    Have a good Saturday, Advocates.
We often tend to talk mostly about what has positively surprised and amazed us.
Instead, today I will honestly talk to you about a beer that no longer exists and that has not resisted the passage of time as I thought.

Extraomnes (Varese, ITA) - WELTANSCHAUUNG Vintage 2013 - Oud Bruin (10%)

Historic Italian brewery, specialized in Belgian styles.
This was one of the beers that contributed to Schigi (Master brewer Luigi D'amelio) winning the Brewer of the Year award in 2013, together with the wonderful WALLONIE (Saison with Saaz hops), the QUADRUPEL, etc..
This is a 33 cl bottle of Vintage 2013 (at the time, it cost about €5...).
On the label: "Lot 235 13 - Best before: 08/31/2023"
It's an Oud Bruin style beer aged 20 months in barrels that had previously hosted red wine.
    Only a thousand bottles produced.
    Brown. No foam. 6%.
On the nose vinegar, red fruit and ash in the background
    No body...no carbonation.
In the mouth slightly liqueur and woody notes, then licorice emerges which is the main scent that I detect, together with red fruit in alcohol.
Sweet and alcoholic hints that recall Marsala wine, with these flavours that recall candied fruit and red fruits (cherry, black cherry) in alcohol.
The acidic note is light and fast, like all beer that has lost a little (a lot) of its body and with this also a little (a lot) of its complexity.
Soft finish, with slightly dried tongue.
After a while from drinking it in my mouth I am left with a soft part that reminds me of chestnut and a more sour part of bark.
Completely distorted alcohol content... 10% imperceptible.
Having memories of when I drank it "younger", I feel I can say that more than it has lost a good part of its complexity both in terms of body and taste and that it has definitely taken the direction of a Marsala wine.

Too early for a beer - I'm still working on a cup of dark roast Sumatran coffee. :sunglasses:

Today is the day for our next scheduled BA Beer Zoom session at 8 pm EST. I don't know what the sports schedule looks like today and how that would affect participation, but if you're interested in meeting via Zoom this evening, let me know and I will post the link to the session later today.

If there's not enough interest then it will be postponed to another time. We had fun on the last one and it was great to be able to meet folks and talk in real time, albeit virtually.

    Cheers!!

...sorry to hear the old beer didn't hold up well over the years...some beers (and beer styles) do a pretty good job of aging, others, well, they wind up like your experience...

Good day BAs! Thanks, @Shanex, for opening the bar. Lewd is a good reason to translate, not a reason NOT to! @Jack_14, I love your reviews! I see this was a capped bottle - could it be slightly rusted and therefore allowed the beer to become oxidized? A dried cork should allow the same fate.

    Today's New Breakfast Beer:

Final impression and summation: 4 Ho-hum. Another coffee stout. At least the ethanol is well hidden. Distinctly overpriced.
    Rating 4, rDev -1.7%

    I agree.
It could certainly have contributed to the evanescence, but without adding metallic and ferrous hints.
Anyway... it was brought to the strenuous of its time.
Although kept well in the cellar, I do not believe it was conceived for such a long aging.

Pleasantly surprised to find Maine Beer Co - Woods & Waters at my grocery store! Don’t usually see them distributed in Texas. Usually only get this treat when I’m visiting the In-laws in Massachusetts.

To celebrate, I’ll drink from my Woodman’s glass. Possibly my favorite seafood restaurant. In Essex, Mass.
