16 oz can into a pokal glass.
L: SRM 2 Pours straw dirty light yellow with a thin soapy white head that recedes to edge foam, medium steady carbo, light random spotty lacing.
S: A fruity note, grassy, a slight dank note, sweet caramel malts.
T: Gently floral, a hint of crusty bread, pear, a gently complex fruit mix, affably tart with a tangy finish. It has a long distance dank herbal note in the palate. The aftertaste has fairly bold melon rind & resin that linger.
F: Moderately crisp, wet and slightly juicy medium-light bodied feel with a medium-long fairly dry finish.
O: Curiously good and has WC hop presentation atop a lovely bready malt base. Well balanced and blended. Easy to drink and is refreshing. Not quite German but it is excellent in its style.

Purchased at Beer Bazaar, Hainesville, Illinois.
Thick black pour, no head, no lacing.
I used to give my Aunt Gloria, those little whiskey filled chocolates for Xmas when I was about 10 years old, that's what this smelled like, I wish this tasted that good.

Looking for something "light" while I make dinner after baseball practice. 2024 BA imperial stout from Pfriem. Only 375ml at 10% fits the bill! I continue to slowly pull myself out from under the rubble @snaotheus buried me in via the barleywine/big stout bif.

After one sip my first thought was, hell yeah, old school! While I prefer sweeter, high octane barleywines these days, nicely balanced big stouts like this are what I look for. Smooth roast with very little char, toasted nuts and coconut, mellow and well incorporated brown liquor, and a little bit of a hop bite at the finish. Excellent, most excellent, thanks Ryan!

Mineshaft black and opaque; thin and somewhat fizzy brown head. Beautiful aroma of sweet brownies and milk chocolate; very slim suggestion of mint. Incredibly balanced and complex taste; rich milk chocolate; vanilla; minor hints of dates and raisins; subliminal and refined whiskey undertone. Unbelievably smooth and silky mouthfeel; thick and chewy with a mild, powdery dryness slyly offsetting the residual sugars.

Crooked Stave brewers are master craftsman at the barrel aged imperial stout game. This particular beer presents their aptly displays this talent.

44 cl can depicts sunset surfers heading in. Bet they’re gonna be reaching for a can of this jewel from the cooler.
Pours hazy piss yellow with a finger of white foam up top.
Nose is a veritible fruit cornucopia of grapefruit, orange, lime, passion fruit and even lychee.
Taste follows admirably with the mix of Citra and Amarillo hops imparting a slight and welcome bitterness on the finish.
Mouth has an oily texture within its medium body, and carbonation runs medium.
Overall, one of the best French-made NEIPAs I have enjoyed.

Ok, had this last night. Figure that counts, right? Always considered the weekend started on Friday.
First thing that hits you is the marshmallow. Always a big fan of marshmallows, at least in concept. And this does it just right. There's a pillowy aroma that's then followed by the first part of the sip. It finishes with an (oddly) bite of hops, not quite expected with this kind of creamy drink. But good.
Am now on the lookout for more Tired Hands milk- shaky doubles and triples. Not sure if they're gonna compare; the can states this dude is " lactose- free". Unique for this style, but appreciated.

Tonite's offering, in real time. Saw someone on BA drinking this, caught my attention. I don't drink a lot of OMG, but Three Philosophers is an all- time fave. So, intrigued, needed to investigate.
OMG has their own way of doing things. This is a TIPA (10.5%) but not like what you'd expect with these ABV/hop bombs. The alcohol is deeply hidden (need to watch out). The hoppiness is just right, might be tempered by their Belgian yeast (I gotta believe). This is a strange one, but in a good way. First of a 4- pack and looking forward to the other three. Stranger and stranger with each sip. Already wondering if this will be readily available.

Lupulin - Barrel God Cuvee (2024)

11.1oz bottle served in a snulip. Bottled January 2024. Received yesterday from @bbtkd in NBS BIF #2.

Pours dark black, small head on the pour, eventually a thin ring and a couple wispy islands surface. Smell is huge, rich with cocoa and molasses, booze and a little charcoal, burnt toffee.

Taste is a wonderful echo of the aroma, with everything blended softly together. I get more of a chocolate ganache sense from it, something hazelnutty. Sweet with a coffee and chocolate semi-bitterness to balance.

Mouthfeel is thick, rich, smooth, somehow still not chewy. Very good beer.

Thanks to @mactrail for kicking things off this weekend! I'm starting with a beer sent to me by the amazing @micada as part of the barleywine/stout BIF. Strong ales are included since they are sometimes indistinguishable from barleywines. This is a great one. Kentucky Style Strong Ale from 3 Sons. Aged in both bourbon and rye whiskey barrels. Comes in at 9% ABV which, as you will see below, seems low for the taste!

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a very dark brown with minimal head. The nose is definitely barrel forward. Toffee, spice, vanilla, rye, plums, apricot, and maybe a slight hoppy note in there.

