Good evening denizens of NBW! Had to pull out a cellar beer because it’s Cellaruary, but also had to be new to me.
    2021 version.
The pour was stout black with a 1 cm light brown head. Rings of lacing was a good sign.
The taste struck me as far more roasty than I expected from a 4 year old BBA Imperial Stout. Strong French Roast flavor leads with waves of chocolate and dark fruit, oak is actually more evident than the bourbon. One of the least “sweet” BBA Imperial Stouts I’ve tried.
The feel is curious, not bad at all, but not as viscous as expected.
OA, the only thing that I can think that would make this better is a bigger bottle.
Cheers all! Have an annual bonfire tomorrow so might not have a new one for Saturday. If not, I’ll definitely be back Sunday.

    Another bruiser from @Blogjackets

Jackie O's Wood Ya Honey BA Wheat Wine with honey 12.7% ABV; 4.1 overall

Pours an effervescent & somewhat ruddy Chestnut color with a thumb of fast fading tan /mocha head. Some head retention & lacing

S: Bourbon barrel, dark fruit, a little leather once warmed up, & sweet boozy notes

T: Follows the nose, plenty of barrel, also dryness from the honey, plenty of figs & jammyness, plus woody hops up front. More figs, some dark cherry, & leafy hops mix in with barrel as this beer warms up. Finishes dry (honey ) with figs, dark cherry, some barrel rawness & leafy hops

MF: Medium body, some carbonation, not a lot, warming notes. Carbonation is a little still, brings some warmth, more malt depth please!

Delivers the flavor & nose, but lack of carbonation brings this down, doesn't push the flavor along

Thanks to @Victory_Sabre1973 (and almost @superspak ) for getting us started this weekend. My first beer is Coconut Pie Face from Revision. Imperial stout with coconut, cacao nibs and vanilla. 11.7% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a very thick and viscous black. Very little head. The nose is bursting with vanilla ice cream, chocolate, light coconut, tons of malts, cookie batter, and milk duds. Very smooth on the nose.

The taste is crazy good. Getting the vanilla and cacao nibs here, but also some red licorice, roasted malts, slight coffee grounds, molasses, slightly vinous, coconut, malt balls, and a bit of caramel. Really nice.

The mouthfeel is pretty thick and creamy, but not as thick as some of them out there. The aftertaste is sweet caramel and vanilla. Great beer overall. If you like pastry stouts, this is definitely one that should be on your list!

Starting the weekend with a beer from Fat Heads Brewery in Ohio. This is barrel aged doppelbock, the old fashioned inspired version. Beer registers 10.3%.

    onto my review:
Im sampling a cellar temp 12 oz can of this beer. Purchased at a beer shop in Pennsylvania over Christmas Holiday. Date stamp on can is difficult to read, but looks like 10/03//2024.
Pouring the beer into my snifter.
The beer gushes a little on the can popping open. Didnt expect that and made my table a mess. Lost about 1.5 oz. Not a great start.
The beer pours a clear mahogany color with a creamy khaki colored head of almost 3 cm foaming up from the pour. This foam slowly fades to a sturdy edging and leaves some windowpane lattice.
Aroma on the beer is toffee, sweet bourbon, some light cherry scent too. Not fusol nor boozy and no hint of hops on the nose.
First sip reveals a medium to light body with very smooth texture and fine tingly carbonation, feels a little more like soda than beer, especially the carbonation.
Flavor is similar to the nose, some toffee and bourbon with a little general sweetness and definitely some cherry notes here. Hops are absent and not boozy nor warm. Well hidden ABV. This is an interesting beer, and I think it hits the mark for old-fashioned inspired. Does lean more cocktail-esque than a beer to be honest. But Im still enjoying it.
    4.06 in the BA DB

4 Hands Brewing Co. Octohaze IPA, 7.0% ABV; 4.01 overall

Pours an effervescent & fairly hazed gold/honey with a thumb of beige colored head. Great lacing & average head retention.

S: Nectarines, oranges, passion fruit, fades a bit once warm

T: Follows the nose, some white grape, dryness, a little guava up front. Lime & dryness, tangerine also as this beer warms up, plus pineapple aplenty & a little vanilla. Finishes with pineapple, a little dryness, white grape & orange juice

MF: Medium body, a little gritty, low carbonation. Carbonation picks up a little bit as this beer warms up, some acidic notes, good balance

Easy to drink, delivers some juice. A little more body would've helped

I like the new (AI?) avatar, even if might take a little while to get used to.

