It's a winter wonderland here. -4 with flurries. Enjoying an interesting apple flavoured Witbier.

 

Time for dessert after tamales for breakfast. Two pork shoulders waiting to be cut/trimmed for sausage. They can wait awhile. Cheers!

 

A Colossal Two days before Christmas. Enjoying a remake of Port City's second anniversary beer (they have been around something like going on 13 years now) after cleaning up a good bit so our house sitter doesn't realize we're quite the slobs we actually are.

Lunch beer on the side porch - “Zombie Dust” pale ale:



Sunny and 45° outside…now we’re talking beer drinking weather! Cheers y’all!

 

Having another Centennial by the wood pellet stove at our friends house before heading to a local ale house for some happy hour apps and drafts

 

1) Weihenstephaner Festbier (5.8%): A German Festbier with flavors of pale malt, smooth honey, cereal, pale Munich malts. Smooth.
versus
2) Andechs Festbier (5.9%): A German Festbier with flavors of earthy Munich malts, grassy, bread notes and yeast. (Mismatched the two beers blind)

German Festbier Battle. Still working through these and I think they are great year-round. First is Weihenstephaner. Pretty much the Gold-standard for a festbier. Mild honeyflower flavors.
Next is Andechs. Nearly identical, but slightly drier and more yeasty carbonation. Drinking well, but slight preference to Weihenstephaner here.
Winner: Weihenstephaner

 

1) Drekker Doomsday Device (8.3% canned 10/27/24): A NEIPA from North Dakota with Mosaic for flavors of dank orange, tropical berries, blueberries, mango juice.
versus
2) Drekker Truly, Madly, Deeply (8.2% canned 11/4/24): A NEIPA from North Dakota with Simcoe Cryo, Citra Cryo, Citra and HBC 586 for flavors of grapefruit, passionfruit, pineapple, tropical mango/melon. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

Back to Back posts I suppose. Drekker IPA Battle. First is Doomsday Device. All Mosaic and a favorite of mine. Tropical melon, berries, orange, with some nice berry flower notes. They've got the Mosaic dialed in here.
Next is Truly, Madly, Deeply. Citra, Simcoe plus some of that great HBC586, which apparently finally got a name of Krush. Great citrus, white grape, guava flavors. Some tropical notes underneath from the Simcoe, but still clean and citrusy.
Drekker has been dialing it in lately as some of their newer IPAs have been beating out my favorites. Over the past couple of years I'm becoming more and more impressed at the quality of their NEIPAs.
Winner: Truly, Madly, Deeply
