Hello everyone. Had these two beers selected, but bringing them in this weekend with sadness as Revolution announced they are closing their OG Brewpub after 15 years, due primarily to a loss in business over three years of lockdowns, and lack of recovery with people shifting to more stay at home. I'm guilty on that front and mostly went to their taproom when I did visit after I stopped going downtown for work.. Glad their taproom and brewery will continue and hope the impacted staff can find jobs ASAP. Support your good local breweries.

This selection was given to season ticket holder picking up their October Deep Woods Allotment, and I imagine is on sale. It's a tall boy 10% ABV, so not exactly an everyday option for me, but poured about half in a smaller League of Heroes glass and will pour the second once my lunch delivery arrives, hopefully surendepidously after finishing my review and WBAYDN post.

Full review linked above. Bottom line, this feels strong and a bit too strong for my personal preferences, but in terms of a stovepipe for folks looking for a buzz, this works well. Nicely balanced sweetness vs. hops, freshly peeled orange, carbonation heavy as seen but gentle as experienced. Glad they comped these to Season Ticket holders and that I opened today.

Have a new to all (except perhaps if this was draft only variant at a previous release) Deep Woods beer to share tomorrow during Prime Time!

    Cheers!

Cheers @cjgiant we seem to have similar impressions of that beer, if I remember it correctly. Should their Vienna or Czech Pils show up, I’d recommend giving them a try both currently in the fridge and crystal clear batches. It’s weird their clarity really seems to fluctuate, but with the past few it’s been consistent and hopefully here to stay.

See you all later with a beer I hope.

It's a beautiful day here, sunny and mild, so we took the dogs on a longer than usual walk. They seemed to enjoy themselves. Home now, ready for some beer and some college football.
I had a lot of new beers to choose from, and chose Molotov Cocktail from Evil Twin Brewing. This was one of the beers in the Big Beer Box.
The beer is an opaque orange color. A half-inch white head disappears quickly. No lace.
Aroma is sweet fruit, a little pine, and some floral hops.
Taste of orange, tangerine, and melon. Some pine.
Minimal bitterness. Alcohol not too apparent.

This weekend I have a quite a few new beers courtesy of the generous @TCgenny. Probably won't get through them all and will dig back in during the week.
I'm starting off with Prizm from Wayward Lane Brewing in Upstate NY. The can says its a Cold IPA, the BA database entry lists it as an IPL. The brewery's website does not list the beer currently even though this can is just over a month old. I am assuming "cold" implies it is made with Lager yeast. Whatever you want to call it, it's worth drinking.
Poured from a 16 oz can dated 09/24/24 to a Tulip at fridge temp. This was a gift from distant BA, but it arrived cold in a styrofoam box with plenty of ice packs.
The body is not quite clear but certainly not hazy and is apple juice in color. It's certainly clear enough to see the carbonation. The 3/8-inch/10mm white head is puffy. This fades to a thin, but dense ring in a few minutes. Lacing is moderate.
The hoppy and citrusy, mildly astringent.
Taste is also hoppy and bitter in a very pleasant way. Alcohol is noticeable but not in the way of the flavors, although at times it seems slightly medicinal.
The mouthfeel is quite light but with some hop oil sensation. Carbonation is aggressive despite the relatively small head.
    Overall quite good.

Dark mahogany pour, clear, appears black and opaque in the glass; thin, fizzy head, tan, quickly dissipates to a wispy ring inside the glass. Faint trace of dark roasted grains. Excellent dark malt flavor with a slowly creeping bourbon presence apexing at the finish; a twinge of chocolate. Medium-heavy mouthfeel; slick and silky smooth on the palate; fine warming boozy heat at the finish.

This is certainly a beer that likely hasn't aged well, at least as far as picking up notes of vanilla and coffee. The dark chocolate is about the only advertised flavor (other than the very prominent bourbon barrel taste) to make itself known. If this were a fresher beer, I'd give an overall score of 3.5, but I am guessing that if I tried this last year, it would have been much better overall. It's still a decent barrel aged stout, just not fantastic.

Drekker Muscle For Rank NEIPA, 7% ABV. Pours hazy light-orange with a four-finger white head that left a foam cup which later left a lot of lacing. Aroma is citrus and tropical fruit. Taste follows, plus peach, faintly sweet, moderately bitter. Decent mouthfeel, overall very good.

