I just picked up this year's goose island bourbon county original stout. I've tried researching a bit but haven't found much. What do you guys think is an average serving size for a beer of this abv? How many glasses should I be getting out of a 16.9 oz bottle?

    One ppur.

If you follow "the man's " rules maybe 5 standard drinks? or some crap. I'd say 3oz since that's what is served at FW for their BBA beers

Maybe the FUPA Gods can answer this

A normal serving size for all beers should be 12oz.

To me, it depends on how long you want to enjoy the beer time-wise. I usually drink a full bottle of these BCBS beers over a 4-5 hour sipping session. Plus I always have a full meal in my belly to soak up the alcohol. So factor in the outside factors (time and food) to get to your answer.

To answer the OP - I will solo drink a bottle like that, just over the course of a few hours. Or split it with a friend if the occasion occurs.

If I were at a beer bar and it was on draft, I would expect it to be served in a 10 oz glass.

One serving. I’d pop that bottle open and not look back. Drink it over a 1-2 hour period to allow warming and then review it.

    According to Google's AI, Gemini:

Therefore, a 16.9 oz beer that's 14.7% alcohol contains approximately 4.1 standard drinks.

Meaning, about 4 oz per drink.

    3oz

    end of story

Workout as well if you drink a lot of these or you'll end up a fat old man ( 80% of BBA beer festivals) They look like a god damned Grateful Dead concert these days:sweat_smile:

I’m tempted to say 8 ounces, but I’ve come to realize that serving equivalent is like 24 ounces of a nearly 5% ABV beer. 8 ounces would be very generous.

At Goose Island itself, you can expect a 6 ounce pour of Bourbon County Stout. Let’s run with a serving closer to that. Grab three glasses and divine the bottle.

Drink the whole bottle in one sitting. Yes, it's a sipper, so take it easy if you've never had a brew of this abv. before. This is not a fuckn' drinkn' contest. I guess, 2-3 hours would be a very nice time if you want to time it. It's all about you, and how you handle the shit. Enjoy!

    Cheers!

everyone's missing the point of OPs question.

No way in hell an average serving size is the entire bottle of Budweiser Crappy Brand Stout .

3-4 oz is the final answer FOR AN AVERAGE SERVING SIZE

"average" in the sense of how most bars would serve a beer like this? 5-10 oz

One standard drink by the metrics of most national health agencies would be around 4-5 oz

For me, zero. I'd prefer to drink one moderate alcohol (5 to 6%) beer than a few sips of a high alcohol beer any time -- maybe even as much as a 16 ouncer or half liter.
