    It’s the weekend, right? Right?!!!

This is a place to discuss new brew finds, hang out and share your thoughts on a beer that is new to you. Give us your thoughts, tastes, aroma, mouthfeel ….tell us about your new beer. Why did you select this brew? What appealed to you….and, did it live up to expectations?

New brewery , new beer …named for the nearby 42nd parallel, wanted to try this new local to me brewery …saw it on tap at The Speedwell on a Friday night date night with Mrs WunderLlama

I paid $9 for a 13oz draft served by a surly , curmudgeonly tattooed beer keep

Brewers notes: New England IPA with a double dose of Ekuanot and Citra used in Whirlpool and again in dry-hop. 6.5% ABV. A cloudy IPA yielding a fresh citrusy welcome on your first sip with a subtle underlying bittery smooth finish

On tap at The Speedwell tavern in Plymouth, served in a tulip

Hazy orange with a creamy white two finger foam crown. Good lacings

    Citrus aroma, orange

Taste starts with pineapple and finishes on grapefruit notes

Smooth with a gentle hop bite

Good beer, worthy of exploring more brews from this brewery

    Tucher festbier
...clear medium amber appearance with pretty much no head
...medium light carbonation with a bit of a thin body
...malty,bread and I know I must be wrong but something that comes off like mint candy along with being mildly floral
...taste is somewhat sweet, almost candy like at certain moments. Aftertaste has this building burning bitterness.
There is malt, bread and a little grain as well
..overall its good but something is off so maybe its me. Not sure I would trust my review[IMG]

    Kloster Andechs Festbier

500mL bottle stamped L1834 poured into a mug at fridge temp 5.9% ABV. The beer pours bright, pale yellow with off white head. The head recedes to a thin ring and cap leaving a little lacing. The aroma is minimal with just a hint of sweet pils malt. The taste is semisweet pils malt with a mineral, mildly bitter floral hop finish. The feel is thin bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Cleanly lagered. Overall, fine festbier. Very drinkable.

    Cheers all!

Drekker Super Mega Lager, 4.5% ABV. Pours light gold with a two-finger white head that left no lacing. Aroma is sweet malt and bread. Taste follows, slightly sweet, slightly bitter. Crisp mouthfeel, and thin. Overall very good. Not a lager fan but this doesn't totally suck.

    Evil Twin TGI Oktober

16oz undated can poured into a mug at fridge temp 6% ABV per label. The beer pours unbright, light amber with very light khaki colored head. The head recedes to a thin ring single layer of bubbles. The aroma is mild with tart, sweet toasted malt. The taste is more tart malt. No real bitterness or hop influence. Thin bodied with high carbonation and a dry finish. Overall, gross. I am not a sour beer fan and it's certainly not what I expect in an oktoberfest.

Probably done trying new stuff tonight. Cheers all!

Brewers notes: New England Double IPA with Strata in Whirlpool and dry-hopped with BRU-1, Strata, and El Dorado. 8% ABV. A fluffy double yielding notes of pineapple candy and orange citrus with an subtle underlying dankness to round out the juicy tropical fruit profile.

New beer, on tap at The Speedwell in Plymouth, served in a tulip, hazy orange liquid with two fingers of white shaving cream atop, good retention, very good lacings

    Aroma is orange citrus

    Taste is orange, pineapple

    Smooth mouthfeel, slight sweetness,

    Another Hill Farmstead beer

In past NBW threads I discussed my summer vacation to Vermont. I purchased several four-packs of beers from The Alchemist brewery and Hill Farmstead brewery. Today I will discuss my last can of Hill Farmstead beer: Society & Solitude #4.

On the can there is a nice write-up:

“Since 2011, Society & Solitude has been our experimental imperial India Pale Ale series. Named to honor Ralph Waldo Emerson’s seminal work of the same name, we explore various hop and malt blends to present balanced, hop-forward representations of each combination.”

And from the BA description of this beer:

“Imperial IPA Brewed with Citra® and Galaxy Hops. The series of experimental imperial IPAs continues. Think Double Citra Meets Double Galaxy.”

I am a bit bummed that this will be the last of the Hill Farmstead beers from my recent purchase but I do look forward to drinking this beer.

Served in my Spiegelau IPA glass:

    Appearance:

Light golden colored, hazy with a white head.

    Aroma:

There is a complex hop aroma here. There is tropical fruit, some citrus and resin.

    Taste:

The flavors follow the nose: a tasty combination of tropical fruit, citrus and resin. Just enough malt to provide some balance. This beer is moderately bitter.

    Mouthfeel:

A light-medium body with moderate carbonation.

