In the greater Chicagoland area, there are a TON of breweries, even with so many closing last year. Some are notable. Many are not. Doesn't mean we can't discuss those less notable breweries from time to time.

Link to last year's thread: https://www.beeradvocate.com/commun...-that-dont-need-their-own-thread-2024.675789/

And, in the spirit of this thread, I recently had a marzen (Monte Marzen) from Moderne Dune, a fancy-pants brewery in Chicago that claims to be a "Modern Brewery Concept", whatever that means.

The beer was borderline undrinkable; have you ever had an Oktoberfest with strong tangy lemon notes? If not, god bless you, I hope you never do.

I believe Moderne Dune is the "clean" side of Duneyrr Fermenta, sounds like some of their bad bugs got into the Marzen. Shocking.

Been digging a lot of Moderne Dune's brews this year. But recently had their Rogue Rabbit Altbier and it was by far the worst brew I had in 2024.

Wasn't that location previously "Motor Row Brewing" or something? Went there once and their beers were basically boring home brew - Motor Row that is, no experience with Moderne Dune.

Love that Funkytown projects their revenue going from 500k to 5 million "and eventually much higher".
Craft beer never ceases making me giggle.

I dunno how well they'll do since it's always really hard to predict who succeeds in this industry, but that strikes me as a pretty great location for Funkytown. It's a pretty diverse area demographically; I'd imagine they'll take well to a Black-owned/brewed brewery and I have to think that they'll get some nice business from United Center events if they're smart.

And they're banking on that multi-billion dollar United Center development (1000s of new apartments, new hotels, and concert venues.) So if they can buy the building and hold out that long....they'll be the first ones in that area especially with All Rise going down

And there's a brand new apartment building on the SouthWest corner of Ashland & Lake... yupsters are pushing further out from The Mall, ahem, West Loop.

That portion of the Kinzie Industrial Corridor is pretty much no man's land. Sure it could change in the next 10+ years but most people skip over that area going back to The Loop to stay, or skirt back to the burbs.

I picked up a 4 pack of the Moderne Pilsner when I was in Chicago for Rare Day. I thought I was drinking a weird Belgian Pale. Starting to make sense!

Shame, I thought a rare beer sale at Binnys would just be them selling off their gigantic supply of GI Rares….

Noon Whistle will be having their 10 year anniversary party at both locations this Saturday. Man does time fly in craft beer years, I remember when it was just the small Lombard tap room next to Whirleyball!

Dang! If my beer fridge wasn't already stocked I would be all over this.

Huge expansion on tap planned by Spring 2026 for Maplewood’s taproom, including bringing back their kitchen / food after the large catering business they shared the building with has moved out.

Not a brewery, but in the same neighborhood. DMen Tap (Belmont just west of Elston / California) is celebrating their 8th anniversary tonight.

A few 3 Floyd’s seasonals always on tap plus other draft selections, full bar, good food including doner. Worth a stop, or a pub crawl with The Beer Temple, Revolution, Frank & Mary’s, Maplewood and Kuma’s Corner nearby.

You can buy bottles directly on Oznr for pickup. No need to get the $5 ticket. The ticket is if you want to go to the event & get draft pours. Bottle pickups are separate.

Looks to me like you're reading it correctly. It gets even worse, tho. There's a $2.18 Eventbrite fee and 75¢ sales tax charge. To be fair, the 75¢ sales tax is unavoidable by all parties. But a 43% processing fee, for a ticket that only lets you walk thru a door??? No thank you!
