Deep, dark pour, opaque in the glass; thin, wispy head, khaki colored. Great scent; bitter and baker's chocolate; oak barrel; muted ester notes of black cherry. Fantastic taste; cocoa and milk chocolate; very subdued whiskey; extremely mild bitterness. Beautifully rich and dense mouthfeel; soft and delicately velvety; pillowy residual sugars coat the palate.

I would venture to say that this is one of River North's most approachable barrel aged behemoths. One of the best...???...mmm, no...unique and and fine in its own right...???...definitely. The beer really cloaks its high ABV quite well while delivering a deceptively mellow and easy drinking barrel aged dark beer experience. I foresee more personal and beer trade sharing of this lovely beer in the future.

Tree House Brewing Nelson Many Ways. A New Zealand-style IIPA. Featuring Nelson Sauvin hops from Garston Hops in New Zealand. Courtesy of @azuelke. The look is thick honey yellow. There was a very thick foam top. The smell is white grape, honeydew, buttered white toast, and honey. Very enticing. The taste is very juicy white grape, honeydew, Greek yogurt, and orange juice. The flavors are very vibrant and intense. It is a delicious combination. The mouthfeel is swampy, super juicy, fresh, clean, and refreshing, with medium carbonation. Overall, this is the best Nelson Sauvin hop IPA I have ever experienced. Without question. Thank you, @azuelke!

Not much happening today. Some random yard work- pointlessly tidying up some stuff before all the leaves fall.

    Tonight's volunteer:

Smug Brewing Eat My Schwartz - the picture doesn't show Bart's classroom but it's there. So they like clever references...beer has been good so far, let's see how this one stacks up. Yeah - it's a Schwarzbier, man.

Pours very deep brown with about a half inch of dense foam. Foam stays as a cap for a while, then ends up as a hefty ring with some wispy islands. The foam does take its time sliding down the glass - not really like lacing, just kinda slinky.

The smell is like slightly toasty brown bread with a light milk chocolate and some sweetness that's a little brown sugary.

Super smooth on the flavor. It's fairly light on the roastiness yet its noticeable, no char. There's a faint milk chocolate taste or at least the suggestion of chocolate. Slight sweetness. Very mild bitterness - just a touch. Faint peppery spice and a tad bit of licorice spice.

Feel is light, slight chalkiness, neutral finish. Light onn the carbonation.

Overall, this is a nice beer. Easy drinker, good balance of flavors. I'd say around 3.75 - 3.8 or so. Good drinker from a local.

C.R. Novum from Temporal Artisan Ales in Vancouver, Canada. Adambier aged in a rum barrel from St. Croix. One of 400 bottles. 12.5% ABV.

Battled with the yellow wax for a bit (why is their wax so crazy???). Poured at fridge temp. Pours jet black with minimal head. The nose is fantastic. Butterscotch, rum, slight hint of mint, pears, a hint of smoke, watermelon, and some dark bread. Very unique.

The taste is outstanding. Peat smoke, burnt toffee, melon, Crème brûlée, raisins, rum, custard, vanilla, treacle, and a hint of clove. Wow - so different than any beer that I have tried. The mouthfeel is lovely. Medium to thick bodied with a wonderful molasses aftertaste.

Overall, an incredibly unique beer without anything added (just barrel aging). The complexity that can come through with skilled brewing and barrel work is lovely to experience. I wish I got more than one bottle!

Night has come and I’m relaxing with another fresh hop beer from @snaotheus. I hit up the Greek food festival in the town over; insanity, I didn’t expect how big it was, the “largest in the Delaware valley,” note should’ve tipped me off but oh well; gyro, olive oil fries and the best part…fresh made loukoumades from two older greek ladies, what a discovery and treat. I wanted to explore but the crowd was so much and I had to get home. Anyway; onto beer…

Trap Door - Fresh Glowed Up (FH Hazy 6.8%)

Pours hazy bronze orange; white head, little film sticks around as retention.

