My wife is going to be in Salem this weekend and she is being a good sport and muling me home some beers. I’m sending her to Notch to grab a 4 pack or 2. Is there a good bottle shop in town worth sending her to? If so what New England beers (any/all styles) are available locally I can’t get in Maryland? Trillium? Heady? Not sure what may be available that I should direct her to find for me.
You probably won’t get heady or trillium in downtown Salem. I’m actually going this weekend too and can poke around at a few liquor stores I know of.
Thanks, I probably need any intel by Saturday morning at latest. Before Friday (from anyone else) would be desirable so I can relay communications to my wife.
Heady drops around here are still infrequent. I've gotten it at the Total Wine in Danvers before it was randomly. One Stop in Beverly has a fridge full of Trillium cans. I think they're like $5 a can and she'd have to cross the bridge into Beverly and back though.
There’s a nice store called Pampelmouse in downtown Salem that usually has a decent selection of local stuff. Breweries like Widowmaker, Jacks Abby, Gentile, Coastal Mass, Far From The Tree cider. Notch is exceptional so it’s smart to focus on that.
I actually found out they are staying up in Essex so they should be traveling to-and from Salem and going thru Beverly. I think I also send her to the One Stop to grab a couple Trillium cans then.
Hijacking this SOB for a sec. How bad would you people expect traffic to be around 8-10 pm on an October Friday night? Kiddos have a thing so I might have a window to drive up and grab cans of the new Helles.
I would expect it to be terrible with no parking anywhere near Notch. I could be wrong though. If I head to Salem at all on a weekend in October I take the train.
Worth noting there are two One Stop Market & Liquors in Beverly. She'll want to go to the one on Cabot St. I went there today, they had a bunch of four packs. Recent stuff but also stuff from August and earlier in the summer. They haven't been doing a great job dating their stuff at all. May want to give her a list. Also may want to tell her to grab stuff from the fridge and not the piles of cans on the ground.
Thanks for the heads up on the store choice and also some of the old dates cans. I’ll let her know. They website photo shows Focal Banger and Heady, is that present as well?
We haven’t had a drop for weeks, I want to say sometime back in late August/early September. Those hold up pretty well if refrigerated though. The Focal may have even been 9/20 if I recall.
Only got Congress Street 4 pack. I’m still very happy, can’t be too demanding when you wife is kind enough to try to go out of their way shop for a beer nerd husband.
