My hot take is that you can buy (and find) St Bernardus Abt 12 much more easily than Westvleteren XII and there won’t even be much difference in quality.

An old story: A number of years ago this beer was available for sale in the US. I think it was a 'fund raiser' to obtain more money for the Monastery since they had a fire (or something like that). The beers were sold in a package along with a glass (they referred to the package as a "brick"). This beer was not available in my home-state of Pennsylvania but it was sold in nearby (to me) Delaware and the Total Wine & More store received an allotment. I called the store in the morning it went on sale and they informed me they had lots of bricks in the beer section. I asked if they could hold one aside for me but I was told "no". I drove down to the store (about a 40 minute drive that day) and I went to the beer section and asked an employee where I could find Westy and he pointed to an empty area where they had them stacked. He went on to say: "The last brick sold just a few minutes ago". I was bummed. I guess it was just not to be!?!

I am a fan of St Bernardus Abt 12 and it is readily available at my local supermarket. So I have that going for me!:+1:

    Cheers!

I'm generally a fan but they've definitely had a few clunkers -- the last Port Damon was really bad IMO - sour/cardboard.

I just had a 2022 50/50 Buffalo Trace last week. Still tremendous. I did a trade on here like five or six years ago now too where a guy just wanted two four packs of locals for 6 or 7 vintage bombers of 50/50. They were a bit past their prime, but still delicious, and I was out a total of like, $40 including shipping.

It doesn't matter who owns a brewery - whether a gigantic corporate conglomerate or three dudes who look like Rollie Fingers - if the beer is good, I will drink it.

100% on board with this! I only withdraw my support if its found that a brewery engages in slimy practices like mistreating their workers, endorsing racism or something along those lines.

Okay I’ll third this one too. I drink Leffe and Lagunitas often and those are big ones. Haven’t heard anything awful on their practices however.

Have you had regular BBA Damon? (Not that port shit.) Or the latest stout…double barrel beyond good and evil? Pretty great stuff

Lagunitas Sucks! (Sorry, I couldn't resist that one given how this thread has a few 'insults' thrown around in posts above.)

Throw in oligopolistic business practices. That would then eliminate the beers from the "gigantic corporate conglomerates" that dominate the US beer market - AB, MC, Heineken and Constellation.

No. It's tough for me to make an 8 hour round trip for stuff that's $45+ per 500ml

I've had a few. Most recently a Geneology of Morals variant, which was incredibly underwhelming. KBS off the shelf is better imo. 2022 BCBS coffee was head and shoulders above it for the same-ish price but way better availibility

The SEY coffee release from this past spring was an abomination.I described it as drinking 16 oz of straight espresso -- which nobody wants to do. That said - I've checked in 12 variants over the years and almost all of the other Geneologys were home runs - it's been an incredible coffee canvas for them since they started operations. But your point is well taken given the price point. I'm headed up Friday and considering the $45 500ml Order of things #4. I had the other 3 -- 2 where banger - but one was a dud. So I'm not liking the odds but since I'm driving 3 hrs - will probably pull the trigger.

Show of hands who knows who Rollie Fingers is & the correlation to today’s brewers (w/o Google)…free beer for the winners:grin:!
