Zoiglhaus - Fresh Hop Super Pils

16oz can served in a footed pilsner glass. Can is dated 09/04/24.

Pours clear light yellow, big foamy head, lots of carbonation. Smell is bright floral, honeysuckle, a little fresh hop resin (maybe more than a little), some yeast.

Taste is lovely fresh hop character, floral and grassy with some resin and lemon rind, bitterness that builds with subsequent sips. A little bit on the watery grainy side on the malt profile, though.

Mouthfeel is light, thin, watery. Overall...a little more malt backbone, this would have been stellar. As it is, it's pretty good.

Brewers notes : Fenestrum (fi-nes-trum) Dark Czech Lager balances drinkability with a full body and aromatic complexity, embodying the essence of continental Lagers. Hints of dates, sweet bread, milk chocolate, and coffee subtly tantalize the palate.

Chilled 16 oz can poured into a stein , dark brown liquid, one fat taupe finger quickly recedes to a ring with islands

Aroma is malty, dark fruits , hint of sweet dates

taste is malty, dark brown bread, dates, hint of subtle milk choclate, coffee notes on the finish with a slight coffee acridness ,

Smooth , light body, coats the mouth

    Good beer

Ferment - Fresh Hop Tettnang Italian Pils

16oz can served in a footed pilsner glass. Bottom of the can says "CANNED ON" but nothing else. Bought it yesterday at Chuck's Hop Shop Seward Park.

Pours clear dark gold with about a finger of medium-density head, plenty of active carbonation after the pour. Smell is bright grass and earthy hop bitterness, some citrus zest, a little grain husk hiding in the hops somewhere.

Taste is pretty similar but a bit heavier on the grains, earthiness comes out more strongly than grassiness, citrus is a sort of vague impression.

Mouthfeel is medium, clean, with a dry finish. Overall, it's pretty solid, though a bit on the malty side.

If I could replace this hop profile with the last one but keep the malt backbone and body...gee whillickers, that would be a good beer.

Gold Dot - Luxurious Helles Lager

16oz can served in a curvy Monhegan pint glass. Can is dated 09/12/24. Bought it about a week ago at Beer Authority.

Pours clear light yellow with about a centimeter of head. Lots of carbonation. Smell is bread and grass and flowers, very appealing.

Taste is right in the same vein, bready and grassy and flowery, a little yeast funk and a little grassy bitterness and honeysuckle/grain sweetness.

Mouthfeel is very light, very clean, dry finish. Very nice beer.

    Der Kraken - Marzen- 6.9%.

Amber colored pouring beer. Fairly clear. White head on the beer.
Light malty nose. Hints of caramel.
Taste is malty. Earthy floral element. Hint of raisin. Not really getting the caramel that the nose suggests.
    Decent body. Fairly full.
    Not bad and quite interesting.

    Jersey cyclone festbier
    ...nice clear amber appearance
...just below average carbonation with a medium body which added up to a nice feel
..aroma is malt, toasted grain and cereal with floral honey
..taste is very similar to aroma, has some sweetness but theres a wee bit of bitterness to make a nice balance. The malt with the toasted grain and cereal dominate in a pleasant way
...overall probably the best beer I've had from this brewery[IMG]

My son and I are trying Save the World brewing's Hazy IPA, Chasing Broncos. I had high hopes for this one, however weak on taste and little to no bitterness, I give it an overall 3.8.

Good evening NBWers. Just finished a pork shoulder on the smoker - it's resting for a bit before I shred it up for tomorrow. Good time for a beer.

OEC Kolsch Americana, 5% abv, no legible date on the can.

Slightly hazy light golden color on the pour. The head was about 3/4 inch initially. Drnse bubbles that lasted a while with lots of sticking to the glass.

The smell is sweet malt, some cereal grain, lemony and a touch of lime with light floral hops.

The taste brings out the hops a bit more - floral and lemon-lime leaning towards zest. Nicely sweet maltiness that is bready and dough-like with some cereal grain. Pleasant bitterness on the back end. Just a tad bit of a mineral tang. There's a resinous flavor in the aftertaste and maybe I'm crazy (well...yeah) but it's like cedar. There's a little vague fruitiness - maybe pear.

Feel is medium-bodied with fairly lively carbonation, slightly dry. Nicely balanced.

This is a fine drinking beer. The flavors are pleasant and it's very refreshing. Maybe more towards a blonde ale than a Kolsch? Splitting hairs there. Right around 3.8 in my mind. Would gladly drink again.

Actually from a bit earlier today when I went to help Garth get his pool cover on.
Picked these up during a rare trip to Chicago.
Poured apricot orange with a beige head that left reasonable lacing. Not hazy but maybe unfiltered.
Aroma lost on my Covid damaged nose.
The taste is a good representation of the Midwest IPA. Plenty of pine and grapefruit rind with some sweeter malt which presents as apricot and sweet bread.
The feel is lightly viscous, which for an imperial beer, stout, IPA, whatever, a little body is excepted.
OA, good beer, only wish I could have had it on tap.
Cheers all, it’s been quite a day and I have a nightcap beer that I’ve had for a while but disinclined to drink. You’ll see.

