Fat Orange Cat Super Yellow Haze Teenage Kittens IPA. My limited experience with Fat Orange Cat has been fairly positive and this one aligns with that. More of a west coast twist to a hazy, which I welcome. Ripe clementine, ruby red grapefruit, lime zest, grapefruit peel, earthy dank, grass, some passionfruit, and pine resin. Undertones of doughy bread and slight caramel. Finishes dry with a solid bitterness. Well done.

    1) Warsteiner Dunkel (4.8%): A German Dunkel with flavors of dark German malt, cocoa, and spice. Mild roast.
    versus
    2) Ayinger Altbairisch Dunkel (5.0%): A German Dunkel with flavors of brown bread, earthy Munich malt, bread and yeast. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

German Dunkel Battle. First is Warsteiner. Dark German flavors, with some cocoa and a light roast. Clean. Excellent. (My rating: 4.16)
Next is Ayinger Dunkel. Strong cocoa, tobacco, dark German malt. A bit more complex earthy German flavors and tobacco notes. The best of the dunkel style I have had. (My rating: 4.34)

Back home on my day off. I thought I'd torture myself with a beer that had a best by date in 2016. Well....
    Saxo - Brasserie Caracole - Belgium - Belgian Blonde Ale - 8%

Wow! I would not recommend ageing it, but it worked. This was a local purchase on Sunday.

From a 750ml bottle. This beer has a best by date of 3062016. This version is 7.5% ABV

There was a nice pop when I removed the cork. This is a slightly murky golden pouring beer. There's some sediment in the beer. The head is white, 1 finger, and long lasting. There's no lacing on the glass.
The nose really smell sour and tart. Lots of green apple notes. I am not sure this is what the beer was supposed to be.
Well, the flavor isn't anything like the nose really. I get a malty grain character to the flavor. There's some floral elements to this beer which are interesting and good. Lots of yeast flavor in this beer.
The body is bubbly feeling and crisp. Smooth and a nice body to this beer.
This was a local purchase, and I'd never recommend aging a beer like this as long as this one was, but it did work. I am impressed that a beer that was best by in 2016 is still delicious.

    1) Toppling Goliath Fire, Skulls, & Money (7.8% canned 11/8/24): A NEIPA from Iowa with Citra, Mosaic, Galaxy, and Nelson for flavors of grapefruit and orange citrus flower, vinous white grape, gooseberry with some pine and berry to balance. Juicy, complex, and clean
    versus
    2) Phase Three Linear Gradient (7.8% canned 2/17/25): A NEIPA from Chicago with Citra, Amarillo, & Motueka for flavors of orange, tangelo, some smooth lime and mango. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

Toppling Goliath vs Phase Three IPA Battle. First is Toppling Goliath FS&M, the best Toppling Goliath IPA I know of. The perfect balance of Citra, Mosaic, and Nelson with the citrus, tropical berryflower and white grape. Still holding up well somehow.
Next is Phase Three Linear Linear Gradient. Similar, but with Amarillo and Motueka. Nice orange from the Citra and Amarillo with some tropical lime and mango from the Motueka. Digging these Motueka hops from Phase Three lately.
FS&M will always be my favorite, but some freshness bias here and Linear Gradient has more fresh flavors and objectively drinks better today.
    Winner: Phase Three Linear Gradient

Good afternoon BAdvocates. Drinking my first Revision Brewing Emerald Bay IPA. It’s an ok beer, but Revision wouldn’t know a WCIPA if they got hit in the face with one. Needs a lot more bitterness and the feel is rather thin.

    Revisited March 26th, 2025

Pours out a clear, very dark brown color; appears near black in the glass; thick, long-lasting, light tan head, densely sudsy. Excellent nose; light toffee and delicate grain char notes; hints of baker's chocolate. The flavor follows and enriches the smell; chocolate comes across more like milk chocolate; roasted grains with a slight char edge; fantastic bitterness. Heavy mouthfeel; rich and smooth; touch of alcohol warmth percolating beneath the velvety residual sugars.

Goat Patch heralds itself as the home of balanced brews, and their foreign export-style stout meets this statement. It is always a pleasure to find a quality non-adjunct stout.

Deep, dark brown with a thin yet sticky head. Deep sense if roasted dark grains and sweet chocolate. The taste follows the aroma; the chocolate more like a milk chocolate; excellent balance between grain sweetness and hop bitterness. Heavy body; smooth and silky; balanced finish between sweet and bitter.

An outstanding dark ale, robust, balanced with exquisite complexity.

...productive day: beer purchase, re-potted some tomato and chili pepper seedlings (going to give extra plants away to the neighbors), helped Mrs. BeerGoot out with a few things, made oven-baked hot wings for lunch, will likely finish a book this afternoon and press on with a new one...

Gnosis Solscape IPA (Citra/Galaxy). Went to my local beer store and was pleasantly surprised to see some Gnosis beers in the fridge. Navel orange flesh and peel, passionfruit, mango peel, yellow grapefruit, grass, and earthy pine. Soft, dry, firm bitterness, and super drinkable. This one never gets old.

Sorry about the photo, I thought I would be cool and hold the beer and container in one hand while taking a photo with my other.
I’m no @GreenBayBA - it’s harder than he makes it look. Almost spilled my beer!
Back in Colorado Springs for my MiL’s memorial (and to help my mom where possible) and asked a local at the nearby bottle shop which IPAs he was hot on (I asked for stout info and he said he was an IPA guy)
This was his first recommendation; RPM from Boneyard Brewing. Hmm, I’m pretty sure Colorado brewers have made some very good IPAs, so why one from the West Coast?
I didn’t actually ask him that, so I will assume he’s had all the locals and likes something new. Or maybe nobody here brews a very good example of a West Coast IPA.
    Nah, not buying it.
This is excellent for the day we have right now in the Springs, not as piney as I was expecting, but it is crisp and actually clean. A basic, solid example of the style.
I hope to cross paths with @beergoot while here, I actually have more than a day and a half this time.
    Cheers!
