First barrel aged release of the year, so time to make the thread. From the description, seems like they are trying to make some “lighter” barrel aged offerings that aren’t straight syrup. I’m interested to see the results.

    Kentucky Hugs Stout 2024
A bit after brewing Kentucky Hugs Barleywine, we thought of an idea to pair it with a stout. When I got into brewing, I was absolutely captivated by the stouts and barleywines coming out of the beautiful city that is Chicago. For this project, I wanted to create a set that paired together that could introduce people to our barrel program. These beers are meant to be a little bit more restrained, slightly lighter on the palate, more approachable to a novice drinker, but still very much appreciated by our most hardcore fans. This stout is just that. Notes of chocolate, vanilla, tobacco, and American whiskey.

    Kentucky Hugs Barleywine 2024
19 months ago we conceptualized a barleywine that would complement what has become one of our most sought-after beers, Arabesque. While Arabesque takes barleywine to the extreme utilizing a pretty complex grain bill and going on the high end of the SRM scale for color, we took a more simplistic approach with Kentucky Hugs. This more traditional barleywine is made up of maris otter base malt, with just three different caramel malts on top of it. Aged for 19 months in younger Heaven Hill bourbon casks, this barleywine is focused more on caramel and nuanced barrel character. It's simple, it's in a can, and it's paired with a beautiful stout for a perfect evening.

The Kentucky Hugs (2024) pack contains four (4) 12oz cans - two (2) cans each of the barleywine (13.7% ABV) and stout (14.3% ABV). Limit two (2) packs per person. $60 per 4 pack on Oznr. For the non-ambassadors, this will likely be going on sale or lotto next Wednesday on Oznr.

Assume these went on sale today? Saw a IG post about the pickup window but nothing else.

For the public? No. Per the Facebook, "the Public First Come, First Serve sale will begin tomorrow, Thursday January 23rd at 12pm on the Lake Zurich AND Elmhurst Oznr pages".

I wanted to follow up from my saga late last year in attempting to pick-up my Ambassador Eunoia 19 bottles. As a brief refresher, the Elmherst site did not have my bottles available during the regular pick-up window, and I was afforded an extra week after official closing pick-up period, by Lauren, after I reached out a couple of times.

Since then, a couple more e-mails with Lauren were exchanged because I was not able to pick-up my bottles with that one additional week she provided. Shortly after that Shaun reached out to me directly. His response and apology for the issue(s) were very thoughtful and appreciated after some questionable communication prior to that. Also, he went way above and beyond to make up for the issue(s) I had to that point, where I was pushing back and questioning whether he needed to go so far above to make up for the unfortunate inconvenience. But he stuck with it and wanted me to accept it.

So, thank you to Shaun specifically. I will carry on being a customer because of his involvement and motivation to help me. Had it not been for him getting involved, I believe my sentiments would be different today.

Glad things were made right for you and the issue(s) addressed by the appropriate individual. Appreciate the follow up as I know from my own experience I can forget to applaud a place when they make corrections after an initial mistake. Cheers!

How does everyone feel about Kentucky Hugs? It seems they aren’t selling out.

This is what bothers me. Shaun should not have to get involved in a situation like this as it should be handled properly by Lauren. That's part of her job, to help members, but it seems she gets way too hung up on the "rules" and makes things worse. Customer service goes a long way so I hope that Shaun's intervention led to some discussions with the P3 team as to how to handle situations like this going forward. It's great he stepped up and helped bring this to a satisfactory conclusion but it makes the staff look bad.

So, not sure if the @eppie82 incident was the straw that broke the camel’s back but it appears Lauren has been fired as she is no longer a part of the Ambassador group on FB and another team member (Gavin) did the Ambassador post/email this morning about Apres (their sour collab with Casey). There were also FB complaints about the staff not honoring the 20% off to go beer, this past week because they were not aware of the program, so surely @eppie82’s situation was not an isolated incident in recent weeks.

Picked these up and tried them over the weekend. The membership never made sense for me (seldom make it to the burbs) so I haven’t had a lot of BA Phase Three, but I was super impressed by the barleywine which was pleasantly boozey caramel. Not so much a fan of the stout, where the spirit character somehow felt poorly integrated and with the beer itself too sweet and sticky.

Where all has it seen distro? I saw that Beer Temple got it. I don't suppose there's enough to make it to Binny's, or at least it's not in their system yet.

Picked up Kentucky Hugs at P3 Elmhurst today. They also had Minutiae and Quad for sale to go. Nice little surprise.

Cracked open the Kentucky Hugs BA stout this evening. I enjoyed it. Nothing earth shattering, certainly, but a very nice BA stout imo. The beer description mentions it being slightly lighter on the palate. I mean how light can a 14% ABV BA stout be but I thought this was spot on for me fwiw.

Haven't had the BW yet but I will say I'm a fan of the mixed 4 pack release approach which was done here. I'd like to think Chuck would agree.

    **Kastalia**.

We partnered up with our friends at Binny’s, one our very first retail partners we ever worked with when we started distributing beer back in April of 2019 to create this big stout that was aged for 29 months in Binny’s store pick Buffalo Trace Weller Bourbon barrels. Our signature stout with notes of chocolate and roast, with the smooth characteristic heat and smooth bourbon notes along with distinct char from the long age time in casks. No adjuncts, no flavors added. Just a great beer aged in great barrels.

    —-

Limited availability for ambassadors (not enough for everyone, first come first serve on Oznr now). Will also be available at Binny’s.

yeah, between this, a mixed culture beer and the Kentucky hugs (also non-adjuncted), I'm liking the direction. I was hesitant to go ambassador this year because of their typical heavily adjunctive stuff, but like the direction this is going..
