    1) Steven's Point Midnight Black Lager (5.4%): A Euro Dark Lager from Wisconsin with flavors of smooth chocolate, dark cocoa, and roast. Smooth.
    versus
    2) Half Acre Ridge Tree (4.5%): A Czech Dark Lager from Chicago with flavors of dark malt, cocoa, light roast. Clean. (Correctly matched the two blind)

    Euro Dark Lager Battle. First is Steven's Point. Soime dark cocoa, chocolate, smooth roast. Very nice and smooth.
    Next is Half Acre. Ridge Tree is an excellent Czech Dark. Roasty, dark, and clean.
    First try at this Steven's Point Dark Lager. Very nicely done. Hard to beat Half Acre's Czech Dark though.
    Winner: Half Acre Ridge Tree

    Enjoyed a hike along the Blue Ridge Parkway earlier today which started at the Folk Art Center, the last open stretch of the BRP for 75 miles heading North(East) due to Hurricane Helene. It's amazing the amount of work the Forest Service did to open the trail.
    Anyway, this is not Hiking Advocate, onto today's first brew which is one from Sierra Nevada's private club, the Alpha Hop Society from the December Dessert release, a Blond Barleywine aged in Gin and Brandy barrels, Meyer Lemons, and Blueberries. The Barrel team called this a Blueberry Scone with lemon glaze. It took about a third of the 375ml bottle to acclimate the palate to this. But it was good and not as sweet given the amount of lemon zest bitterness and the gin botanicals. Fun beer to try. Listening to Lithium on Sirius.

    look: 3.75 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.25

    Clear, golden body; lively and coarse carbonation; thick head, white and sudsy. Sweet, grainy nose; bright, mineral-like scent. Rather bland flavor amped up with a brash bitterness. Medium-light body; fairly dry overall.

    I wasn't disappointed in this beer as I wasn't expecting much to begin with. The looks are the best aspect of the beer while the smell is so-so. The taste is just unbalanced with little enjoyable malt presence and a somewhat off-putting metallic bitterness.
