pFriem Family Brewers -- Nelson Pale

Clear, golden body; good carbonation; 1 1/2 finger thick head, white, lasting. Cracker malt; a bit musty; herbal notes. Toasted cracker flavor with a light tropical fruit undercurrent; hint of white grape must; light, peppery quality; moderate hop bitterness bite. Medium body; nice residual sugar density, mildly viscous; upfront juicy character, finishes with a delicate dryness.

While the expected Nelson Sauvin flavor wasn't as prominent as I would have expected, this is a nice, thirst-quenching pale ale. Balanced and refreshing.

Oh man!! I forgot to post this one, had earlier in the week in honor of “drink em fresh” fresh hop beers courtesy of @snaotheus.

    This one was quite delicious!

Reuben’s Brews - Fresh Hop Crikey

Pours brass like in color; excellent clarity with dense white head; great retention and well above average lacing.

Nose is a fruity, sappy pine, maybe some lemon; the fruitiness just sort of hides in the background, almost juicy fruit like; malt is quite present adds this light sweetness, lightly grainy.

Taste again has some fruit character but it’s quite overpowered; grainy malt that lightly sweetens the piney sap character, touch spicy on the finish.

Medium body; mostly dry finish, big time tongue prickling hops dance across the tongue, moderate bitterness; really clean beer, shows it’s a big beer but it’s not overwhelming; background warming.

    Thanks Ryan!

Oh and because they just pulled it off, this was at mother in laws yesterday for the game

Founders — All Day Single Hop, Session Mosaic IPA

I did not plan to have a new beer this weekend or buy any beer, but I love Mosaic hops. My favorite hoppy beers are Pipeworks Lizard King Mosaic Pale Ale and Lost Nation Mosaic IPA (the rumor is it is being canned again). Eventually, I had to try it.

The appearance is a classic West Coast light yellow-brown beer with a thin head.

The nose is unmistakable Mosaic hops with a little bread.

The taste follows the nose with excellent Mosaic hop bitterness.

The mouthful is clean consistent hoppiness, but somewhat thin.

Overall, it doesn't disappoint and fits well next to the Lizard King and Lost Nation IPA. Amusing that the strongest of the three is called a Pale Ale.

Good evening all, hoping all is well. (Sorry, I’ve not reviewed the whole thread so I am really hoping that all is actually well)
Tonight I had one given to me by @GreenBayBA at the last BA bottle share.

Had a photo to put here but Imgur is apparently having issues, so maybe later.

Poured the color of tea and appeared nearly black in the glass.
The taste is bourbon soaked caramel with dark fruit notes and oak surrounding it all.
The feel is lighter than expected but it doesn’t detract from the flavors.
OA, I really enjoyed it and was happy to get to try it and would happily drink it again.

I managed to find Trösten last winter and still have a couple of cans. I'm less pessimistic about finding it this year, but we'll see how it goes. Maybe I will finally do a side-by-side with Smoke & Dagger.

Which beer? Please advise. Not trying to be an ARSE. But once you are used to letting the pics do the talking...

Another weekend winds down. I did have a taste of this beer yesterday, but this will be the full review from a new to us brewery.

Smug Brewing Smokey and the Brew, a 5.8% concoction they labeled as a rauchbier. I added it to the database as such. It's brewed with chocolate roasted malt and oak smoked malt. While i got the name reference, the label homage to the Trans Am and Burt Reynolds really didn't occur to me until I entered and reread the brewery notes here... Ok so it has cool going for it, but does it deliver?

Short version - yeah it delivers but is it a rauchbier or smoked beer?

Pours root beer color and looks black in the glass. Half inch foamy tan head that falls quickly to a thin ring. The little ring clings pretty hard.

Smoke forward aroma with porter-like malts. Slight char but more smokey than burnt. Behind that a little cocoa and maybe a touch of coffee. Slight vegetal smell. Earthy.

Would it be a shock to say there is a strong smoke component that leads the taste? Very prominent woodsmoke - I'd certainly lean toward nice, clean oak. Underneath that I get a very porter-like base beer. Roast malts, some cocoa and coffee. Minimally bitter, but with the smoke it's just bitter enough. Mild but definitely present fennel/licorice on the back end with a touch of pepper. There is a little green herbal flavor. It's quite pleasant tasting to me.

