Here some more info on the Brewery. It is a good little read. Not always in love with some of their low/no Gluten beers; but some hit great

Well, I'm going to have to talk to my distributor rep on Monday to see if we can get it. Knowing the luck in the area with them, probably not fresh, or far from date.

Avery Nomadic Dreamer Hazy IPA, 6.2% ABV; 3.43 overall

Pours a hazed gold with 2 fingers of rocky eggshell colored head. Nice lacing & head retention

S: Mangoes aplenty, some cereal notes

T: Follows the nose, some white grape skin, tangerine, some grassy notes, and watered down Cream of Wheat/Millet flavor, plus dryness up front. Pronounced dryness as this warms up, more tangerine & sweet mango notes, not really working for me, faint green melon & woodyness as well. Finishes with mango, pomelo, dryness & more cold cereal notes

MF: Medium body, low carbonation, grainyness; skews too sweet

Glad I bought a single, it is juicy but seems artificial. Anything heavy one the mango, usually needs something to balance it out to me

Cross posted in the Imperial stout appreciation thread.

Dropping a biggie in here with y'all tonight. I believe this came to me from @Beersnake as some return fire in the barleywine and imperial stout BIF. Thank you! This is Darkstar November a rye imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels and registering 15.3%. Lets go!

    onto my review:
Sampling a 2023 bottle poured into my snifter at cellar temperature. The beer pours a very dark black color and is fairly thick in appearance out of the bottle.
Dark tan head foams up about 1 cm in my glass and fades to a very thin edge layer fairly soon after the pour. Beer looks like an imperial stout in the glass.
Aroma on this big beer is dark fudge and some brown sugar mixing with quite a bit of bourbon. No hop presence and the booziness is hidden on the nose also.
First sip reveals a fairly thick body and sticky texture. This beer feels like a big boozy one. Carbonation is fine and fairly mild, but the beer does coat my palate on each sip.
Flavor is similar to the nose, brown sugar and molasses mixes with dark cacao chocolate and a good dose of bourbon. Here there is some bitey booze on the finish and just a little warmth also. I do get some dark fruit on the burps of this beer, raisin shows up there.
    No hop character on flavor.
This is quite the big imperial stout and I am feeling it well before my glass empties. Very glad to have tried this one!

    Good evening denizens of NBW!
Tonight I took a different track than my normal stouts, I’ve wanted to try the NA Black Butte ever since it won its gold medal.
But I wanted to try it next to the original as they stated that they were so similar.
    Really, they’re not.
    First was the NA version:
Poured looking like breakfast blend coffee and rested black in the mug. The manilla colored head was 2 going on 3 centimeters and left good lacing.
The taste is coffee with floral hops, at least that’s where I think those notes come from.
The feel was excellent for a NA beer, just enough body to let you believe you’re drinking a beer.
OA, I’ve not had many NA beers but this is the best one so far.
The regular version was definitely different, but I don’t think I liked it as much as many here do-
Poured the color of mild coffee but with a greyish tint. The manilla colored head reached a high of maybe a centimeter and dissipated before I could take the photo.
The taste is light coffee and dark cola; didn’t get much chocolate or dark fruits.
The feel was light and easy quaffing, no issues there.
OA, I think I prefer robust porters, I’m glad to have tried this very popular porter but not sure I’d want a 6 pack.
Okay, I’ve satisfied my curiosity. On both counts.
Good evening everyone, I will be back tomorrow, maybe with a barleywine…

Baja-Style Lager. Interesting style. I would call this a cross between a Mexican-Style Lager and a Festbier.

The above title is inspired by a thread that @bitterbeer started entitled Dry, Bitter, IPAs:

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/dry-bitter-ipas.678397/

Today’s new beer is a seasonal release from Fat Head’s: IBU-Sive IPA.

Below is how this beer is detailed on the brewery’s website:

    “For the love of hops!

    IBU-Sive

    India Pale Ale

    October – December

    Beer Details

    ABV 7.5%

    IBU 75

    OG–FG 16.8–2.7 Plato

    Hops: Strata, Citra, Mosaic

Malt: C-15, Dextrapils, Pale Wheat, Pale Malt

    Yeast: American Ale

    Brewer's Notes:

Heavy doses of Citra and Mosaic hops work together with Strata to lend resinous aromatics. Tropical and citrus fruit flavors of pineapple and orange. Light caramel malt sweetness with medium bitterness.”

Served in my Spiegelau IPA Glass:

    Appearance:

Golden colored with a BIG white head.

    Aroma:

An enticing aroma of mostly tropical fruits but also a bit of citrus as well.

    Taste:

The flavor follows the nose with mostly tropical fruit flavors but also some citrus as well; there is also a bit of resin on the palate. There is a firm, notable bitterness.

    Mouthfeel

Medium bodied with a dry finish.

    Overall

    This beer is excellent!

Today’s beer is from my third six-pack purchase of this beer.

    Cheers!

P.S. Tomorrow I will be attending an Oktoberfest event at Yards Brewery in Philadelphia: “Every ticket comes with an exclusive Yards Oktoberfest 1 Liter Stein and your choice of one of four German-inspired beers brewed special for this event.” I look forward to seeing what special beers they brewed up for this event and drinking them!

