: 12.7% ABV

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle into a snifter at 55 degrees.

Look- Black, opaque, dark brown creamy head, above average head retention, average lacing.

Smell- Bourbon, cocoa, toffee, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, clove, vanilla, oak, high strength of scent.

Taste- Bourbon, cocoa, toffee, vanilla, cinnamon, clove, ginger, nutmeg, oak, highly boozy, high strength of flavor.

Feel- Full body, average carbonation, syrup like, highly mouth warming, moderately bitter, highly boozy, highly mouth coating, moderately creamy.

Overall- This beer provided an absolutely wonderful and complex experience. The appearance was nice with a deep black color and plenty of head retention. The nose was very vibrant and complex. The spices are prominent and complement the bourbon, cocoa and toffee well. The flavor is more bourbon and cocoa forward, with the spices being more subtle. The flavor is complex, boozy and delicious. The feel is flawless, with everything I could want from this style. I would happily buy this beer anytime I have the chance and next time I may try to drink it during winter to add to the experience.

Autumn Landscape is usually the best of the series. My local Bottle King still has 1 4 pack of the Summer remaining, so I hope to see the Autumn soon.

If we also get the Notch I'll be a very happy camper!

American Solera Terpy DIPA Hazy Double India Pale Ale, 8.0% ABV; 4.04 overall

Pours a very hazy gold with one finger of cream-colored head. Average head retention & better lacing

S: Some citrus, a little tropical fruit, peaches once this is warm

T: Follows the nose, dryness, green melon, pomelo, pink grapefruit up front. More dryness, pink grapefruit, papaya & guava once this beer is warmed up, a kiss of pineapple. Pineapple, pomelo, dryness, Limes & a little pine in the finish

MF: Medium body, fairly creamy carbonation, good balance, some acidity

Good drinkability, a good not, not great hazy DIPA

    Good evening denizens of NBS!
Had an amazing day, not all of it went well, the lawn mower just quit, but the rest of it was walking through the woods with my dog and pulling invasive vines.
Sunday evenings I game with a step son and a friend of both of us from many years ago.
Why I grabbed this one I’m not sure, but it is better by far than the one I had yesterday.
Not that it is as good as Transients BBA stouts, but it had zero floaties, always a good thing.
Poured stout black with a curious lack of head considering it almost exploded from the can.
The taste was coffee, cacao, and bourbon. Lots of bourbon. It’s not exactly one dimensional but it does lack complexity.
The feel is appropriate for the style, lightly viscous
OA, it’s not bad, I suppose if you’re looking to get plastered the ABV will do the job. Wasn’t my aim, but what the heck. Had to drink it at some point.
    Cheers!

Bringing y'all a Belgian Blonde from Brewery Ardennes in Geneva, NY. Picked up the can while I was in town for the NCF Envirothon event in July. This beer is a 5.6% Belgian blonde.

    onto my review:

Sampling a cellar temp 12 oz can poured into my chalice. No date stamp on the label or the can. The beer pours a light golden color with only the faintest haze to the beer. A fizzy bleached white head of 1 cm foams up and is faded to nothing very quickly after the pour.
Aroma is slightly fruity with pears and white grape, a little bready note, with hints of floral honey too. Not really boozy and not much of a hop note that I detect on the nose.
First sip reveals a light body and fairly mild carbonation and the beer drinks very easy and smooth.
Flavor is similar to the nose, with some light fruit notes and a bit of bread and again some floral honey notes. The sweeter honey lingers after each swallow. Never any hint of hop character nor any booziness with this easy drinking blonde.
glad to have picked this one up when I visited the brewery in Geneva, NY.

    Boulevard White Chocolate Ale ( 2024 ), 8.0% ABV; 3.53 overall

Pours an effervescent gold with one finger of cream-colored head. traces of head retention & lacing, doesn't drop bright

S: Coffee, vanilla, hazelnut creamer, great nose although seems a bit artificial

T: Follows the nose. slight astringent bitterness, some white chocolate on the edges, dryness up front. Loads of mocha flavors as this beer warms up, dry woody notes as well. Finishes dry with coffee & vanilla, very woody as well, makes me think of licking popsicle sticks

MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation. Carbonation picks up a little when warm, skews sweet & dry

I pulled trigger on this probably thinking it wasn't a Blonde, shoddy research on my part. Me thinks these will be killed off with plenty of Bourbon on the side. This light coffee ale, Imperial or not; isn't my jam style-wise

Well Hello Late Night NBS (NBW)
Sorry to chime in late with this one. But she was worth the wait...

    [IMG][IMG]
I originally rated this back in 2013, but alas never wrote down my thoughts. So although it's been a while, here we went again.

4D (Fourth Dementia) Old Ale by Kuhnhenn

Well, this is an old Old Ale. 2011
Yes, I held on to this much too long.
Having said this, wow. Still a nice drink.
Pours a deep, ruddy brown. No head forms.
Nose is a rich melange of toffee, dates, and some stewed fruit notes. An undertone of leather and smooth roast peeks in as well.
Flavor follows the nose well. A deep, complex melding of the sweeter notes are tamped back by the warm vinous notes. Hints of port barrel come to mind.
Mouthfeel is a tad heavy with a slight hint of oxidation coming through near the end. But only slight. This old ale really holds up with age.

Fat Orange Cat — Bavarian Kittens Fest Bier

Despite some rumors, no cats (or kittens) were hurt while consuming this beer. However, I should not trust BA reviews when purchasing a new beer.

Pours muddy brown, with a large beige head.

The nose is suspiciously funky sweet and unpleasant.

The taste is a lot of caramel sweetness from an unfinished fermenting drink.

A weird aftertaste completes the impression of this beer,

Overall, I should've known better that with the description of a Märzen-style beer but with the name of a Festbier cannot be good.

Second beer to share with y'all , this is Wanderstar Munich Dark Lager. This 5% ABV beer was purchased at the brewery in Ridgefield, Connecticut. I do believe this is a wildly underappreciated brewery in Connecticut for a wide range of styles.

    onto my review:
Sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can poured into my .5L dimple mug. The beer pours a clear chestnut color and sits a slightly darker mahogany color in my mug. A creamy khaki colored head of almost 3 cm foams up and fades to a sturdy surface covering that sticks around throughout the sampling. Creates some windowpane lattice on the glass when I take a sip or swirl the mug. The aroma is some light chocolate malt and a bit of a chalky note as well. There is some roasted malt too and I get a little grassy hop note in the background. Pretty mild but appropriate nose for this beer.
First sip reveals a light body with very fine and tingly carbonation. Beer drinks very smooth and easy , making it easy to empty my mug.
Flavor is some light roasted malt note and some mild dark chocolate mixing together. The chocolate lingers after each sip, with a sort of cocoa powder quality. Not much of a hop note and certainly no ABV hints.
Nice tasty dark lager from this Connecticut brewery.

Here's a decent, but not stellar one.
Looks like @BillAfromSoCal also had an interesting take on this one recently.

Conflict of Interest a collaboration between Fall Brewing and Harland
    [IMG]

    Canned 08/06/24
Not much head forms on top of a slightly hazy golden colored liquid. A slight, diminutive wash of lacing.
Smell is pretty good. Jumps off with notes of grapefruit zest, peach, melon, and a hint of berry. Malt is faint.
Flavor starts off citrus forward, grapefruit zest and orange rind. But then pineapple, peach, tangerine, and some earthy kiwi fuzz.
Mouthfeel is a tad prickly which is a surprise due to the lackluster head formation. Slightly drying in the bitterness at the end.
Overall, it's walking the line between a NEIPA and an old school American IPA without the pine, grass, or dank.
