Don’t Sleep on Belgrade!

Or Serbia in general!

This last weekend I took a little jaunt down from Budapest to Belgrade, and I was really impressed by some of the beers I had there. The beer scene isn’t necessarily huge but the capital has 5-6 breweries, some of which are doing really good work. It was kind of a whirlwind tour but I managed to hit a few places:

• Docker Brewery - easily my favorite stop in Belgrade. The taproom is cool and lively, and the hazy IPAs are absolutely on point.
• Gvint Brewery - focus on lagers, and while the beer was merely okay, the venue itself is an awesome, super artsy, mostly outdoor space that (at least during good weather) was a great place to hang out and chat over a beer.
• Krafter - a beer bar whose draft list is only Serbian craft beers, so it’s a great way to explore the local scene. Also just a cool pub.
• Draft Bar - a pour-it-yourself pub. I know this kinda place can be divisive (lots of people want to talk to a bartender!), but they also had a good variety of Serbian crafts on tap, and it’s a great way to sample a bit and get to know the different breweries.

Anyway, I don’t see any Belgrade-related posts here since, like, 2016. I had a great time and learned a lot there, and was honestly very surprised by the quality of some of the beers I had (again, especially hazy IPAs, and not just from Docker).
