According to Google maps they are still open. How much longer? News articles says a month or 2 after announcing they were going to close. So my guess is the end of this month. So what killed the 9 year old Brouwerji West? Was it the size of the venue? Belgian Ales? Mis-management? Their style of beers, mainly Belgian Ales? My first time there, I thought the place was huge for an independent brewery. I thought their beers were okay to good enough to drive from north OC. Probably visited them 10 times. There are a few places I’ve been to I thought the brewery was huge, Brewery X, Revision are a couple. I’m surprised BrewX is still in operation. Must be the advertising that’s keeping them brewing their less than mediocre beers.
Brewery X is mediocre but they're in an accessible location near other breweries and they're able to get their beers into Angel Stadium and Honda Center. As much as I do enjoy Brouwerij's beers, it's a pain going down to San Pedro. Although I don't know how much of a role taproom business plays in their finances vs distribution.
Yes it is a pain in the ass to get to and to drive back home. Reminds me of Naja’s. I’d hate driving out of the Redondo Beach pier going back home to north OC.
brewery x is always packed to the core on weekends. advertising and location aside, their outdoor setup is good for families with kids and the food options aren't too bad. they actually do a pretty good NY style pizza a shame their beer is absolute shit. and even worse, you see it pretty much everywhere these days
I haven't seen a Brourwerij West beer in north county for a long while, at least not my normal stop shops. I do see BreweryX freaking everywhere......at Trader Joes I think they carry 5-7 different beers from them. I'm regularly saying to staff "this stuff is awful, not sure why you carry it" and the most common response is "alot of people buy it, so we carry it."
Brewery X is like the clueless bro/dad/giga chad choice of beer when they want something "normal" It isn't pretentious, doesn't reek of beer snobbery , priced decent compared to other shit and run by THE THIN BLUE LINE,brotherrrrrrr.
This is not surprising in the least because the brewer that drove Noble into the ground after Evan left is one of owners/brewers of Villains. Absolute piss water.
i don't even consider villains to be a brewery. more like a restaurant that brews their own (very shitty) beer onsite
Which is unfortunate because I think he worked with Evan for years and you would think some of that would've rubbed off.
The bigger questions is, why hasn’t Evan brewed anything close to Tongue Tickles, Citra Showers, etc. at Green Cheek? A very good, but also overrated brewery because of this. And they also rarely brew New Adventures…
I’m with you. GC west coast is some of my favorite right now, but it would be nice to see Evan and crew brew some Shower series or TT. I’m sure Noble owns those recipes. So he would have to probably have to tweak the recipes. Evan & Brian turned Noble around back in the day. I’m surprised there still around.
if it wasn't for noble popping up in discussions here from time to time, i would forget that they even exist
the brewery website, which previously only stated a food truck schedule through January 31, now shows a food truck schedule through end of February, so looks like they are open for at least another month. I had a good time at the band night a couple weekends ago, and that kind of event is what I would miss the most if they are not able to stay open in their current location. I bought to-go Picnic Lightning hazy IPA that was canned on 1/15/25 so they are still brewing beer somewhere, if not at that site.
Sounds like the tasting room had a last day on March 2 and is closed. Their website says that beer will still be available in distribution, not quite sure if that just means whatever stock was already canned/kegged or if there’s stuff still being brewed somewhere…