    Yards Oktoberfest event

I attended the first (annual?) Yards Oktoberfest event yesterday with my wife and my buddy Phil (Phil organized this for us).

There were four beers made available for this event:

Since it was a warm/hot day I decided to order the Festbier (Pale Lager) while my wife ordered the Schnitzengiggles Pale Ale and Phil order the Unter Dog (Amber Lager). We enjoyed all of these beers.

A bonus of the event was that they provided a tour at 3:00 which we all enjoyed attending. This was my first tour of Yards and I was able to pepper the tour guide with questions at the end of the tour.

We are looking forward to attending next year.

    Yards Festbier

    Appearance:

A golden yellow with a white head.

    Aroma:

A prominent bready aroma with an aspect that hints at sweetness.

    Taste:

The flavor follows the nose with bready malt flavor and the aspect of sweetness is quite subdued. There is a low/moderate bitterness.

    Mouthfeel:

This beer is medium bodied with a dry finish.

    Overall:

I enjoyed drinking this beer. I think it is a very good beer.

    Prost!

Good Sunday morning, thanks this weeks host @jonphisher for the great start.
Todays offering is an Oak - Conditioned Altbier from Treehouse. Soft on the palate, nice malty
frame, with a solid noble hop bite. Worth seeking out if this tickles your fancy
Heading to Worcester in a bit to meet with a distant relative of my wifes, Her father has an amazing life story, this will be the first time meeting one of his brothers grand children.

Poured from the 16 oz can dated Autumn 2024 into the test glass
A - Beautiful mahagony color, excellent clarity. A short lived off white cap rides the top.
S - Brown bread, hints of toffee, caramel, tosated walnut, a bit of brown sugar.
T - Roast malts, a bit of that nutty thread, with a strong noble hop presence
M - Soft on the palate, semi sweet, with a fine shift towards a bitter dry finish
O - A fine offering that screams to be had on a fall morning. Good balance between sweet malt and enough bittering hops. The oak rest seems to add a soft touch to the palate.

16 oz can no date into a dimple mug.
L: SRM 24 pours a deep ruby red burnished amber color with a creamy 1/2" light khaki head that recedes to thin edge foam, low carbonation, light spotty lacing.
S: Woody, smoky caramelized malts, dark fruits notes, brown soda bread, dark earthy honey, overall malty.
T: Taste follows aroma plus plum, more wood smoke, grapefruit zest, pine resin, it has a very long bitter linger, brown bread dough, toasted cereal grains, a hint of grape, more bread notes emerge with warming.
F: Brisk then smooth and lightly creamy medium-bodied feel with a rich center and a long lightly drying finish. Becomes velvet smooth with warming.
O: Smoky, fruity, bitter yet gently sweet. Amazing. This beer nails the style effortlessly with flavorful flair and drinkability that is second to none. One of the best I've ever had. It is world-class.

Bright beer. Light straw in color. Excellent head retention and lacing. Aroma has plenty of cracker with a hint of lemon. Before taking a sip, this beer is easy on the eyes and nose.

Taste follows suit. Cracker, little bit of peppery spice. Crisp, clean and refreshing. Overall, excellent beer.

Second beer was Komorebi: Natsukashii - a Rice beer from Tree House

Cloudy yellow with plenty of puffy white head and good retention. Aromas is sweet at first but then light citrus from the hops emerges.

Taste is an odd mix of rice lager and cheap / weak IPA. Not clean enough to be the former and not hoppy enough to be the latter. Somehow this just doesn't work for me. It would be a good "hanging out with friends and not paying attention to what I'm drinking" beer, but with close inspection, not my thing.

@Victory_Sabre1973 did an excellent review of S'Mores Temptress, so I thought I'd review its sister, Cookies 'n Cream Temptress. I really liked this version.
The beer is a very dark brown, near black, color. A small tan head that persists.
Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, and vanilla.
Taste of dark chocolate, vanilla, and some late coffee. Alcohol noticeable.
    A big-bodied sipping beer.

Welcome one and all to New Beer Sunday #1024!

I will be joining @LesDewitt4beer with a smoked beer, @SABERG with an oak selection. Not sure if this beer is the exact same as my Saturday selection, or whether oak is the different component resulting in a new beer / beer name. Hope I enjoy this nonetheless.

Full review linked above. The primary difference I noticed was the maple syrup in the aroma was faint if there, but nearly all other aspects point to the fact this is the same beer as the altered can and slightly altered name of the beer I enjoyed yesterday. The age difference is the likely culprit between the two takes. In any event, glad I have six more, three of each, to enjoy as the weather turns cooler.

Looking forward to the rest of what unfolds this New Beer Sunday. I have two remaining "drink fresh" beers to review from Hop Butcher, before turning to the BA Bangers obtained in Sheboygan and recent releases. Cheers!

An absolutely gorgeous day today in Southeastern PA and my wife asked me to take her to the Reading Oktoberfest at the Leiderkranz. An idyllic setting like a Biergarten in Bavaria. There is lots of great bands (In heaven there is no beer…), great beers from Germany (drinking a Hofbrau Dunkel at the moment) and looking forward the Bratwurst and German Potato Salad soon.

    Prost!