I'm probably inviting a blizzard, but today I took out the snowblower and put away the lawnmower. It's a nice 60 degree fall day, so I finished up the leaves. The rest can blow away or rot.

Poured from a 16 oz can dated 09/12/24 to a Pils glass at fridge temp. This was a gift from another BA, it arrived cold in a styrofoam box with plenty of ice packs. Brewery website lists it at $20/4-pack.
The body is clear and is light straw in color. A puffy, pure-white head sits on top. Carbonation nucleation is heavy and mesmerizing. The head never quite fades and lacing is strong on glass tilts, but falls back to the liquid quite quickly.
There is none of the bread/biscuit aroma in a regular Pilsner. This literally smells like a 4-6% west coast IPA. Although I do detect some fresh grass aroma, it is mostly hoppy pine.
Digging in, it is very dry and hoppy- citrus rind/peel and pine sap with a background of alcohol. On a swallow my mouth drys out like it was desecant, but after a pause there is almost a sensation I just swallowed an NEIPA juice bomb. Wierd.
The mouthfeel is very light. Carbonation appropriate and not as aggressive in the mouthfeel as the appearance of all those bubbles would suggest.
I really enjoyed this creative beer. I could see this being great as a summer beer.

Fantastic amber color, very clear; very little carbonation; thick head, dense and frothy, very long lasting. Pleasant light caramel scent. Very good taste; more caramel presence; mild hop bitterness. Medium body; smooth; light sense of warmth.

This is a generally pleasant yet unassuming Oktoberfest beer. There is no real 'wow!' factor, but it drinks easily enough and is a nice change of pace from their cream ale

    ---------------------------------------------------

...Tom sent me some really nice beers, but this one (of all of them) is one of the ones I was most excited about, not because I expected it to be any great shakes overall (hey, it's a Genesee beer! :stuck_out_tongue:), but as I stated to Tom, it's my Great Lakes rust belt roots coming through...I used to buy the Genny pounders (16 oz bottles of their cream ale) by the case back in the early 80s prior to the start of my USAF days)...

    400th batch:

Poured from a 16 ounce undated can bought at the brewery’s Twisp taproom into a snifter at 49 degrees.

Look- Pale gold, white sudsy head, very hazy, average head retention, above average lacing.

Smell- Tangerine, pine resin, between medium and high strength of scent.

Taste- Tangerine, pineapple, pith, slight pine resin, moderately boozy, between medium and high strength of flavor.

Feel- Medium body, average carbonation, moderate bitterness, moderately boozy, mildly creamy.

Overall- This was a fairly straightforward unfiltered West Coast Double IPA. Predominately citrus character with some piney undertones. A solid beer that provided a nice drinking experience.

Founders Brewing KBS Double Oaked. I am excited about this beer. I really like most of the releases in this series. The look is everblack, with a thick light brown foam that quickly disappeared. The smell is quite familiar. Coffee, chocolate, and vanilla are there as usual, but there is a stronger oak and bourbon scent. It smells very enticing. The taste is also very familiar, with chocolate and coffee leading the way, followed by vanilla and caramel, but it has a richer, thicker, boozier, and more oaky finish than the regular version. The mouthfeel is thick, muddy, oily, silky, and smooth, with low-medium carbonation. Overall, this beer is about what I expected. A meatier version of the regular beer. Which makes it an excellent bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout.

Brewers notes : This rendition of Double Shot Nitro was thoughtfully dosed with nitrogen to give this iconic treat a wonderfully velvety texture. Double Shot Nitro is an elevated version of our beloved Coffee Stout. It features coffee sourced and roasted specifically for this beer in-house. Controlling every variable has achieved a new level of balance, integration, and enjoyability. We experience notes and aromas of dark chocolate, caramel, milk chocolate-covered espresso beans, and a hint of citrus-like acidity. The mouthfeel is luxurious with a soft and velvety carbonation. It exemplifies what is possible by applying years of learned intuition paired with complete process control. We hope that you love it!

Chilled 16 oz can poured into a prententious beer glass

Black sludge crowned by a creamy two finger taupe foam , good lacings

Aroma is chocolatey , milk chocolate, coffee

Taste is chocolate, milk chocolate, roast coffee

Velvety smooth, creamy, low carbonation , sweet

    Delicious beer

Fine, golden color, appears unfiltered; thick, frothy, long-lasting, white head, semi-creamy texture, spidery patches of foam cling to the inside of the glass. Low-key fresh citrus aroma, lemon and tangerine. Mild, delicate flavors; twinge of bread crust; lightweight fruity esters; minimal hop bitterness. Medium-light body; lightly juicy.

