Been waiting for @LeinenkugelDrinker to post the newest iteration of this thread  but since it hasn't happened quite yet, I don't mind taking the reigns and getting 'er going!

For all my fellow Mountain Region BAs and BAs drinking mountain region beer, this thread's for you! Let us know what you're drinking and feel free to post a pic and/or some notes. States included here are Colorado, Montana, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Arizona, and New Mexico.

I'm kicking things off with some of this:

Red Lodge Ales - Dually dipa

I’m surprised no one started it sooner! I’ve been buying too many Euro-brews lately, I need to grab some locals. Beautiful picture :beers:

Wait, did we take New Mexico back from the Southwest group? Personal opinion, we're a better fit.

Really enjoy this take on Cold Smoke- nicely-balanced coffee and scotch ale elements, with great drinkability! Look forward to it every year :beers:

It had some chocolate and coffee notes, but hard to pick up through the malt. Only my second Baltic Porter, so I didn’t know exactly what to expect, but it wasn’t my favorite.

River North Brewery / Hammond's Candies -- Candy Cane
Imperial porter brewed with peppermint & chocolate
ABV: 11.0%; pouring temperature: 49.6 °F; bottling info: Vintage 2024
    Source: local purchase

    look: 3.5 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.75

Reddish-brown pour, clear, opaque brown in the glass; fizzy, dissipating head, light tan color, leaves a small ring on top of the beer. Rich, dark chocolate aroma offset with notes of mint and peppermint; coffee. Bold flavors; dark cocoa powder and dark roast coffee; peppermint.

I can't tell if it's the peppermint that gives the overall taste a bit of phenol bite and harshness, but it likely is the peppermint candy. There is no mention of coffee in the beer, either, but I certainly get the impression of coffee. All in all, the aroma is the high-point of the beer and the taste, well, I wavered between a 3.75 or 4.0, but with the somewhat odd flavor bite, I opted for the lower rating. It's still a great beer overall, but one should like mint and peppermint to fully appreciate it.

    Working on some of this:

    Kettlehouse - Shady NE-Style IPA

A flavorful and drinkable hazy with good melon and stone fruit presence. Juicy, with a touch of dryness in the finish.

This one has become my go-to BA imperial stout over the past couple years..

    Kettlehouse - Barrel-Aged Freezeout

Excellent blend of chocolate, roast, nuttiness, barrel, and whiskey. The 12% abv warms a bit, but overall, it's one deceptively smooth imperial stout (and for $16 a 4-pack at my local shop, I can't complain one bit!:beers:)

How are the Bayern beers, anyway? I was unfamiliar with 'em, but it seems like they've been around forever and they're (mostly) going for authentic south German beers.

The brews are kind of hit and miss, imo. I really dig the doppelbock and anniversary pilsner (the St Walter hefeweizen and maibock aren't bad as well), but I've found some of the others to be underwhelming.

With that being said, the owner/master brewer will tap firkins of their brews at some of the local beer festivals (donned in traditional German garb, no less ), which is pretty cool. Still need to get to their taproom one of these days so I can draw a full conclusion :beers:

    Just finished one of these:

Smelter City - Road to Wisdom IPA

Despite the cool vintage-style labels for this brew, the cans have been really inconsistent. The one I had today was enjoyable, however there were a couple in the 6-pack that were verging on a drain-pour :grimacing: Hoping they get it dialed in!

Good to know. There aren't too many places that have been around that long. Especially not ones sporting a theme that would have been pretty uncool during the IBU/ABV wars. Their bottle art still looks straight out of 2002, which I dig. I don't really have a reason to ever be up that way, but I'll keep an eye out if I ever end up in MT.

This is my first Blonde NV made by Revision Brewing in Sparks. It’s very solid, the best Blonde I’ve had in a long while. Inviting scent of bread and butter. Taste has a lot of butter upfront but finishes with some grassy hops. I’d recommend trying this brew if you ever see it.
    :beers:
