In 2020 Bruery did a special box set of 8oz Black Tuesday Reserve variant cans in lieu of the BT party. They were in fact amazing. The beer and the format. Thanks for blazing the trail!

Unfortunately, when I asked about it a couple years ago they said no plans to do again. Too much of a pain. They must have rented a mobile canner or something. But, they've just switched everything to 375ml bottles, so that's nice.

I would guess you’re probably right. The equipment would’ve needed a massive retrofit to be able to seam those small cans. I have no idea what type of can filler they’re running now (if it’s even changed), but in 2020 it would’ve still been the same one I worked on.

The switch to small bottles was a bit of a surprise when I read about it. But a welcome one.

I’ve got another one! Breweries without an updated tap list on their website or Untappd page drives me nuts.

I agree. Something I learned a year or so ago when one of my local's no longer had their beer list on their website....he said it (and I may not have this down correctly) was due to a disability lawyer that filed suit against them. Most breweries around here used to have tap lists or a webcam of their serving board/list. There are requirements in disability law that state these things need to be in multiple formats (I think he said 3 formats) for accessibility (viewing access) to those with disabilities. I don't know squat about website hosting/design but I got the jist that the cost to modify a site to include these tap lists in 3 different formats was double or triple of paying the fine, removing the tap list view. The same lawyer hit all my locals, so even larger spots like Pizzaport no longer list.....they have a link to a tap cam, but the link is dead. So, we may have a lawyer or two to thank for us no longer having updated tap lists. As stated above, I may not have all this straight as this conversation was at least a year ago, but around the same time I did notice that most of my locals no longer had that on their websites.

Off topic but hoping to ask given your experience. I have some old stouts and porters that have sat in my fridge for awhile. By awhile, I mean like 10 years. 2013/2014 Black Tuesday, Parabola, Darkstar Nov, Velvet Merkin. Are these still any good or will they be too boozy?

there's a better chance they'll be good on account of refrigeration.

They should be fine. Beachwood’s Pizza joint had their 2nd year anniversary a while back and I brought one of my older System Of A Stout bottles, 2014 bottle I think. Or maybe it was 8 years old. Shared the bottle with whoever was at the bar sitting. No problems. Everyone loved it.

It sounds plausible and there have been definitely examples of disability lawyers abusing the laws (not necessarily this case, but at least one was in the news in the past couple years in the SF Bay Area). However, I don't see that in other parts of California. Also, it seems to be a lazy excuse not to add the additional formats. By having them, you are going to get at least a few more people coming to your brewery.

If I can't find the tap list on their web site, I'm not going.

Thanks Gents. I’m just not into those sugary malty beers, which is why they’ve been in my fridge for a decade. Reach out if anyone’s interested in them.

Bruery taproom not posting prices for pours. Didn't visit the taproom once last year as Hoarder because of that.

A similar thing happened to a small business in LA county a couple years ago that sells wetshaving gear (razors, brushes, soaps etc). Led to them being down for a while as well as an associated web forum. That is some real bottom-feeding business practice if you ask me.

In my experience, they don't get more boozy, they get more mellow. They probably taste pretty good if you've kept them cold the whole time.

There was a recent change in ADA-type laws that requires sites to have the other options. Our company had to add them. I've since seen the same thing on other retail sites. We must all be using the same third-party provider for it because it looks the same on other sites.

I'm not sure what that has to do with providing tap list info in some way, shape, or form, though.

On that tap list online topic.....Vista has 17 breweries from my understanding. I looked up 10 of them, only 1 had a "Current on tap list". 6 listed "core beers" made that are usually available (along with others not listed) and 3 had a link to tap lists that were not active. The one with the current tap list would be the one I think has the most amount of funding; the 3 with nothing clearly listed would be the 3 I would think are the smallest/least funded. 3 without active lists are also locations that I was told were visited by the ADA lawyer sometime early last year. My guess as to why 1 has an active list is purely a guess based on their size/portfolio/alternate locations, so it really only is my best reasonable guess.

Hey partner i guess we have met, I enjoyed some of that stout. My buddy and I who have been to every Beachwood anniversary were sitting at the other end of the bar by the tv and got a pour.
I came over and thanked you. I'll see you at the next one.
