I was really disappointed, this year's holiday sampler was a shell of what it used to be too.

Yeah, they really sold out. Remember MOMF: Michigan Only, Michigan Forever? That didn't last too long.

FWIW I found some Superfluid and it's really good.

The first year that beer was released I loved it. (I'm guessing that was in the early 2000s.) It was probably a couple years later that I bought it again. Not so good, but not bad! Shorts didn't date their bottles back then; do they now? Maybe I should give it another try.

You should. It is canned now with dates. Had some this weekend and I enjoyed it.

Here's a link to an article in The Detroit Free Press that says Brew Detroit has sold its assets to Livonia-based Benchmark Beverage Company. Brew Detroit's operations are going to be moved to Marshall. Why Marshall? Well that's part 2 of this story.

Roak Brewing, which owns Dark Horse Brewing, is located in Marshall, and Benchmark Beverage purchased that brewery in December. So Brew Detroit, Roak and Dark Horse, along with a flavored malt beverage company that operates in Pennsylvania, called Great America, and is owned by Brew Detroit, will all operate out of Marshall. I hope they have enough space in that Marshall facility!

Wild to see Dark Horse morph into whatever this is. They were one of the big three, and it all fell apart.

From a friend who knows a bit about the liquor giz.

Brew Detroit had a 100 bbl system. Yes, hope the find space for that and the fermenters.

Do you have any idea if Brew Detroit was brewing to capacity? If not, I suppose they could unload the equipment and brew their products using the DH system if there is capacity there. I don't know if Roak moved any of there equipment to Marshall, it's been 6-8 years since I toured the DH facility, but I think I recall some elbow room in that building. However, that may have been in the finished beer storage area.

I need to visit the regional threads more often, no idea on half this stuff.
I too prefer the Kentwood Horrocks, they usually have the best good selection.
Rishi’s is solid but more expensive, MegaBev is alright if you can time it right.
Total Wine is good for the 4 or 6 packs that you would buy anyway if they have them as they tend to price better than most.
Crushed Grape (Knapps Corner) is a wildcard, just never know what to expect there.
    Cheers!

Well Bummer! (kind of). I only visited the pub twice in the 15 years that they existed, so I can't say that I'll miss the place. But I'll miss the beers on my store shelves.

However, since the M-Live link is a paywall to me I was curious for more details and went looking and found it here: https://www.wolverinebeer.com/openletter It sounds to me like the brewery will continue to brew and distribute (maybe in conjunction with the new owner's products coming from the Wolverine brewing system), so I hope that doesn't change. Now I'll wait to see what the referenced secrets and what exactly will happen with the place, and maybe make a trip or two to AA to check it out.

Loaded Dice in Troy closed abruptly.

Also, does anyone know anything about the VooDoo Brewery that’s opening in Royal Oak? Just drove by and the name is up on the building. Where the old Blaze Pizza used to be I think? Or Leo’s. I can’t recall.

The new store is a bit larger, with a brighter look and a more open feel to it. The shelf stock seems unchanged.

Visiting some friends in Ann Arbor over the summer with the family, but will be spending a few days in Detroit to catch a Tigers game with the family and check out the city. Any great breweries that are kid friendly in the city? We'll have our 4 yr old and 2 yr old with us, but not sure if Detroit is family friendly on the beer scene (were in SD right now, and I've worked in the industry for 20 years, so the kids have come up around it).

Any good restaurants with a good tap list and cocktails around the stadium as well? Thanks!

Two places I like that have good beer and food and are family friendly downtown are:
Jolly Pumpkin- great sours and excellent food, particularly their pizzas
Elephant and Co.- self serve of Eastern Market beer and also has great pizza. Try the Crab Rangoon pizza, sounds weird but delicious.
