Only double barrel? They’be set the bar too high. Double seems kind of low.

Question for the locals. I'll be coming to the area at the end of April for a beercation that will involve a stop at Half Acre as I've never visited and they are high on my list. I see per the beer menu they have the Weekly (predetermined) flight and then various 10/16/20oz and 5/8oz pour options. Are you able to do just 5oz pours of anything on the menu/make your own flight or is what you see on the menu your options?

I believe this will be our first stop for open on a Saturday; any tips to make this a great visit to the taproom? How would you rate the food?

Any advice appreciated; thank you kindly.

The staff is very easy to work with at Half Acre; as long as you're not trying to get a 'deal' I'd bet they'll work with you on the flight.

For what it's worth I think the food is well above the usual 'bar food' fare you see at breweries. Make sure to get the Lumpia Shanghai!

Awesome! Not trying to pull a scam or screw them out of money; I'd just like the option to build a flight of my own choosing or to be able to get 5oz pours of beers so I can try a nice variety of their offerings. Thanks!

Honestly every taproom should have a flight option as long as they're not really slammed. It's a better option than having people ask if they can have "a taste" of a bunch of beers, and it's more fun than getting stuck with a pint of something you may or may not want to finish.

(plus, who doesn't like ticking beers)

Yeah, but how do you offer flights but only "sometimes"? Is it like the Hot Donut light at Krispy Kreme? If the light is on, flights are fine?

Nah I was just hedging my bets in case someone had an argument as to why some places don't offer them, but I always want flights wherever/whenever I go lol. I'll just apologize to the server when I order 'em, if I think it's a pain in their ass.

No one should apologize for flights. Businesses should charge the appropriate amount for them. If a server gets an extra buck per flight and can fill 60 flights in an hour they are doing pretty well…

Aren’t people scared of flights these days? I hear we have unqualified people managing the flights….

Taproom staff absolutely hate pouring, serving and explaining flights.
Ask some next time you have a chance.

I enjoy watching a hipster server explaining 4 beers over and over again to some clueless boomer. Gets my giggles goin'.

It is what it is; if they only do the 5oz size for their predetermined flights then we'll likely just have a pour of something and move along. Plenty of places on our list that do flights; got to make smart choices with my limited sobreity! LOL Looking forward to the visit; they're not all that far away from where I live just haven't made it down.

While I totally hear you on that, pouring and explaining beer is part of what separates a brewery from a bar. Again, I am sure there are 1000 annoyances that go along with it but it is part of the job

Yeah I usually say "sorry, I'm gonna be annoying and order a flight" but I'm not asking for explanations lol

Man, there should be no shame in flights. If I go to a brewery I’ve never been to I always look for one. I want to try their beer and find what I like… as mentioned not commit to 12 oz. Plus, I can’t drink 4x 12 oz beer and drive home safely… but can certainly do 4x 5 oz. I get it PIA… but necessary. End of the day, it’s marked up so brewery and server make more…

    How about this?

Is the brewery PACKED TO THE GILLS, with long waits just to get a single beer? You probably shouldn't get a flight.

Is the wait time at a brewery very reasonable, with only a minute or two before you're served? Go ahead & get a flight.

Some of this is just common sense...which admittedly is in short supply these days.

Agreed, release day at a brewery don’t order a flight (most probably wouldn’t let you), but if the seats are full on a regular Saturday I’d still pull the trigger.

I disagree. If flights are offered, flights are fair game anytime. If it’s a packed brewpub should I not order an appetizers or a certain food item I want because it takes longer to cook and delays table turn around?