This is a very fine lager, seemingly simple yet slyly complex.

Logic Light from Bottle Logic. This is their foray into light lagers. ABV is 4.2% and this was canned a couple of weeks ago.

Poured from a can at fridge temp. Pours a nice semi-transparent yellow with an inch of white head. The nose is really nice. Rustic, slightly spicy, grainy, light lemon, and wheat.

The taste is super smooth. Refreshing. Again, light citrus. Honey, wheat, and slight pepper. Crisp with mild sweetness and pretty much zero bitterness. Quite malty. Easy drinking lager. Nicely done.

Pours a very attractive slick black with a solid 2 plus finger light brown head that leaves some thin lines of lace with nice retention. 4.75

Aroma is sweet candied plum, molasses, biscuity glazed honey, smoked peat, fig, dark chocolate, char, almonds, vanilla, and some whiskey lingers inviting you in for a unique big beer experience. 4.5

Taste follows I let it warm a little and the flavors opened up big time. Flavors were kind muddled straight from the fridge. Dark fruit, peat, molasses, biscuit, dark chocolate, almonds, vanilla, and oaky Smokey whiskey. 4.5

Mouthfeel I wish it was a touch bigger and I understand why it isn’t, bigger than average still. Soft carbonation, a little dry, and at 10% it drinks bigger. 4.25

Overall for me the complex layers makes this an absolute treat. Very good now, but I feel Christmas time should settle it down a bit. Just my thoughts. Worth a shot for sure. 4.5 Cheers all

Good evening all. Finally got a bit chilly here today. Picked all of my hot peppers and will drown some in vinegar tomorrow and take some to work for dehydration on Monday...hey, it's my lab and it's R&D. Our Indian food restaurant posted Diwali specials so we went there for a late lunch and had 'em all. They did a fried okra (fun with a sweet sauce and savory batter), an eggplant dish in an incredible sauce, and tandoori duck with a tomato cashew based sauce that was butter-tender and outstandingly flavorful.

Tonight's beer proves I'm susceptible to marketing...and gnomes...

LaChouffe Houblon - part of a four pack with the glass. Actually like the whole gnome thing and I think the glass is cool. Besides, it's almost time for the outdoor gnomes to decorate our woods, and the house gnomes have been pretty active finding new hiding and vantage points, so why not?

Pours a slightly hazy gold color with an enormous rocky white head. Clings like mad so will need to do some work cleaning that spiffy glass.

It doesn't come across as hoppy on the nose. Definitely Belgian. A tiny bit of funk, yeasty, banana, lemon, crackers and bread, honey sweetness, peppery and a bit of clove, lightly floral, a little fruity bubblegum.

Interesting taste. There's a constant level of underlying bitterness rather than a big wallop. The bitter doesn't get in the way- the other flavors play over the top of it. Opens a little bready followed with honey sweet, lemon peel, grapefruit, light fruity bubblegum, grassy/herbal, a little banana and a kind if raw grain taste. In the aftertaste there's a bit of pepper and clove along with some floral notes. There is a mild bit of funk and earthy yeast. It all holds together and the juxtaposition of the flavors over the bitterness is cool.

Feel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. The head lends some creaminess - it's pretty unavoidable and it's not going anywhere soon.

Overall, a fun drinking beer and going down way too smoothly for 9%. I think this lands in the 4.2 territory - interesting and an enjoyable drinker.

    Good evening NBW
I might be thick headed, but after reading multiple descriptions for this beer, I believe it was aged in barrels, made of cherry wood, which previously aged Japanese whiskey.

    Hitachino Nest Sakura Stout

11.2oz bottle coded SB.24.04s poured into a tulip glass at fridge temp 6.5 % ABV per label. The beer pours completely black with no light penetration and light brown head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. The aroma is mild with sweet roasted malt, vague fruit and milk chocolate. The taste is mildly roasted malt with underlying fruit sweetness and chocolate. Medium bitterness with a possible earthy note from the hops. The feel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, good stout.

That's likely it for me this weekend. Cheers all!
