You can get 4 bottles of Pliny, bottled on 10/30 shipped to your house for about $72, 2-3 day shipping, pricey yes, but if it for a milestone I do it. www.mybeercollectables.com
Oh interesting, Vann, thankfully, we get regular RR drops here in Colorado and it's usually pretty fresh, too, as it disappears pretty quickly. Cheers!
I know, and Heady/Focal too, jealous! We don't get much in FL, especially where I live. Getting Head Hunter has been great....cheers!!
I just quickly scanned through this thread and didn’t see anyone mention Elysian Space Dust or Hop Valley Alpha Centauri. These have great distribution all around the west and I assume that they are available nationally based on the size of their respective parent companies. Both are outstanding brews.
In Vermont, we don’t get Pliny much, but I argue Lawson’s Double Sunshine (better than Sip of Sunshine) is similar and justbas good. Triple Sunshine (10.5%) is also really good.
2X has a fair amount of malt sweetness mixed w/the pine and tongue numbing bitterness - but agree it checks most of OP’s boxes. Got a 4 pack Wednesday canned 2/3 at a WRJ grocery store and was pretty happy.
Bell's Hop Slam Dogfish Head 90 min Stone Double Bastard Sierra Nevada Torpedo I'm not an IPA drinker, but when I do have one, the styles you are referencing are what I prefer to drink, if I must. I also love English style IPA's of yore, but they are difficult for me to locate. I despise hazies and fruity IPA's. These are the ones that came to mind. I'm sure there's a poop-ton of them out there.
I see you're from New York. Have you tried Ommegang Cooper's Hop IPA³? I never had it, but it should be available to you. Ommegang used to make some fantastic Belgian inspired Ales. Dunno how their IPAs are though?
Smuttynose Finest Kind used to fit that bill but haven't had it in a long time...fresh Maharaja is incredible as well
Tastes like punishment to me, - little to no sweetness / fruit - no milk / lactose - bone dry - high IBU
I discussed this dry, bitter IPA in the NBW thread: Here is an Alpha beer For some reason when I see the word “alpha” I think of an alpha dog. And the old joke: If you aren’t the lead dog, the scenery never changes. But back to beer, today’s beer is Fat Head’s Alpha Ambush IPA. Below is how this beer is detailed on the Fat Head’s website: “Brewer's Notes Stealth Attack of Hops Incoming! Alpha Ambush is a West Coast warrior for Hop Heads who truly love those little green cones. Bright and lively, it encircles the senses with dank notes of pine and citrus until the only option is surrendering to its juicy deliciousness. Captitulation never tasted so good!” And: A stealth attack of hops! Alpha Ambush India Pale Ale January – April Beer Details ABV 7.5% IBU 75 OG–FG 16.8–2.7 Plato Hops: Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe, Sultana Malt: Crystal 15, Golden Naked Oats, Dextrapils, Pale Malt Yeast: American Ale Well, I am prepared to be ‘ambushed’ by hops, let’s see what this IPA tastes like. Served in my Spiegelau IPA Glass: Appearance: Golden yellow with a BIG fluffy white head. Aroma: A notable aroma which is mostly pine (resin) bit also some fruity/citrus and in the background some dank (diesel). Taste: The flavor follows the nose with mostly pine/resin flavors but also some citrus/fruity and a hint of dank (diesel). There is a notable bitterness. Mouthfeel Medium bodied with a dry finish. Overall This beer is excellent!! In my perfect world this would be a year-round beer for Fat Head’s brewery. Cheers!
