Appreciation Thread Ranking for 2024

    Based on the number of posts, here is the ranking of most "popular" on BA this year (so far):

    1. Imperial Stout (3,627 posts)
    2. Barleywine (1,272)
    3. Porter (316)
    4. Belgian Beer (253)
    5. Non-alcoholic (238)
    6. Bock (219)
    7. Smoked beer (200)
    8. Saison (119)
    9. Old Ale (83)
    10. Old-School East Coast IPA (76)
    11. IPA (33)
    12. Rye Beer (10)

    Does this appear to represent what's most popular on BA? Are imperial stouts really 32 times more popular than IPA's? If not, why aren't those threads hopping (pun intended)? My thought is that imperial stouts are probably the highest in ABV, so these are the drunkest people on the site. More drunk = more active??? Totally makes sense :stuck_out_tongue:.

    What are your forecasts for 2025? Any new appreciation threads that people want to see?

    This is quite surprising. I would rate them according to my preferences:
    IPA
    Imperial Stout
    Barleywine
    Porter
    Belgian
    Old Ale
    Everything else except Smoked beers....

    I call a foul. Hamm's Appreciation thread has 415 posts and counting. So, that should be #3 on your list. Check my math @DavetotheB. Besides, it was much more fun than the Belgium Beer thread. @Blogjackets

    It didn't have 2024 in the title so it wasn't included in the yearly threads (wasn't caught by my search). Perhaps it will be a yearly thread moving forward?

    No, but I’m not surprised by this. The IPA thread probably never took off because IPAs are so ubiquitous that people saw little point in posting there. Might as well have an appreciation thread for air or water.

    NA isn’t an official appreciation thread (but it does have the 2024).

    I’m glad to see the smoked thread hit so high. Which reminds me, I haven’t found any of that Alaskan Smoked Porter in the wild yet! Need to make the rounds before it disappears for another few years.

    Not shocked by ISIL leading. Most shared Stouts are unique, cellared, variants, one-offs, special occasion, and rarities.
    I mean.,. how many times do Heady, Pliny, and Jai Alai need to be noted and talked about on a dedicated thread?

    I liked these threads a lot better when they were segregated away from the actual Beer Talk threads.

    Was lager appreciation officially killed off?

    I reckon @Resistance88 is a huge contributor to the Imp Stout thread, would post in this one more often if I could get my hands on some more often. Alas.

    I believe it makes sense and would refrain from any predictions for next year. Barleywines are also seemingly very popular, surprisingly.

    Yes, good trend. Belgians brewers have taken on N/A beers for a bit too. I’d miss the « buzz », but a few were actually tasty.

    I was not aware that it was closed! That would definitely have an impact. It's open now, not that it matters at this point. A new one in 2025 should be created.
