Is 2 minutes early too early???

Welcome beer lovers to the first evening of our 48 or so hour hang together where we love on, well, new beer. If you've been here before you know the routine but if you haven't there is only a few simple rules to follow...all you gotta do is crack open a new beer and share your thoughts on it; give it a full on review, give a sentence or two review, or just what did ya' think of it? did ya like it? would ya buy it again? what's it best suited for? anything...just tell us something about said beer, pictures are encouraged.

This is a fun place to hang out with like minded beer lovers, NBW is all about love and beer:beers: We would love it if you joined us tonight, or if not tonight, we'll be here the next two days so stop on by. On to business...

Shhh...don't tell anyone I broke the rules on this here beer, yea not doing the best at leading by example but hey it was for noble reasons: to drink fresh hop beers as fresh as possible. Does anyone object?? Ok good

Our good friend @snaotheus sent me what seems to have become an annual box of fresh hop beers from the great Pacific Northwest, land of hops...and some other pretty cool things too, but we're here for beer right?? Yes!!! So without farther ado, one perfectly fresh hop IPA from two great breweries.

Bale Breaker/Russian River - Green Rush (Fresh Hop AIPA 6.9%)

Pours a crystal clear gold; sticky white head, really good retention and lacing.

Pungent biting hops jump out of the can upon opening; pine resin, green grass, citrus skin, light peach, overripe fruit, some floral character; malt is subtle but a light sweetness lies under the hops.

Taste leans into all the hop notes; big resin on this one, followed by sticky citrus, fruitiness and again some light peach quality; particularly on the finish, little grassy too with a malt presence that dips its toes into grainy.

Medium body, smooth carbonation; lightly warming on the finish, it’s dangerously drinkable but that warmth makes you take your time; clean; moderate bitterness, sticky hop oil on the tongue.

This beer screams fresh hop, awesome experience sipping on this thing. Grateful for great beer friends like @snaotheus for giving me the opportunity to try this beautiful beer.

    ------------------

Happy Friday night, now open up a new beer and join the fun, we'll be here all weekend long, I have one more cheat beer coming later this weekend :grimacing: plus a few non cheat beers that I'm very excited about.

33 cl can poured into s snifter in cool cool Toulouse, France, for breakfast.,.
The brew is deep black, covered in fine cappuccino-colored foam.
The aroma is fantastically intense, with loads of peanuts (or hazelnuts, really.,), and plenty of chocko chocolate..
Taste is exquisitely malty and aromatic, with popping nuts. Chocolate rides the perimeter and coats the tongue. Like a dry Reese’s PB cup maybe? ABV is well camouflaged but definitely a player.
Medium density mouthfeel driven by low carbonation.
Overall, an adjunct Stout with an excellent base Stout that is masterfully brewed and worthy of slow sippin’.

    A dry, bitter IPA

The above title is inspired by a thread that @bitterbeer started entitled Dry, Bitter, IPAs:

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/dry-bitter-ipas.678397/

Today’s new beer is a seasonal release from Fat Head’s: IBU-Sive IPA.

Below is how this beer is detailed on the brewery’s website:

    “For the love of hops!

    IBU-Sive

    India Pale Ale

    October – December

    Beer Details

    ABV 7.5%

    IBU 75

    OG–FG 16.8–2.7 Plato

    Hops: Strata, Citra, Mosaic

Malt: C-15, Dextrapils, Pale Wheat, Pale Malt

    Yeast: American Ale

    Brewer's Notes:

Heavy doses of Citra and Mosaic hops work together with Strata to lend resinous aromatics. Tropical and citrus fruit flavors of pineapple and orange. Light caramel malt sweetness with medium bitterness.”

Served in my Spiegelau IPA Glass:

    Appearance:

Golden colored with a BIG white head.

    Aroma:

An enticing aroma of mostly tropical fruits but also a bit of citrus as well.

    Taste:

The flavor follows the nose with mostly tropical fruit flavors but also some citrus as well; there is also a bit of resin on the palate. There is a firm, notable bitterness.

    Mouthfeel

Medium bodied with a dry finish.

    Overall

    This beer is excellent!

Today’s beer is from my third six-pack purchase of this beer.

    Cheers!

P.S. Tomorrow I will be attending an Oktoberfest event at Yards Brewery in Philadelphia: “Every ticket comes with an exclusive Yards Oktoberfest 1 Liter Stein and your choice of one of four German-inspired beers brewed special for this event.” I look forward to seeing what special beers they brewed up for this event and drinking them!

Have a great nbw. Pretty average week. Came out to blue rock pizza and tap in Greensboro Adam's farm with my wife. Started State Of Fear by Michael Crichton and its been interesting so far.

It's our 4 year anniversary of the first date and 6 months of marriage this weekend. Will be doing South End brewing Oktoberfest for sure.