Your description of the beer from the post I quoted has me both interested and scared - the flavors you note I would like, but I fear the sweetness attached to the terms you used

I'm still getting used to the new avatar, and I'm not against going back. I'll give it a bit of time. I actually didn't think this one was too sweet. Some are, but I didn't get that from this one.

An Enegren weekend would be fine with me-- here is the American Reinheitsgebot Helles (Bierstadt - 2024)

Nice pile of foam in the tall Pilsner glass and clear amber brew. Taste is the classic Helles warm, malty cereal with a kiss of hops and a spicy note. A flavor like cookies but not overly sugary. Perfectly drinkable, light bodied, and endowed with a smooth, slightly sweet finish. This is one for the steins!

I stopped watching the NFL last millennium, but I’m pretty sure Taylor’s promotional contract with the league gives Swift final say as to which team will win and allows her to select the MVP.

I can envision her conducting the coin toss including a staged breakup and something like this going down. Followed by a double CD release at the NFL Draft covering all the drama and heartbreak.

Halo Brewery's Time Capsule Batch 1

Poured a 250ml can into a tulip. A one finger fine white head on a cloudy yellow apricot. Good head retention, eventually diminishing to a ring. Some patchy, fine lacing.

Fairly strong aroma. Some funk. Fruit. Lots going on. Apricot. The taste follows the nose. Brett. Some citrus notes. Sweetish up front. A long mildly sour finish. More citrus as it warms.

A medium light body and carbonation. Overall a fine Wild Ale.. Smooth and well melded. A fine sipping beer and well worth a try.

Good day BAs! I'll go back after I post and read the previous posts - this starting at the previous day/evening has got me totally messed up chronologically. Anyway, it's a dreary Saturday morning here on the tundra of NW PA and I've got to find something solid to consume to break my overnight fast. My beer, however:

Bourbon Barrel Barley Barge from Jackie O’s. 12.7 fl oz capped bottle. Picked up from Jackie O’s online, Athens, OH, date unknown. Reviewed 08/02/25 (Review 3451). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Undated bottle. Stored at 39 degrees F at home. Served at 53.7 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 56.4 degrees F.
    Appearance – 4
First pour – Deep Amber (SRM 15), clear.
Body – Brown (SRM 20), opaque. Under direct light, milk chocolate brown and large chunks of precipitate are visible. When rear-lite, amber at the edges.
Head: None (Aggressive center pour), just a brief 0.2 cm bubble ring. Gone almost instantly, leaving only a partial ring of tiny but active bubbles.
    Lacing – None
Aroma – 4.5 – Smooth bourbon hits first, followed by generic “dark fruits”. No hops, no yeast, no ethanol (12.6 % ABV, as marked on label). No disulfide or diacetyl.
Flavor – 4.5 – Begins sweet with distinctly smooth bourbon. No yeast, no hops, no ethanol. No disulfides, no diacetyl. Mild gastric warming initially, but it builds.
Palate – 4 – Full; bordering on syrupy; soft carbonation.
Style: Follows the style guidelines as condensed by BA.
Final impression and summation: 4 (After deducting 0.25 point for an undated personal container) Distinctly lacks the hoppiness of American style Barleywines – smooth, sweet, and easy drinking. The bourbon is subdued on the palate and the barrels fail to make an appearance. Well worth whatever I paid.
    Rating 4.32, rDev -2%

From a 16oz can. No date on the can.

This is a dark brown pouring beer with amber hues to it. The head is tan in color and 1 finger in size. The bubbles are small and the head retention is great. There's just a bit of lacing on the glass.
Aroma has a nutty character to it while pouring. Up close I still get the nuttiness but I also get a roasted malt aroma. The aroma is a bit light, but seems to increase a bit as the beer warms up.
The flavor is malty as expected. There's the nutty hit right away. The malts do taste slightly roasted. There's notes of caramel and toffee that show up. There's hints of a coffee flavor that also show up on the back.
Very smooth bodied. Somewhat creamy and soft feeling. Full bodied.
This is a well balanced beer and a tasty treat.

I will return later for another new beer. Cheers!