Feel is medium bodied, lightly carbonated. Just a bit chalky and a dry finish.

I'm diggin' this quite a bit but I don't think it's a rauchbier now that I've had more than a sip or two. It drinks very much like Jacks Abby Smoke and Dagger, so I think I'll request the style change to smoked beer. It's heavy on the smoke but not overdone. The underlying beer is strong enough to handle the smoke intensity. Nicely made beer. I think it'll be around a 3.9 or so, maybe just into the 4 territory.

Martin House Brewing The Mariana or how it's listed on my can; Mari^N^ ( (WTFO???) Trench DIPA, 10% ABV; 4.13 overall

Pours an effervescent & clear gold with a thumb+ of cream colored head

    S: Cakey, citrus, toffee

T: Follows the nose, pretty dry, caramel, a touch of honey, grassy & piney hops up front. More pine, toffee, hints of citrus & a little caramel, a touch of tangerine as this beer warms up. Finishes cakey, piney, dry with some toffee

MF: Pretty chewy, subdued carbonation, pretty good balance for the heft, pine rips it back from being too sweet. Most likely would buy this again, so few breweries around here go this way with hop approach any more

This is a solid effort from these guys, pretty much an early 2000s throwback for this style that will always have a soft spot on memory/pallet. This is a sipper

Freigeist Bierkultur and Bluejacket - Hauptstadt Helles

16oz can served in a snulip. "Brewed and canned by Urban Chestnut, Saint Louis, MO for Freigeist Bierkultur," no date that I see.

Pours mostly clear, light amber, smallish head, not much carbonation though there is some. Smell is grain tea, a little grass and leaves, mostly barley.

Taste is similar, heavier on the grass and leaves, a little honeysuckle.

Mouthfeel is medium to light, effervescent. Overall, it's pretty good.

Sharing a Connecticut brewery with y'all tonight, this is Kent Falls Brewing, located in Kent, CT. the beer is their kolsch, a 5.2% example of the style. always like sharing my local beers and breweries with everyone!

    onto my review:
Sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can poured into my Gaffel stange. Date stamped with canned 9/03/2024. Picked up at local beer shop.
The beer pours a bright clear golden color with many active streams of carbonation rising to the surface. A fluffy bleached white of about 1.5 cm foams up from the pour. This foam fades to nothing soon after I stop pouring and no edging or lacing shows up in my glass during the sampling.
Aroma is some biscuit and a bit of lemon mixing with hints of grass in the background. overall the nose is pretty mild, but is pretty on point.
First sip reveals a light body with smooth texture and very fine and tingly carbonation. Beer drinks very easy , as it should.
Flavor is some white bready malt a bit of lemon and honey and then some grassy and black tea hop notes. Finishes pretty dry across my palate. This is a pretty good example of the style and I could easily drink many of these, good news, I have 3 more downstairs!
    Nice Connecticut brewed beer.

    Crusher
    8% IPA by The Alchemist

Poured from a pint can stamped 9-25-24. Body is a faded peach yellow with a small fluffy head.

Aroma is citrus, and a big Citra nose. Taste is bitter hops balanced by a sturdy malt base. Reminds me a bit of Double Bastard, though not quite as hoppy, the malt backbone acts in a similar way to countermand the. bitterness.

Mouthfeel is soft with a heavy weight. Medium carbonation. Things dried up nicely.

A big IPA that feels as large as its ABV. It walks near the line of too malty, but it doesn't cross that line.

Fresh Hop Nosegrab, a pilsner from Reuben's

16oz can in a curvy Fremont glass. Packaged 09/11/24. Bought it at PCC in Bothell on the 25th.

Pours clear light yellow-amber with a medium sized head and a medium amount of active carbonation. Smell is lemon, floral, and cut grass.

Taste is bright, fresh lemon and cut grass, strong bready grains and some rising bread yeast, flavors are all strong but well-balanced.

Mouthfeel is on the light side, dry and crisp. Overall, very good.