The taste is really nice. The rye really comes through here. Leather, dark fruit, burnt toffee, dirt, red wine, bourbon, slight vanilla, and a big oak presence. Really interesting! It's definitely a strong ale that is strongly influenced by the barrel. Comes across as higher ABV than it actually is, which I can't say happens that often.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied, and the aftertaste is rye and dark fruit. Really nice beer
overall. A huge thanks to Eric for sending this one!

Big and sweet, but this still comes across as American-ish to me. Burned caramel and sweet, sweet bourbon dominate with praline, vanilla, brown sugar, and very faint raisin lending support. The mouthfeel is satisfyingly sticky and still. Not subtle in any way, this beast is a lot of fun. Thanks Ryan!

Poured from a 16 oz can into a Terrapin Barrel Glass

Pours a dark brown (nearly black) color with ruby highlights. An aggressive pour yields about three fingers of foamy tan head that recedes quickly, leaving behind little to no lacing.

The aroma is all roasted malts and chocolate, with just a hint of vanilla

The flavor is roasty malts, lactose sweetness, and vanilla. As much as I search, I can't find any strawberry. Medium/light bodied and well carbonated

Overall, this is a decent attempt at a Neapolitan Ice Cream inspired stout

    SN Hop Tropical IPA

12oz can PKGD 122324 poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass at fridge temp 6.5% ABV per can. The beer pours bright, pale golden amber with nearly white head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles leaving a tight web of lacing behind. The aroma is moderate in strength featuring candied orange, peach, pineapple among a tropical fruit salad. The taste is bittersweet dank tropical fruit over a fairly neutral malt profile with strong finishing bitterness. The feel is thin to medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. There's a lingering hit of sticky resin, but almost no sugary component. Overall, pretty good which is no surprise from SN. Reminiscent of the retired SN southern hemisphere IPAs.

This Mystery beer from the NBW Imp Stout/Barleywine BIF#2 This Jackie O's Imperial Scouts BA Barleywine is from @Stoutofmymind

Aged for 15 months in Knob Creek Barrels & then another 8 in Sherry Casks, 14.0% ABV; 4.21 overall

Pours an effervescent & ruddy chestnut/mahogany with on finger of fast falling tan head. No real head retention or lacing, plenty viscous

S: Tons of dark fruit, plus plenty of booze & apricot/fig jam, great depth on this nose!

T: Follows the nose, more Sherry notes than Bourbon, plenty of barrel dryness & noticeable booze kiss, red grapes show as well up front. Figgyness, red grapes, with a booze/barrel edge, some leather notes & candied oranges/cherries on this beer once warmed up, traces of woody hops as well. Finishes dry, oaky. leathery, with plenty of red grape & figs & with a little of that Sherry Treacle sweetness

MF: Faily chewy, low-level carbonation, warming

Very complex with interesting flavors, a sipper to be sure. Sherry dominated this & that's not in my wheelhouse, but very enjoyable

Next new beer is also from @micada !! Tasting blind, but eventually revealed and continued to taste.

Pours a thick black. It's screaming stout already.

The nose is lactose, chocolate, vanilla, marshmallow. Comes across as a vanilla stout - maybe even a milk stout. I'm guessing no barrel aging, based on the nose.

The taste follows the nose. Lots of chocolate, roasted malts, vanilla, some roasted malts, almonds, and a hint of burnt toffee. Some coffee comes through with some warming, so I'm not ruling out a coffee vanilla stout. No question - this has to be vanilla!

I'm really enjoying this one. Great mouthfeel. I'm guessing a 8-9% ABV.

Based on all the praise I heard about the former glory of Pipeworks’ Barrel Aged Program, I bought a single of each can, regardless of whether the ingredients and/or barrels were ones I would normally pick up.

I reached similar conclusions for this coaco nibs infused version you did not enjoy today. That said, I really enjoyed their standard Bourbon BA Abduction and their Islay Whisky Cask Aged Abduction. YMMV, but perhaps consider picking up a single of either if you come across in the future.

Cheers to you and Griswold Lake!

Good evening denizens of NBW. Tonight I had one I received from @DIM in the Stouts and Barleywines BIF #2.
The pour was dark like old oil but in no way gritty. The head, such as it was, left scant lacing. It looks viscous.
The taste immediately brought to mind CBS on steroids. Had to look at the can again to verify there was no maple syrup in this.
More chocolate than coffee, no roast or hops presence, this is very near pastry territory. Sweet bourbon, sweet and mellow malts, even maple syrup flavor. Probably a mental addition on my part though.
The feel is viscous, this is a sipping beer With the depth of flavors it’s no surprise how much body there is.
OA, delicious. Not sure I could drink one every day but having one a week would work.
    Cheers all!

Pikes peak devils head red ale
    ...slightly murky dark amber appearance
...body as well as carbonation both hover around medium
...aroma is far from overwhelming but theres a nice mix of caramel, toasted grain, mildly roasted malt and what seems to me like a slight bit of apple.
...taste first comes off with mild sweetness but is quickly replaced with some earthy bitter hops. Caramel, toasted grains and some grainy toast follow.
...overall a really tasty enjoyable beer[IMG]
