What Beer Are You Drinking Now? #4516

NBW and BAT cross-post. Three Floyds Brewing Pillar of Beasts. A barleywine brewed with coconut and salted caramel, and aged for 12 months in bourbon barrels. This is quite a unique barleywine experience. The caramel and coconut flavors battle for supremacy, which creates a memorable experience. One week before I host the ultimate BeerAdvocate bottle share and gathering on 7/18/25 and 7/19/25, I will be attending the ultimate metalcore event, the Summer of Loud tour, down the street from Lambeau Field, with @azuelke. I am only familiar with Killswitch Engage from the lineup, so I have a lot of studying to do. I can't imagine what bottles @azuelke has in mind to open before the show.

 

Damn. Terrible pic. Irish Red Ale at Rock solid Brewing in Ball Ground on GA Beer Day! I demolished a hot Italian sausage from a place across the street.

This beer is cleaner than a chicken in a car wash.

 

1) Utepils Loonar Eclipse (5.1%): A Czech Dark Lager from Minnesota with flavors of cocoa, dark chocolate, smooth bread notes.
versus
2) Little Thistle Mist & Shadow (4.5%): A Czech Dark Lager from Minnesota with flavors of dark graine, earthy, and roast. Clean and dry. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

Minnesota Czech Dark Lager Battle. First is Utepils. Dark cocoa and nicely smooth.
Next is Little Thistle. Similar, but slightly more grainy on the body.
Both are good, but Utepils has a more blended and smoothness to it. They've been making this a few years now and it's pretty good this year.
Winner: Utepils Loonar Eclipse.
