What beer are you drinking now? #4523

1) Toppling Goliath Sosus (8.2% canned 1/22/25): A NEIPA from Iowa with Mosaic for flavors of tropical orange, blueberry, grape, tropical melon with a sweet nectar and berry flower flavor.
versus
2) Phase Three Linear Gradient (7.8% canned 2/17/25): A NEIPA from Chicago with Citra, Amarillo, & Moteuka for flavors of orange, tangelo, some smooth lime and mango. (Correctly matched the two blind)

Toppling Goliath vs. Phase Three IPA Battle. First is Toppling Goliath Sosus. All Mosaic here. Some dank berries, melon, and pine. Even evolving some cannabis type of flavors as it sits. Mosaic is sure a versatile and wonder of a hop that can do so many things.
Next is a fresh release from Phase Three, Linear Gradient. Citra and Amarillo give this an orange and tangelo flavor, but also some balance of the lime from Moteuka.
Sosus is good, but I hate to say it, seems sort of below standard for Toppling Goliath in 2025. It's an older beer so for it's time it is still a World-Class IPA. But I can tell it's from a decade ago. Phase Three is top of the charts in the NEIPA game, and possibly the best in Chicago. Amazing release here.
Winner: Phase Three Linear Gradient

Hello all. Indulging in my first beer as a Pooh-Bah (so I guess I’m an expert beeroholic now ) Alibi Ale Works usually puts out pretty solid beers, but this Golden Mocha Stout is on a whole ‘nother level. Absolutely fantastic.

This has replaced Bitburger as my top choice for a readily available, cheap import Pilsner. $9 for a 6 pack of 16 ouncers is hard to beat.

 

Sitting outdoors in defiance of the winds and 46 degree temperature. Don't have to worry about my Heady getting warm. Grilling in a bit. Cheers!
