This is from a brewery in Madison, Wisconsin. 13.9% ABV. This is pretty good. Like it says on the can, "molasses/raisin/malty." That about sums it up.

Perepllut from Blindman Brewing in Alberta. Prerpllut apparently comes from the Slavic word "rogue". Also the name of the ancient god of water, soil, and fertility of the earth. I like when beer names have some fun meanings. A fantastic barleywine!

It’s holding up alright - not sure if as well as the original brand. If you’re interested, one can find its way out to you.

    Christmas’s lineup-
    [IMG]
St. Paul Brewing - Winter Warlock English golden barleywine, barrel aged. I loved the base beer. This seems to have been aged in rye barrels which definitely made it spiced right for Christmas, though not entirely to my preference.

Town Hall Brewery - Twisted Trace double barrel barleywine. From last February. Damn. This is how you do them. The prime rib was kind of ruined but thanks to the mood-happinessing properties of BARLEYWINE, I am pretty sure few attendees were even capable of noticing.

Having a big from Alpha Acid. Fermented with tart cherry juice then aged in bourbon and cherry brandy barrels.

I had fears of barrel aged cough syrup style sadness but this works well. Plenty of sticky barleywine sweetness and lots of pleasantly bruising booze compliment the tart cherries nicely. 18% ain't shy but I'm really liking this one.

Cedar from Humble Forager. 14% ABV. A blend of 33-month-old barrel-aged English Barleywine. Extended aging in Buffalo Trace, Heaven Hill, and Willett Rye barrels.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours dark brown. Nose is burnet sugar, toffee, vanilla, oak, bourbon, and maybe a hint of maple.

The taste is really interesting. Almost a pine note from the start. Floral, vanilla, oak, leather, burnt toffee, slightly medicinal, herbal, fig, cherry, and a hint of mint.

Body is medium with an oaky herbal aftertaste.

    How hot is the barrel?

Double Barrel Syzygy from Temporal Artisan Ales in Vancouver. This is a barleywine aged in a Heaven Hill bourbon barrel for 16 months and then aged in an Old Fitzgerald wheated bourbon barrel for an additional year. 14.79% ABV and one of 400 bottles.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a murky brown with almost zero head. The nose is very bourbon forward, which makes sense given the amount of time aged. Rich toffee, figs, raisins, vanilla, light brown sugar, and a bit of stone fruit. Super smooth.

The taste is equally as boozy as the nose suggested. But it's not hot - just a really nice intense barrel character that is also quite smooth. Compliments the toffee and fruit really nicely. A bit of brown sugar, apricot, strawberry jam, vanilla, and a lot of malts. Crazy how smooth this is for a beer that is basically 15% ABV.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and the aftertaste is bourbon and toffee. Lovely beer overall.

Revisiting Brew 6000, my last bottle.

I can't say that I'm able to discern any changes in two and a half years, my original review still rings true. Unsurprisingly this is still great. Honey dripping over figs and raisins alongside a stiff measure of high caliber bourbon. There is some molasses and toffee in there as well as a lovely vanilla note. Like I said originally, joy in a bottle.
