What beer are you drinking now? #4435

Rain all day, with high winds coming this afternoon. Getting concerned about a white Christmas now. This one really is impressing me more than I remember the first few batches. My palate or tweaking from them? Cheers all

 

I need to snag some more beer later. This is solid.

No snow here yet, but Mrs. Lizard says it's scheduled for this afternoon. We made a run to Akron yesterday, so I've got enough beer for another week.

Today's New Breakfast Beer, one that's been languishing in Beer Reefer #1 since October:



A "dark" saison from the Frog.

Style: Sort of follows the style guidelines as condensed by BA, but this somewhat of an experimental beer, so ...
Final impression and summation: 3.75 (After deducting 0.25 point for an undated personal container) Has some weak clove phenols but lacks the funk frequently found in saisons. Also, the malty presence is odd. Not a bad beer, just … unusual.

Lunch time BA's! Hot garlic wings and a bacon and mushroom pizza from the local mom & pop joint, with a can of Focal Banger.

1) Andechs Weissbier Dunkel (5.0%): A German Dunkelweizen with flavors of cocoa, caramel, bread spices.
versus
2) Weihenstephaner Hefeweisbier Dunkel (5.3%): A German Dunkelweizen with flavors of orange spice, caramel, bread, and yeast. (Mismatched the two blind)

German Dunkelweizen Battle. Andechs vs Weihenstephaner. I've done this one many times. A fun style, similar but darker than your hefeweizen.
First is Andechs. This has historically been very good. Some cocoa, caramel notes. Clean. Today this is drinking sort of flat. The bottling date is this year so it's not old. Not quite as I remember.
Next is Weihenstephaner. More orange spices and bread spices with yeast. More flavorful and complexity today.
Winner: Weihenstephaner