Abita pecan ale. Overall good brown. Barely any nose at all. Taste of brown bread/crust, caramel, pecan, cocoa, wood, peppercorn, pine, herbal, floral, grass, light coffee/char. Medium-high pine/herbal/char bitter finish. Lt med body. Drying resins with no hop astringency. Pretty flavorful and crisp. A lot more bitter than I expected, but still a good example of the style. 3.66/5

How is this for irony (is this the right word here?).

Last Monday I started a thread about Wet (Fresh) hopped beers and I detailed a beer I drank last weekend at the Belgium Comes to Cooperstown event at Ommegang brewery:

“This past Saturday I attended the Belgium Comes to Cooperstown event at the Ommegang brewery and a new (to me) brewery Fidens served a wet/fresh hopped IPA that was brewed with Idaho 7 hops. I asked the server (the brewer) how he obtained wet/fresh hops and he informed me that they had them air shipped (FedEx I would guess) to them. This is quite the effort. That beer was very tasty with a prominent aroma/flavor that I described to him as “pungent”.”

It would seem you had the same experience with this beer?

    Cheers!

Poured a 473ml can into a tulip. A big two finger fine white head on a cloudy gold. Excellent head retention. Lots of rocky lacing.

Fruit and sour in the nose.

Fruit and esters up front. Spicy. Brett comes through in the middle but does not dominate. A light brett finish.

Medium body and carbonation. Well hidden ABV.

An excellent oak aged beer. Smooth and well balanced.

Poured a 473ml can into a pint glass. A pale pink bubbly head on a slightly hazy bright pale red. The head soon disappears. No lacing.

Lacto sour in the nose. A faint cherry smell.

A very mild cherry flavour. Mildly sour with a slightly sweet finish.

A medium light body with good carbonation.

As described, an entry level sour by virtue of it's weak sourness and mild flavour profile. Overall a not too demanding decent summer sour.

Sounds like I would enjoy that beer and you mine. Fresh hop beers are like in season fruits, nothing else compares; a fleeting moment of pungent bliss :beers:

Also Jack, have fun at Yards tomorrow.

Thank you @jonphisher for getting this weekends party started.
Tonight I was treated to one sent to me by @Resistance88 when I expressed an interest. The first went to Garth, the second I kept for a proper review. Finally getting around to it-
    [IMG]
The pour is pure black with a dark brown head that barely manages to cover the surface of the beer.
The taste is very good, dark fruit, dark chocolate, coffee and a little oak tinted whiskey. Almost ideal for my preferences.
The feel is viscous and still, this needs no carbonation for a sharp edge, the whiskey provides that.
OA, there is a sad lack of rye whiskey Barrel Aged stouts in west Michigan, so this is a nice treat.
    Cheers all, back tomorrow!

Pours an effervescent chestnut/mahogany with one finer of mocha colored head. Average-ish head retention & lacing

its finally Friday, 3 soccer games and many practices later, Ive made it! Gonna share Pour Mans Brewing Company out of Ephrata, PA and their Big Beard Belgian Quad with y'all. this is a 10% abv brew and seems like a beer that changes each year. Also is a collab with Moo DUck Brewing in Elizabethtown, PA.

    onto my review:
Sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can of this beer that I picked up in PA at the local beer shop while visiting in August. Seems like each year this is a slightly different beer and some years there is v2.0 or V3.0 connected to the name, and different ABVs.
Im pouring into my snifter the beer is a bright amber to copper color with a bright fluffy khaki colored head of 3 cm. This foam slowly fades , but remains as a sturdy surface covering throughout the sampling. I also get dense clingy lattice on my glass as I swirl or take a sip.
Aroma on this beer is a little bit of caramel and some light fruitiness, mixing with some spicy hops and a bit of a chalky smell. Not nearly as sweet of a nose as I anticipated for the style.
First sip reveals a medium body with smooth texture and tingly mouthfeel. Not really sticky or much heaviness to reveal the bigger ABV on this beer. Doesnt feel much like a quad to me, which I often equate with sticky syrupy texture and mild carbonation.
Flavor is closer to what I expected, some toffee and cherry mix with red grape and some sweet honey note. There is a little black peppery bite on the finish to remind me of booze, but not really any warming or heat.
The beer is fine, although its much less "quad-like" than I had hoped. Flavor good but other components are a little lacking in my opinion. Still glad to have tried this one.

Started off with this pleasant one.
    NZ-Fu!
On tap at Windsor homebrew in Anaheim, California.
Gorgeous, almost aluminum brassy, gold, and glass. Quite elegant to behold. Fluffy white head rises over finger and height slowly receives to a generous ring light lacing.
Nose is smooth, slightly earthy and tropical, with hint of berry and citrus.
Flavors really wash around. Citrus, stone fruit, melon, apricot, and a slight nod towards piney. Really fun.