    Foothills Oktoberfest

12oz bottle stamped 071024 poured into a mug at fridge temp 5.8% ABV 30 SRM 42 IBU per label. The beer pours bright darker amber with copper highlights and khaki colored head. The head recedes to a thin ring and island. The aroma is mild with toasted malt and spice. The taste is semisweet caramel malt with darker toasted notes and what presents like rye spice. Medium bitterness. The feel is thin bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Cleanly lagered. Overall, tasty. Maybe not traditional with the higher bitterness, but a reasonable attempt.

    Cheers all!

So, the name of this beer, Dicksmasher, is what gave me pause, not for any good reason, purely emotional.
Despite its name, I’m fine. And the beer, well, is a perfectly average imperial stout. The star anise is almost nonexistent but that’s likely my fault for waiting several years to drink it.
Remarkable head for its age, took its sweet time dissipating, nice looking beer.
The flavors were typically stout like with coffee and cacao, some dark fruit and a hint of black licorice.
The feel is lightly viscous, my preference for imperial beers.
OA, I enjoyed it but probably won’t get it again.
    Cheers!

Im back to share a new beer with y'all and one that is a quirky take on a style. This is labeled a "black kolsch" uses kolsch recipe and ale yeast but has some crystal malt added to the recipe to add the darker color. Seems like it will be fun. Spoiler alert.... it is!
This is from Little House Brewing in Chester, Connecticut, but this can was contracted at 12% in North Haven, CT.

    Onto my review:

Im sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can of this beer poured into my Gaffel stange. Date stamp is 6/11/2024. Not really sure what a dark kolsch is, but I like that style and like this brewery so here we are.
The beer pours a dark cola brown with a fluffy khaki colored head of 2.5 cm. this foam fades slowly down the sides of the glass leaving some sticky windowpane lattice. A dense surface covering also remains in the glass throughout the sampling.
Aroma is some biscuity malt notes and sweet floral honey with a bit of roasted malt and hints of dark chocolate, which definitely differentiates from typical kolsch.
First sip reveals a lighter body and very fine carbonation that is fairly gentle on my palate. Texture is very smooth and sort of thin. Beer drinks easy like a kolsch.
Flavor is some lightly sweet honey and roasted malt notes with some dark chocolate, but overall is fairly mild flavor profile. Never any booze hint and maybe some faint earthy hop note in the background, but not a dominant flavor.
Im enjoying this unique beer and would gladly buy this again.

Well, crap! I thought I wouldn't be here anymore tonight. The last beer I had I thought was new, but I had before, so not fit for this thread. Now the beer I am posting here, I thought I've had before, but, I haven't. So, here it is.
Deadhead IPA: West Coast - Destihl Brewing - Normal, IL - American IPA - 7%

I bought this at work to clean out a spot in the tall boy section thinking I've had this before. I haven't. The aroma is not what I was expecting for the style. The flavor is way more like the style. This beer is 4+ months old, so it isn't prime, but it is tasty. I would wager I'd rate it higher fresher.

    look: 4.25 | smell: 3.25 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 3.75From a 19.2 oz can canned on 05/08/24

This beer is slightly murky pouring and golden in color. There's a 2 finger fluffy looking white head. The head retention is pretty good, and some good looking ring lacing on the glass.
Being a Wast Coast, I was expecting a nose that leans toward pine. Well, this nose is quite tropical. I get mango and pineapple. There's just a faint hint of pine hops.
Taste - Well, the flavor does have some elements of the tropical hops. I do get some mango and pineapple. I really get a nice pine hit on the backside and it is pleasing. There's a pleasing bitter flavor on the backside.
The body is sticky and clingy feeling. The bitter feeling from the hops lingers. Full bodied.
Damn, I am not impressed with the aroma, but the flavor more than makes up for it. This is tasty.

This is all for tonight. I may be back tomorrow for more NBW fun.

    Hey everyone. I’ll have another.

This dunkel is mahogany brown with a fat soapy head to last.

Nose is light earth and coffee. There’s a physical sensation of cool hops breath on the nose too. It’s a relatively light but malty nose. Has a breaddy scent.

taste is clean crisp , roastier than you thought and has a leaning to show you the hops that you typically find in this style.
The transition in the malt is from smooth like the hofbrau to a more robust malt . No caramel flavor. Moderate bubble.
It’s grainy in a way that means more toasty and more full. On the nose you think you’re getting soft brown bread but what you have is dry toasty and even crispy. It has a cola like bite if you’ve ever had real cola. It a dark lager. Clean with no diacetyl and no dms. It finishes malty bitter and more filling.
    Cheers!