Nose is fruity; orange and tangerine, passion fruit, some fruit punch character, some light floral undertones; no malt presence, this one’s all about the juice.

Taste leans into those fruity notes; pineapple, passion fruit, sweet citrus; some chalkiness.

Medium body; lightly sweet, soft, moderately sticky, low bitterness but that sticky quality enhances said bitterness; lightly drying.

A pretty good beer, harder to pick up on fresh hop character in a beer like this, lots of modern fruit leaning ipa notes; FH character shows modestly on the finish.

Ryan I got one last fresh hop to go, either tomorrow or I’ll save for next weekend. Cheers Everyone.

    Ommegang super bolleke
    ...dark ruby/amber appearance
...medium light carbonation with a medium body which added up to a nice feel
..aroma is a bubblegum/fruity/candy with yeast, sugary dark honey candy.
...taste is sweet but not sugary and there's some dry bitterness that keeps it pleasantly in check.
    Bubblegum,fruity, with honey candy.

Good evening all! I pulled this out of the cellar, it’s just a little over a year old, and rather like most Boulevard stouts, it failed to impress.
Not that it isn’t enjoyable as a stout, but there is no coffee to speak of and the bourbon is present but mundane.
Could it be I’m too picky about my stouts? Yeah, maybe. But if I can warn others about a mediocre beer, it’s probably my duty.
    Or something.
The pour was decent, nice dark brown, almost creama like head. Didn’t last long but it was there for a bit.
The taste, is a reasonable for a BBA Imperial Stout, all the usual suspects, nothing sticks out but the lack of coffee is a little disappointing. It states it’s brewed with Columbian coffee but that’s just not noticeable.
The feel is appropriate, a little viscous and easy quaffing.
OA, it certainly doesn’t make me want to try more Boulevard stouts, but that’s me. Try a few yourself and judge for yourself.
    Cheers!

Central Waters Brewing Dreaming Softly Between DDH IIPA. Brewed with Nectaron hops. This is a review request from @Danmullens1, since I was at Central Waters Brewing this afternoon. The look is murky peach, with a thick foam top that quickly disappears. The smell is pineapple, peach, stonefruit, and lime. Quite tropical. The taste is pineapple, coconut, lime, and peach. It is very fruity, but not too sweet. The mouthfeel is soupy, yet clean, crisp, light, and smooth. Very easy-drinking. Overall, this is a quality DDH NEIIPA. It comes in 12-ounce six-packs, for a very reasonable price. This is a must purchase beer for me.

Social Project Hazy APA, 4.28 overall

No stated ABV, very strange for these guys....

Pours a very hazed & murky amber with a thumb of eggshell colored head. Sheets of lacing, very good head retention

S: Tropical fruits, some tangerines, green melon, fades down the home stretch

T: All of the above, Cryo hops dryness, passion fruit, guava up front, mucho dryness. Green melon, super dry, some pineapple & tangerine as this beer warms. Finishes dry, grainy, with plenty of green melon & tangerine

MF: Medium body, sorta creamy carbonation, some grainyness, nice balance

Guessing about 5.8% ABV, very tasty. Another winner from my local heroes, so drinkable

Poured from the 500ml bottle into the test glass, Bottled 2023
A - Brown/black border in color. Gentle pour with carbonation showing up as surface islands.
S - Base of dark chocolate, the vanilla is next all under soft lite a blanket of bourbon barrel goodness
T - Char, bakers chocolate, hint of espresso, vanilla, Blackberry, hints of toffee, caramel.
M - The start is sweet, slick texture, fully coating the palate, a bit of alcohol exhale, with a nice peppery bite to finish.
    the body is medium.
O - A very good BBA stout that has no gimmicks, the body is a conundrum. Hefty but with a thin finish.
Im intrigued to try this one again

    Aroma of grapefruit and pine.
Taste of grapefruit, grapefruit rind, pine.
    Medium-bodied.
