New start time for WBAYDN! (Reverted)

I'm a bit skeptical of this change. I wouldn't be surprised if a number of people from the core time zones will stop posting somewhere between 6 and 7PM east coast time because they'll feel no one is going to see the post and be able to respond to it. If that happens, is there a slippery slope to more non-posts?

Obviously, time will tell, and I am often wrong.

I think not interrupting the existing main posting times of 4pm-9pm east coast time would be ideal, which leaves about 19 or so other start times. If I were to pick a new time, I think noon GMT (4-5PM east coast) would be my choice. The morning/afternoon conversations in most WBAYDN threads would then be the equivalent of LNBA (thread-wise).

All that said, I am curious how this experiment will go.

 

I like the idea and delivery so far. My first impressions are to suggest adjusting the time a couple hours earlier for the US folk. The 4/6/7PM timezone for pacific/central/eastern is alright, but sort of abruptly splits the evening in half for a lot of US folks. A couple hours earlier would set it at 2/4/5 pacific/central/eastern. Then every evening after 5, even eastern, would be under one umbrella. Don't know if it's perfect, but 5 o'clock PM is sort of a universal start to the beer time, just an idea.

 

That's my one concern but I tend to drop off before dinner Eastern time, so it doesn't affect my participation unless the thread dies everyday an hour after I post.

One question for the BA collective (which I suspect will get shouted down): does WBAYDN need to be a daily thread? Could we change and hold each one open for a week instead to keep the conversation going from day to day?

 

The thread can be slow to load on mobile as it is. Once a week, and it wouldn't load at all.

 

I fully suspect as much! But with so many today complaining and saying how the start time is arbitrary, one has to ask whether being daily is also arbitrary. If it is, and if that daily break is negatively affecting the purpose (share beer photos and build camaraderie among BAs), then entertaining other forms is warranted.

No quite. It only loads one page at a time, doesn't matter how many pages there are. Load time is dependent on your Internet connection speed, the responsiveness of all the third-party image hosts, and the size of embedded images.

 

All I know is what I see. And the more pages, the slower each loads. On both laptop and mobile, but it's noticeably worse on the phone.

 

Huh, I'm not sure what would cause that, but with that behavior then yeah, this would be a terrible change.

 

The time change for WBAYDN will definitely take a bit to adjust to, but it's nothing that good beer can't alleviate in the meantime

I don't understand the new change. I can roll with whatever, however to me it makes the most sense the have the start time 12:00:01 AM for the area that has the most active users. This may not be the most popular take, but who knows. Either way I am here to stay.

 

Yeah, I don't see it really increasing usage. Are there just hordes of non-Americans waiting to sign up and use the site, that are just waiting for a couple threads to have their start times adjusted?
