Angry Chair makes crazy sweet stout! I can always go for a handful of them but gotta stop when I start getting a headache.

I enjoy them in very small doses, as in the wife and I will split a 5 ounce glass. Tasty, but many of them feel like you're drinking a cup of Bosco.

I feel like excessively sweet stouts are the way of the world now. It's pretty rare when I order a stout and don't get one. Some are good, but most taste one-note and get old fast IMO. I have to admit that I kinda like the ones that go completely ham and just taste like chocolate syrup, though. Angry Chair definitely comes to mind. Normally I prefer hoppy old-school stouts.

Those remind me of the Dunkin' Coffee's that look more like desserts than coffee. I can't bring myself to purchase a 4/6 pack because I fear it's going to be overly sweet.

These are the annual to year round stouts, oatmeal stouts & porters for me available in Chicago.

There are “pastry” variant versions of some of the beers listed below. In nearly all cases, I enjoy the standard version better than those with added flavors.

    My non Sweet 16

    (3) Lower ABV
    Bell’s Kalamazoo Stout 6%
    Deschutes Obsidian Stout 6.4%
    Spiteful G. F. Y. Stout 8.0%

    (5) Higher ABV
    Firestone Walker Parabola
Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout
    North Coast Old Rasputin *
    Revolution Deth’s Tar
    Wild Onion Drago

    (3) Coffee
    AleSmith Speedway Stout
    Dieu Du Ciel! Peche Mortel
    Revolution Cafe Deth

    (2) “Pastry” Stouts Not too Sweet
    Haymarket Clare’s Thirsty Ale
Spiteful Hostile Harry Russian Imperial Stout Cinnamon Bun Variants

    (3) Porters
    Revolution Coffee Eugene
    Spiteful God Damn Pigeon Porter
    Tighthead Boxcar Porter

I really love a straightforward, classic stout (Irish, milk, dry). Pastry stouts I generally avoid. Barrel-aged and adjuncts like coffee, chili peppers, vanilla are okay by me, but peanut butter and other candy-like sweeteners generally turn me off.

Not all salads are healthy. Then again, not all salads are delicious.

    Great idea!

I'd also echo a few other BAs and say while I'm not into drinking a bomber of a 15% milk stout loaded with extra flavorings, a 4 or 6 oz. pour of that same beer might make for a lovely experience.

I really dislike stouts with added junk. I'm good with coffee, maybe a bit of vanilla, and some oatmeal.