    Overall:

I think this beer is very good. I found the complex combination of aromas/flavors to be enjoyable and intriguing. I also appreciated that for a DIPA is was not in the least cloying.

Cheers to Hill Farmstead – my favorite brewery!!!!!!!!!

    @KOP_Beer_OUtlet @rotsaruch @RobH

P.S. Tomorrow (9/28) I will be attending the Belgium Comes to Cooperstown event at Ommegang Brewery with some buddies. It has been quite some time since I attended this event and I look forward to going once again!

    Alternate ending hoser lager
    ...semi clear amber appearance
...medium carbonation with about the same for the body
...aroma is malt, dark bread, honey and slightly floral with something that comes off like dark fruit
..taste has some mild sweetness, malty, dark bread, grain and a mild dry earthiness
...overall its a really nice well done beer[IMG]

Thanks to @WunderLlama for getting us off to a roaring start!

Part of the Boulevard Fall mixed BA Beers 6 pack

Boulevard Brewing Barrel Aged ( Wine & Bourbon Barrels ) Baltic Porter, 11.5% ABV; 4.0 overall

Pours an effervescent chestnut with finger of tan head. minimal head retention & no lacing

S: Red wine, a touch of bourbon barrel & dark chocolate, hints of tobacco. Nose faded a bit once warm

T: Dark Chocolate & Red Wine, some dryness up front. Red grapes, dryness & more chocolate as this beer warms up, some hints of iron. Finishes a little dry, with sweet red grapes, dark chocolate, & some tannins & acidity

MF: Medium body, fairly firm carbonation, somewhat warming. Carbonation flattened out a little once warmed up

I am guessing if you are a big red wine fan, you'd love this, I merely liked this. Still very drinkable & worth a go

I also enjoyed that one about a week and a half ago. Very good stuff and the lack of heavy Munich malt made me quite happy, for some reason that flavor doesn't agree with my palate.

Here's my first submission for this thread: Equilibrium Seven Izzup. I was expecting a really juicy NEIPA but it was a lime and citrus bomb that was pretty interesting and drank too easy. I think if it was more fresh it would've killed but it was a little less vibrant than I would've hoped.

Thanks @WunderLlama for getting this show started!

Cross posted with the Barleywine appreciation thread. Tonight I am sharing Barreled Souls out of Saco Maine and their Nebula extended aged barleywine. This 14.5% beer is the Knob Creek barrel version. Just added the beer to the BA DB.
Glad to share this one with you and drinking to forget the travel soccer game today where our team got smoked by an average squad, and we simply did not show up for the game. Enough about that, lets get to beering!

    onto my review:

I am sampling a cellar temp 500 ml bottle poured into my snifter. Bottled on date is 6/15/2023. Picked up at the brewery last November.
the beer pours a clear mahogany color and very little light passes through my glass, there is some deep garnet red on the edges when I hold to the light. A fizzy, dense khaki colored head of about 0.5 cm foams up and fades to a sturdy edge layer quickly after the pour. one wispy island spins from bubbles rising to the surface.
Aroma is malt and bourbon driven with some brown sugar, bourbon, dark raisin notes and maybe a little fruity plum too. No hop character and not boozy or fusol, which is impressive for a 14.5% beer.
First sip reveals a very smooth slightly syrupy textured beer. Very low and gentle carbonation and the beer drinks pretty easy for one of bigger "umph". A little warmth on the finish as it sits in my belly.
Flavor is definitely on the sweeter side with some toffee and brown sugar mixing with some sweet bourbon, not really any char or wood from the barrel in my opinion. I dont get the fruity flavors really that I got on the nose as the brown malt sweetness carries the day.
Pretty solid sipper and Im glad to have tried this one. Would gladly drink another.... IN fact, I believe I have a 2nd bottle downstairs!
    4.4 in the BA DB

Breakside - Sublime Helles Lager. Needed a palate break from fresh hops, which I'll be back to in a moment.

16oz can served in a footed pilsner glass. Canned 04/23/24. Bought it about a week ago at Chuck's Hop Shop Seward Park.

Pours clear light yellow with a fairly large head, moderate carbonation sustaining it, settles slowly into a thick foamy cap that is much higher around the edges than in the middle. Smell is grains and flowers with a little bit of bread yeast in the background. Some lemon.

Taste is, surprisingly, a bit on the zesty side -- citrus, lime and lemon, but certainly not lacking in the grain department. Malty, bready all over the place, a little honeysuckle sweetness. Moderate earthy bitterness to balance out the floral and honey sweetness.

Mouthfeel is very light, very clean. Overall, this is a nice beer, quite enjoyable and quite light.

Does it have a discernable date or do you need a secret decoder ring to tell like most German Brews?
