Porter Appreciation Thread (2024)

I picked up a six pack of Sierra Nevada Porter when we stopped at the Mills River location the other day. Have enjoyed a few cans so far

 

Back of fridge find. Evening Coffee by Little Log Cabin canned two days short of a year ago. Still tasting good. Cheers.

Origin of Darkness - Põhjala

Pretty sweet, but the alcohol fumes are shockingly high for a 9.5% beer. The bitter/sweet balance becomes almost neutral. Lots of molasses, plumb, and prune. Charred chocolate brownie carries into a long finish. Some tobacco too, makes me think of long conversations with good beer or cognac and a mild cigar. Not sure the cheddar is doing anything, but it’s a tasty counterpoint.

 

The Iron Bowl is on my YouTube 4 game split but mainly watching the ASU-UA game. ASU has had a helluva year considering they were picked last (18th) in the Big 12 pre-season poll, Enjoying an Eddy Fitz, nice as always!

Had a very nice Baltic Porter from River Roost. Double Barrelled from River Roost. 12% ABV. Bourbon Barril Aged,

 

Drinking a Pohjala Cellar Series Öö XO, a so-called “Imperial Baltic Porter” clocking in at 11.5 ABV. I was under the impression that all Baltic Porters would qualify as imperial but perhaps that is not correct. Aged in XO Cognac barrels. Product of Estonia, where the nights are long, dark, and cold. This blacker than black, quite bitter at first with a sweet malty finish. The cognac is not at all prominent. It is very nice and was 30% off. Worth a try for sure.

Bourbon Barrel Aged version of their regular coconut porter.
